AIBU to not understand why people shop in Waitrose?

So I heard all the fuss about Waitrose and thought I'd give it a go.
I don't know why people go there. It is noisy and crowded with no doorman an no one to carry your bags. You can't get pink Marc de champagne truffles or Himalayan salt aged rack of beef, or any of the little delicacies you can pick up easily at Fortnum and Mason.

AIBU to ask how far your man has to drive your maid to get there and how much she spends from the Coutts grocery account?

I wouldn't inflict those oils on my peeps!

Pleasejustgo · 07/04/2014 19:42

Ohhhh but the Waitrose own brand truffles are to die for!

Wholefoods is best for Himalayan rock salt in case anyone is out. Why doesn't anyone ever talk about WF incidentally?

We have a local vintner which stocks all sorts of sparkly delights Wink

Pleasejustgo · 07/04/2014 19:45

Oh OH has just said they are called Monty Bojangles truffles. Ridiculous me for getting all confused.

TooOldForGlitter · 07/04/2014 19:46

Grin that is all.

MinesAPintOfTea · 07/04/2014 19:48

Because it shares a carpark with lidl and sometimes I just need something lidl doesn't sell.

wheresthelight · 07/04/2014 19:48

Haha brilliant!!

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 07/04/2014 19:48

I know it's AWFUL isn't it! Would it be too much trouble to put a champagne bar in!!!

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 07/04/2014 19:49

hickorychicken · 07/04/2014 19:49

They sell pieminster pies.

Pleasejustgo · 07/04/2014 19:50

Whatareyou
Hah hah. Amazing! WinkWink

Funnyfoot · 07/04/2014 19:50

I wouldn't know I fly in my Himalayan beef direct from source. My Champagne is delivered monthly from the vineyard as well I am such a good customer.

I think YABU to force your house girl to go to Waitrose! I hope you gave that poor child a wage rise for her stress and shame!

Lj8893 · 07/04/2014 19:51

I went in there today just to get the bojangles truffles Grin

Oh and there own brand nappies were a third off and so cheap!

picnicbasketcase · 07/04/2014 19:51

I just don't think a pack of four apples at £3.50 can possibly be edible. If they were any good, they would be far more than that.

BigArea · 07/04/2014 19:51

Fab thread OP for us commoners Grin

gamerchick · 07/04/2014 19:51

yanno i've never been in that supermarket.. there are 2 within distance and still that's 10-11 miles away.

Bit far for me.

Wherediparkmybroom · 07/04/2014 19:52

God no, she should be grateful I'm showing her a better way to live!

Odaat · 07/04/2014 19:53

I live near one and in there everyday - but only for milk/ bread / salad. I would have to remortgage my home to do an actual shop there. Ha.

thebody · 07/04/2014 19:53

Grin excellent op.

Mind you I think I did go to one they shared a car park once. Maybe tonbridge? The class of chav going into Waitrose made me wince.

Bardette · 07/04/2014 19:53

My dear, what on earth were you doing in a supermarket? Don't you have people to do that sort of thing for you?

Pleasejustgo · 07/04/2014 19:55

LJ it's the only box if truffles I can't finish in one go!! So many Grin

Own brand nappies?! Nah only pay attention to anything biodegradable. Oooh are they biodegradable an chlorine free then?? Wink

NearTheWindymill · 07/04/2014 19:57

Well when Waitrose put in a beautiful bog, with an attendant, real hand-towels, divine handwash and perfume to squirt it'll be fine. and they really must start stocking £600 dressing gowns and a Christmas Shop to die for - you know bone china plates decorated with holly for £100 each Grin; and crafted baubles.

Viviennemary · 07/04/2014 19:57

The one we usually go in has nice wide aisles and you can actually get round it without dodging great crates of stuff waiting to be put away. There aren't enormous queues at the checkout. But DH thinks it's expensive so if we go there we only get a few things. Then it's back to Asda or Morrisons or even that dire place Tesco's. Or sometimes Sainsburys. So never mind if you come out with a migraine and broken toes from trolleys you've saved a few pence.

Pipbin · 07/04/2014 19:57

Why are you all not just getting home delivery?

CaptainSinker · 07/04/2014 19:58

Well I thought I'd try it for larks, but not again in a hurry I can tell you. One of my housegirls is quite, well, streetwise (she went to a grammar school, no less!). For now I will leave such tasks to her. If only I could understand a word she says..
