To get the rage at 3/4 length sleeve jumpers

Orangeanddemons · 07/04/2014 10:18

Why why? If I'm buying a jumper to keep me warm l want full length sleeves to cover my arms. Why don't my lower arms count or need keeping warm? Are they different in some way?

I reckon it's a cost thing.

I have a really nice cashmere jumper with sleeves that end just above the elbow.

I've had it about 10 years and I've worn it twice. It's too hot to wear when it's warm enough for short sleeves and too cold for otherwise.

You've reminded me about it. I might try putting a tight-fitting shirt underneath it otherwise I should admit defeat and give it away.

LearnerM0ther · 07/04/2014 12:03

I have many 3/4 length sleeve garments. Don't get cold wrists, like them... BUT -

They are a Royal pain in the ass when you put your coat / jacket on and they ride up, so you can't get your coat on properly, or move your arms, and you look like the Michelin Man!! To counteract this you must hold the end of the sleeve (thus pulling it down, exposing your shoulder and bra strap to all and sundry) before attempting to wear another sleeve.

THAT is why they should not be worn with coats. Because it is so fucking irritating!

HobbetInTheHeadlights · 07/04/2014 12:09

Don't see the point of them in that mac.

I could see a light weight summer jacket being okay with them - something to stop me getting burnt in summer or when it get's slightly chilly in evening - other wise not in coats and jackets.

OnlyLovers · 07/04/2014 12:11

I don't roll my sleeves up. Don't like the look. I'd much rather just have 3/4 sleeves.

I agree about the difficulties of putting a coat on over 3/4 sleeves though. I've been known to hook a sleeve down with a coat hanger. Grin

Orangeanddemons · 07/04/2014 12:12

Ooh, I love ergonomics, it's one of my fave things. Especially as no clothes ever fit anyone properly.

I think a 3/4 length sleeve with another layer poking out underneath makes the wearer look like Orphan Annie. Like their clothes don't fit them any more. Not an elegant look.

I like them because:

a. I can wash up and clean things in them.
b. I can wear a patterned shirt underneath them.
c. They work well under a cardigan without creating a bulky forearm.
d. I get pain in my neck and shoulders if anything remotely resembling cold approaches them. I want my neck and shoulders to be much more protected than my arms. A fitted polo neck jumper with three quarter length sleeves is ideal for this. Short jumpers are fine for the same reason.

BadRoly · 07/04/2014 12:15

I am long anyway so most sleeves end up 3/4 length. Really really irritates me.

I am on a permanent mission to find the perfect lightweight 100% cotton cardi (I know Blush) with proper long sleeves that are long on me.

40SomethingAndFabulouslyCluele · 07/04/2014 12:18

Most long sleeves are nearly 3/4 length on me . V annoying. But it does save the cuffs getting dipped in food/washing up water/engine gunk when changing oil. So I'd argue they do have a function.

WillieWaggledagger · 07/04/2014 12:24

lovely cosy layering

tbh i can't tell whether that's a long-sleeved top underneath or wristwarmers, but let's say it's a long-sleeved top because the look would be the same in this instance

fine if it doesn't suit your style / lifestyle, but i like it and it suits me

Yanbu.

I share your rage & see them as one of the works of the devil. Angry

Syrupent · 07/04/2014 12:53

Totally with you OP, I can't bear them! I am a cold hand sufferer and am always pulling my sleeves down over my hands. Also I have long arms (according to my DM 'like a chimpanzee'- thanks mum) so they are even shorter on me. They look OK on though, providing they are worn over a short sleeved top, so only for summer wear IMO.

bigbadbarry · 07/04/2014 12:55

Agree with them being BAD on coats, what is that all about.

HannerHet · 07/04/2014 13:22

Yabu
I love them, and look out for them especially (another sleeve pusher upper here!)

MrsKoala · 07/04/2014 13:32

I agree OP they are my pet hate along with sleeveless polo necks Confused who the fuck it cold enough for a polo neck but hot enough for completely bare arms.

I need all of me to have the same coverage otherwise i feel odd. Also i am a freakish giant so have very long limbs and broad shoulders. If things don't fit 'properly' then i look like even more of a gallumping frankenstein. One ex used to joke i looked like the hulk post rage in 3/4 length tops. If anything i look better in too long a sleeve which come down over my hands slightly to balance me out. I also used to have very thick dark hair on my forearms and 3/4 really drew attention to it - i used to get loads of comments (i had them lasered off because of it).

sashh · 07/04/2014 14:26

If you are a Dr you can wear them at work to keep warm and still comply with the rules about infection control.

If you do anything practical such as cooking, art, sewing you can keep warm without your cuffs getting in the way.

You can show off your arms or fancy sleeves.

You can show off your expensive watch or bracelet.

You can wear them when it's too warm for long sleeves but not cold enough for bare arms.

Orangeanddemons · 07/04/2014 14:27

I just show off my goose pimples.

I do sewing every day. I don't think long sleeves have ever got in the way

YANBU. Three quarter length sleeves on jumpers are stupid. And don't get me started on the insanity of coats and jackets with three quarter length sleeves. Grrrrr.

Lovecat · 07/04/2014 15:05

I love them. My wrists are probably the thinnest part of my body so they make me look all elegant and svelte and shit. :o

Sandancer · 07/04/2014 15:16

I'm glad I've seen this, I thought it was just me being a fuss pot. I HATE 3/4 sleeves. I've picked up so many nice jumpers that I've put straight back on the rail after seeing the sleeve length.
Putting on a coat is a chore, just as learnermother described and I have a constant need to pull the sleeve down. Irritating.

MrsKoala · 07/04/2014 15:23

I don't agree Lovecat - not that you don't look svelte and elegant and shit, everyone knows that anyway - but i think if someone is a bit, umm, chunkier (you are NOT of course) i think it highlights how tiny their wrists/frame is and how out of proportion their body is compared to it.

YANBU-HATE them. Currently wearing a 3/4 sleeve boat neck jersey dress under a long sleeved (proper sleeved) cardi and it feels awful. I want to reach inside the cardi cuffs and pull down the dress sleeves ALL THE TIME. I don't know why I got this dress. Maybe because it is otherwise very comfy and doesn't crease. Surely you can just roll your cuffs up if you need to (I hardly ever do)? So, why not have the option to be properly warm as well? Also agree about the problem with the coats. Angry

But I also do not get gilets, etc. I am either warm or cold in my WHOLE body. I don't want one bit to boil and another one to freeze.. I want it all to be equally comfy.

Legologgo · 07/04/2014 16:58

LOVE THEM

Orangeanddemons · 07/04/2014 17:07

Oh, gilets...just do not get them at all
