God I struggle with five. I have about one bannana every other week and thats it. I havent had a vegtable since about 2003. If anyone will actaully do this, please tell me how. It seems impossible.

It seems like loads. I'm not mad about fruit and if it wasn't for the dcs I probably wouldn't buy it. I eat it sometimes because I think I should. Yesterday I made a curry with

1 onion
1 cauliflower
1/2 bag spinach
1 tin tomatoes
I tin chickpeas

So if I ate it all then I might be ok-ish, but i ate one portion and put the other 6 in the freezer.

Today I had stir fry with broccoli, edamame beans, onion, spinach, garlic but nowhere near a portion each. I'd be lucky if there was 2 portions overall.

I think you can if you want

TamsinGreig- I could have eaten that whole curry (maybe not a whole cauliflower, but pretty sure the rest!) it would have been two portions perhaps but not 7!! Am I the world's biggest pig?!

I just made a frittata with mushrooms (at least 80g), a whole red onion, 7 cherry toms, small baked potato from yesterday and some cheese. With a glass of OJ that's 4 out of 7. Not bad for minimal thought and effort. Raisins in breakfast this morning plus lots of cucumber and peppers at lunch. Shame I can't get the kids to eat so well.

Definitely more than 2 portions. i froze it in plastic takeaway containers, half rice, half curry. It was quite a lot. It's possible there was 2 onions.

I have been doing it for a while now. More to fill myself up on lower calorie foods in an attempt to keep my weight stable than any other reason, but the affect is the same. I reckon I usually achieve 7 portions a day.

Eg yesterday I had a banana on cereal for breakfast, plus a glass of fruit juice (2 portions). Lunch was some leftover chicken from the night before with an avocado, large tomato, chunk of cucumber and some lettuce leaves (I calculated that must be roughly 3 portions). Dinner provided 2 more: red cabbage with my sausages and mash, and fruit salad for pudding. 7 in total.

Today: banana and fruit juice again for breakfast. I always have some fruit on my cereal and a glass of fruit juice so that is 2 portions right at the start of the day. Lunch today was homemade tomato and red pepper soup, large bowl. I reckon, knowing how many peppers and tomatoes went into the soup and what proportion of the overall I had today that that is another 2 portions. Dinner: a portion of peas, a portion of sweetcorn, rhubarb crumble for pudding. Total: 7.

I only eat 3 meals a day. No snacks. As few carbs as I can get away with without being faddy.

I already have between 6 and 8 portions each day, I reckon. And we are skint.

It's not expensive to eat well. We never, for example, buy blueberries and the like as we can't afford them. But I live off carrots, sweet potato, broccoli, pears, satsumas etc.

Also, frozen berries are often cheap but I'm unsure as to whether they "count."

It depends on the quantities - how many kilos does it amount to? I do mine over a week and double up on quantities, so 2 portions of the same veg instead of 2. At weekends there's maybe a feast on whatever we have got in.
