bath their children every day!

Following on from the thread about a poster not changing her children into pyjamas, I was surprised reading the responses how many people say they only bath their kids a couple of times a week.

I bath mine every night before bed and always have done, bar illness or something catastrophic happening in my day. On the rare occasion they have had to miss their bath, I have done a quick wipe down with a flannel, but they never seem clean after it. My kids seem to get filthy during the day, mud/food etc.

I know those kids who have excema cannot always have a bath everyday, but for anyone else it just seems like pure laziness to me.

Like I said, not everybody has the same nose. Please, don't get offended if your cleanliness standards are lower - as long as you are happy, a little dirt hasn't killed anyone. On the opposite - too much cleanliness is a predisposition for allergies, but I just can't help my nose and having all mod cons of our time it seems like a sin not using them ;) Au revoir, ladies :)

treaclesoda · 07/04/2014 12:55

this is hilarious. A foul stench is what you get when someone doesn't wash for days at a time and never changes their clothes.

A child who gets washed everyday, just not necessarily by way of full bodily immersion in a bath, does not give off a foul stench.

AndyWarholsBanana · 07/04/2014 12:55

I polish mine after all 3 of their daily baths. They come up a treat.

hazeyjane · 07/04/2014 13:01

You really need to get some Brasso on them, then buff to a shine.

treaclesoda · 07/04/2014 13:02

Just three baths a day Andy? I bet they stink, you just can't smell it.

I had my kids sprayed with disinfectant and then laminated in plastic. I just keep them in my living room, which is sealed and pumped full of purified air. We just wave to them through the windows.

If you're happy with less than that for your kids, that's fine.

hazeyjane · 07/04/2014 13:02

A child who gets washed everyday......does not give off a foul stench.

Actually if you ever meet ds i think you would change your mind.

PeggaPip · 07/04/2014 13:41

I just don't get why you would put an unclean body into clean pyjamas and a clean bed?

treaclesoda · 07/04/2014 13:48

but hardly anyone has said they don't wash their kids at night Confused

BeCool · 07/04/2014 13:56

This wonderful "freshly washed" smell so many are yearning for here - you do realise it's just the smell of soap?

hoppingmad · 07/04/2014 13:59

This thread is hilarious Grin

I don't feel the need to bath mine daily which makes me a bad parent, I am denying my children, have lower standards and live in filth & squalor but can't smell it because I've become immune to the whiff however I'm not a planet killing monster so not all doom & gloom Grin

Now back to the real world where no one gives a crap about how often I bath my dc's

slithytove · 07/04/2014 13:59

DS was Teflon coated for his first birthday. Nothing sticks to him, not even dirt. A quick hose down does the job.

BeCool · 07/04/2014 14:05

are you still SHOCKED OP? Really really shocked?

I hope that this thread has shown you that, rather than laziness, it's quite perfectly normal NOT to bath your kids every day.

Ragwort · 07/04/2014 14:07

PeggaPip - are you one of those parents who puts their children into clean (ie: newly washed) pyjamas and bedlinen every day ? Hmm

My DS usually showers or bathes most days, he is 13 and it is probably a way of prolonging bedtime Grin - I did always give him a bath most nights when he was younger, just because it was something to do rather than screen time more than because he needed it.

IdkickJilliansAss · 07/04/2014 14:27

It's not going to work on me Val sorry, try scouting another board for someone insecure

PeggaPip · 07/04/2014 15:14

Ragwort- clean pyjamas, of course! Bed linen washed weekly. I guess everyone has different standards of cleanliness. I shower every day and so do my DC's. It's never occurred to me not to, it's just part of our daily routine, it's how I was brought up and how my children will be brought up.

NEARLY 600 POSTS AND 3 DAYS ON BATHTIME ROUTINES!!!!

slithytove · 07/04/2014 15:43

I just can't imagine going through 4 sets of pjs a day for a family with 2 kids. Surely that's a full wash so an extra seven a week?

squoosh · 07/04/2014 15:45

New pyjamas every night? You need a hobby!

FunLovinBunster · 07/04/2014 15:49

2 baths a day here for DD. Morning one is more of a cats lick and a promise, evening one is a good scrub.
DD has friends who, judging by the smell they leave in our house (!!) don't bath every day. It is rank. Kids get BO too. To all those posters with none SN or eczema kids who don't have a daily bath/shower, their friends will notice the smell and may be unkind enough to comment..

BeCool · 07/04/2014 15:53

I guess everyone has different standards of cleanliness
You see you say that Peppa but I don't see it at all as different standards of cleanliness. I see it as different priorities.

There is nothing unclean about wearing PJ's for more than one night (presuming they don't have breakfast down the front of them). Nothing at all.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to spend time doing any more washing that is necessary. There are so many other ways I prefer to spend my time. So my DC will wear bedclothes for several nights if possible.

Plus I like to live life treading as softly as I can on the planet. Short washes, green clothes wash and as few loads as possible.

treaclesoda · 07/04/2014 15:58

well that's funny, because my DD doesn't have a bath every day and none of her friends have commented on how awful she smells.

That's because she is not unclean because SHE WASHES. Sorry to shout, but feels like groundhog day on this thread. Nearly everyone has said that their kids wash, just not necessarily in a full depth bath. But apparently no one has read that bit, because we keep hearing about how dirty they are.

I keep coming back to this thread because apparently I like banging my head against a brick wall. Grin

FunLovinBunster · 07/04/2014 15:59

My washing machine stinks. All these short crappy cool laundry programmes don't kill the bacteria or wash out stains as well as a good old 50 or 60 degree nuke wash. I don't give a shit about the planet.

You may bath your kids every day today, and wash clean clothes out of habit

but when your children grow up they may not have enough clean water to drink

stop being so short sighted and selfish

treaclesoda · 07/04/2014 16:00

and we're not filthy, before someone accuses us of being. DS baths almost every day, because he gets dirtier than DD. I shower quickly every day because I exercise lot. DH showers every day because he sweats a lot and needs to. DD however does not need to. So she doesn't.
