AIBU to not understand why people shop in Waitrose?

So I heard all the fuss about Waitrose and thought I'd give it a go.
I don't know why people go there. It is noisy and crowded with no doorman an no one to carry your bags. You can't get pink Marc de champagne truffles or Himalayan salt aged rack of beef, or any of the little delicacies you can pick up easily at Fortnum and Mason.

AIBU to ask how far your man has to drive your maid to get there and how much she spends from the Coutts grocery account?

I find that there is no valet for the goat!

lessonsintightropes · 07/04/2014 20:01

We normally send the nanny's assistant - obviously we wouldn't traumatise the poor girl by sending her in herself, and she's far too busy giving baby Dahlia massages to waste time shopping.

It's quite good for basics such as the Duchy estate lamb, but I have to say the wine selection is quite below par - we get ours shipped direct from Daddy's vineyard.

I also wouldn't dream of eating the smoked salmon we only have it from the lake on the Highland estate.

Just out of interest OP have you tried WholeFoods when you're in your Kensington bolt-hole in town? It's rather convenient.

Those Monty Bojangles truffles are exquisite! I just had some of the butterscotch ones.

PinkyHasNoEars · 07/04/2014 20:02

Please tell us all about your distress at the checkout when you realised you would have to pack your own bags with chives and purple sprouting.

If you can do this without hyperbole that would be prevent further damage to my feelings.

CaptainSinker · 07/04/2014 20:07

Gosh! You are meant to pack your own bags? I walked out and waited for them to be brought out. This explains a lot.

Captain I think I love you.

Wherediparkmybroom · 07/04/2014 20:07

I attended once, far too distressing,I now send the charwoman, I find she betters herself even if the trout isn't truly fresh and I believe she is buying coffee on my time!

AbbeyBartlet · 07/04/2014 20:21

captain What an amazing person you are, employing a grammar school house girl - that is so charitable! don't you worry that your family might start acting lower class by being in contact with her? Grin

Wherediparkmybroom · 07/04/2014 20:26

Abbey, apparently you can't catch common!

AbbeyBartlet · 07/04/2014 20:28

Oh - in that case I might start letting the servants speak in my presence - I was a bit worried about catching it!

Wherediparkmybroom · 07/04/2014 20:30

Apparently it is harmless! When the DC start speKing with a Sussex drawl lay off!

CuntyBunty · 07/04/2014 20:33

Because I love posh pensioners rudely cutting across me and looking all around them as if they have a turd under their nose.
It's my nearest shop, basically and it also shares a car park with Lidl, MinesAPintOfTea Wink

Loggins · 07/04/2014 20:41

Waitrose are an awful cunt for the tins

Wherediparkmybroom · 07/04/2014 20:42

Apparently they deliver I'll ask my housekeeper!

CuntyBunty · 07/04/2014 21:45

I dropped my i-phone down the bog in Waitrose. It was ruined Sad.

AbbeyBartlet · 07/04/2014 22:45

Waitrose are an awful cunt for the tins

I am not totally sure what this means but I nearly pissed myself when I read it! Grin

confusedaboutparenting · 07/04/2014 23:11

this has to be a piss take of the aldi and lidl thread?
how stuck up people do annoy me

HesterShaw · 07/04/2014 23:14

YANBU. Waitrose is simply ghastly. I get my hampers flown in daily from Harvey Nicks.

Dappydongle · 07/04/2014 23:15

I sent my man to booth's instead.

lessonsintightropes · 07/04/2014 23:16

Booth's is superior to Waitrose, but still not quite as naice as WholeFoods or the Food Hall in Fortnums. Ghastly scrum in FM, Nanny refuses to return.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 07/04/2014 23:18

If I'd do pop into Waitrose, I take my Aldi bags with me. I wouldn't want people to think I shopped in Waitrose on purpose....

dontquotem3 · 07/04/2014 23:23

Humbugs.

fayrae · 07/04/2014 23:23

What do Waitrose sell that can't be bought elsewhere for cheaper? They sell caviar in Lidl FFS! Surely Waitrose is just about snobbery.

Dappydongle · 07/04/2014 23:26

Surely wholefoods is not a real shop? I went to the one in London and presumed it was just to amuse outoftowners and tourists?

wowfudge · 07/04/2014 23:30

Well I do like Waitrose, however one of my staff has informed me they have introduced a 'My Waitrose' card and are giving away coffees to all and sundry. Surely IANBU to believe it should be 'One's Waitrose' and should I be worried they will attract all sorts by giving away coffee?
