To want to say write this on my neighbours sign?

At the far end of the street is a detached property that has a small drive which they never seem to use. Instead they park their car and an enormous camper van actually on the road, the car is bad enough but the camper van is so dangerous. It's right on the corner, causes an obstruction to other road uses and actually makes it impossible for larger vehicles such as HGV's to pass, meaning they have to reverse down the street and turn around.

The camper van rarely gets used and is a fucking nuisance. A few months ago a fire engine had to turn around because it couldn't pass.

Yesterday I was walking past and was gobsmacked to see these people had placed a hand written sign on the gates to their never used drive saying " Access needed at all times, please keep clear". WIBU to go up there with a pen and add " and Emergency vehicles need access at all times, move your fucking camper van or if you don't use it sell the bloody thing. It's dangerous"?

Set fire to it then stand back and watch as the fire engine cannot get to it.

HecatePropylaea · 08/04/2014 12:53

Would the traffic police / wardens come and take a look at the position of the camper van and decide whether it is an obstruction? If they decide that it is, perhaps they would have a word with them? Particularly if a fire engine has already been unable to access the street. That's a HUGE problem!

If it's right on the corner it's probably illegally parked so I'd about getting a nice ticket for them to go with the sign.

CiderBomb · 08/04/2014 12:54

Hahah!

These people are not very approachable or neighbourly, we had a street party for the golden jubilee but they refused to come and chucked a strop because they had to move their car in advance.

YANBU

but ONLY if I can write on my neighbours sign.

We live in apartment buildings that surround our private car park. So, the first floor apartments have parking spaces in front of their front (or back whichever way you look at it) windows.

Everyone parks anywhere so no-one can have a particular space. It's always been like tis and everyone is fine. Except one woman who has moved in and stuck a note up in her window saying 'LEAVE THE SPACE IN FRONT OF THE WINDOW CLEAR, I RENT THIS FLAT PURELY FOR THIS SPACE. IT IS MINE'

it isn't hers. she isn't disabled. the car park is completely safe. the other spaces are a mere few steps away. We had to park there one day. I wonder what she thought!

LividofLondon · 08/04/2014 13:38

YANBU. Do it, do it! Grin It irritates me when people have off road parking yet park in the bloody road Confused Yes to contacting the police and council to see if they will get the neighbours to move their campervan somewhere where it's not causing an obstruction.

SocialNeedier · 08/04/2014 13:58

Write on the sign I reckon.

Then find a good vantage point so you can see them read it.

MoreSkyThanWeNeed · 08/04/2014 14:12

Why do people do this? The car thing I mean. Our old neighbours parked on the road despite having a big enough driveway.

Definitely write something and inform traffic warden/council/whoever the right person is!

Then update us!

RedFocus · 08/04/2014 14:29

Do it! Do it! Do it! Then take a photo of it and post it on here so we can all have a giggle. Wink

WooWooOwl · 08/04/2014 14:36

If it's parked illegally, call the non emergency police line and get them to deal with it.
