I wasn't there so don't know if photographers have picked out the bad pics, but looking at the litter it looks like a horrible day out. Absolutely horrible. Why do some people insist on getting drunk like this?

And I have photos taken of me on a night out when I have had one small glass of wine, and from my expression I have looked very drunk. Remember that is what these photographers want.

Although tbh I really don't care if some women get a bit drunk. They are not throwing up or fighting. So who cares? They are having a good time which is all that matters.

gordyslovesheep · 06/04/2014 19:58

Chester can be as rough as a dog arse though Grin

Odaat · 06/04/2014 20:01

If this was a see of blokes, no fucker would bat an eyelid.

dementedma · 06/04/2014 20:03

No.40 of the mirror photos looks fabulous!

Latraviata · 06/04/2014 20:04

Thats bollocks about not judging the men-I thought the men in the "wacky" suits looked like huge twats. I see many men in clothes that I think are minging tbh.

Yes agree chester can be a bit dodgy-I blame the proximity to liverpoolWink

tznett · 06/04/2014 20:04

Seriously bottleofbeer? You think it's OK to drop litter because there's no bin and someone's paid to pick it up? Shock

There should be no need for anyone to have to pick up litter. You take your litter home, don't you? To stop everyone having to wade through rubbish and to make the races, London and everywhere else a more pleasant place to be.

bottleofbeer · 06/04/2014 20:14

At a big, all day event? No, you're right. They should all have handy binliners in their clutch bags and cart their rubbish around all day.

All the horrible woman and city bashing on here and people are arsed about litter which is picked up by people paid to do it, because it's expected when there are no bins for security purposes? Mern.

bakingaddict · 06/04/2014 20:36

All festivals and events have problems with litter. Easiest solution is to do a mass clear up at the end

I think nowadays all young women crave uniformity of looks hence big breasts orange tans and big hair. It is a look in Liverpool Newcastle and a lot of Northern towns but you see it equally in Essex and other southern commuter towns. Wouldnt say its a look unique to Liverpool and I say that as a exiled scouser down south for over a decade

bottleofbeer · 06/04/2014 20:43

Liverpool is one of the last acceptable stereotypes though isn't it? There's a weekly drunk thread on here, wine and gin advised as the way forward with the stress of kids. But when a load of scousers get together and drink it morphs into something terribly uncouth and chavtastic. Towie, made in Chelsea anybody? It's not endemic to Liverpool. It's just the latest fad. A bit like shoulder pads in the 80's.

Most of us laugh along and see the funny side of said stereotypes but there's a line that only Scousers can cross Grin

You probably chat to them day after day on here, in complete ignorance that the perfectly normal poster you're talking to is a mass of orange and eyebrows behind the screen.

dawntigga · 06/04/2014 20:44

Exactly how have they ruined anyone else's day? Wearing flip flops ruins your day? I'd stay out of Liverpool if I was you, one look at somebody going to the shops in pj's and you'll be clutching your pearls.

Alas, this is just how "Ladies" days are. Go to Chester and you will see exactly the same thing. There may be some who look wonderful (i think I might have seen some once.) But most of the ladies are drunken, badly dressed, foul mouthed females. I tour guide at one of the local areas, and last year spoke to several tourists who had turned up whilst races where on. Said they'd never come to Chester again. It's not a minority - it's the majority. Someone earlier mentioned A&E in Lpool - same in Chester, staff dread it. And the litter - it's everwhere - all over the racecourse, in the streets, in peoples gardens. And don't forget the pools of vomit. Classy

I know the couple kissing Grin

piscivorous · 06/04/2014 22:48

I have been to Aintree several times and can assure you that it is fabulous. It is an exuberant, enjoyable, champagne-fuelled day out. The litter is due to the fact that all the "glasses" are disposable and there are no bins for security reasons and it is cleared up perfectly before the next day's event.

Most of the ladies look beautiful, very glam in that slightly overdressed, blingy way that Liverpool is famous for. These papers take the worst pictures they can find and use them to pander to the voyeuristic, sneery snobbery of their readers. Those of you that have never been there but believe this bile should be ashamed.

Look at this from the Liverpool Echo There are some beautiful women there and the other papers are just pandering to the snobbery of other parts of the country towards scousers.

Financeprincess · 06/04/2014 23:26

Piscivorous and Bottleofbeer, I admire your valiant and repeated attempts to convey the message that THERE ARE NO BINS AT AINTREE RACECOURSE but I fear that you are casting your pearls before swine. Somebody will still want to be horrified by the litter, which of course only ever exists on racecourses in Liverpool.

HotelFromage · 06/04/2014 23:47
  1. Litter. RayPurchase Seriously??? You assume that there is a 'problem with litter in Liverpool' because of some pictures of plastic glasses on the floor at one of the major sporting events in the World, which happens to be at a racecourse in Aintree, (which is in Sefton, not Liverpool, by the way).

The litter is picked up continuously during the day. It is a result of using plastic glasses for safety reasons. No different from any other major sporting event / gig with 150,000 attendees over three days.

Notting Hill carnival had an entire tv programme devoted to the litter picking which goes on afterwards but I didn't notice any local-bashing going on here after that programme was screened.

  1. Chav-bashing. If you think what is featured in the Daily Mail has any bearing on reality then you are being fooled. You can go into any town centre anywhere in the country and see 'sights', drunkenness, etc. The reality at the Aintree Festival is somewhat different. There is a mixture of dress codes, from the horsey tweedy brigade, to the obviously wealthy non-horsey lot, to the jeans wearers in the Steeplechase enclosure and everything in between. For most people it is a really big day out, something to be crossed off on a bucket list, or a family tradition. If anyone is curious as to what it is really like, come and see for yourself, rather than relying on the Daily Mail.
RayPurchase · 07/04/2014 09:12

Hotel Fromage No, I was being facetious.

RayPurchase · 07/04/2014 09:25

Ah, the post I was responding to has been deleted.

Abra1d · 07/04/2014 09:27

Oh, don't worry, I have seen exactly the same amount of litter elsewhere in the British Isles, so certainly no anti-Liverpudlian feeling from me on that count.

I just find it depressing because I think the attitude that 'someone else will sort it out' does spread from events elsewhere. I spend ages clearing rubbish from our lane each week and I wonder whether it's because of that reason--people have got into the mindset from festivals and other events?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 07/04/2014 10:36

yoni

I can't believe that you think it's acceptable to post things like that.

Why on earth should someone wear a bra just because you think they should

BumPotato · 07/04/2014 11:02

Weren't they cold?

And where can you buy Crabbie's in tins (other than Aintree obv)?

Latraviata · 07/04/2014 11:05

Sorry but I am really not seeing anything different in the Liverpool paper than the daily mail etc? Still seeing stripper heels, tangoed bodies and skirts that, let's be honest, are of a length that are flattering to very few people. Am I missing something? I find it quite depressing that this is the "uniform" women aspire to.

bottleofbeer · 07/04/2014 17:03

Oh well. They'll just have to live with the fact you think they look awful. As long as they felt like a million dollars. You get back to your Laura Ashley catalogue Grin

maleview70 · 07/04/2014 17:15

I've been a couple of times on ladies day and 97-98% are well dressed, well mannered, have fun without being a pain and can handle their drink. In Liverpool ladies day at Aintree is one of the events of the year.

As with everywhere it's the 2-3% that let the side down.

Ledkr · 07/04/2014 17:21

We look like that every year at Cheltenham races, it's marvelous! Grin
