to want to buy normal fruit yoghurt that isn't reduced fat or with random bacteria in it?

Seriously! In a whole supermarket aisle of yoghurt and yoghurt adjacent products, every single fecking item was either activia or low fat.

I don't want activia! I don't want low fat (high sugar).

I just want yoghurt!

AIBU?

No, it pisses me right off. We stopped at a motorway service station and all the yogurts there, usually in the 'healthy breakfast choices', were low fat. I wanted one for my toddler - he needs fat godammit! I don't understand the obsession with everything being low fat.

jan2014 · 02/04/2014 16:10

i have looked for these for my toddler too (and me since i hate the taste of sweeteners in yoghurts) and there is nothing unless its baby yoghurts ridiculously over priced!!

schoolclosed · 02/04/2014 16:12

Stapleton Strawberry with Clotted Cream is what you want. From Sainsbury's or Waitrose. It's amazing. And the Gooseberry one is the best yoghurt in the world, bar none.

(And for those who do like low-fat, their low fat raspberry is also great - although not as great as the gooseberry.)

MsMarvel · 02/04/2014 16:12

Wasn't there a thread about exactly this the other day?? Or was I imagining it?

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 02/04/2014 16:25

Aldi do a hazelnut yoghurt that tastes exactly like the Ski one did. I love it. Do they still do Ski yogurts? Can't recall seeing them if I'm honest.

TheBigBumTheory · 02/04/2014 16:31

All yoghurt has bacteria in it, that is what it is: milk cultured with bacteria. Basics yoghurt has real live bacteria in it.

HopelessDei · 02/04/2014 16:32

Oh god, I hear ya! Fat-free yogurt - so wrong.

puntasticusername · 02/04/2014 16:33

Aldi's Specially Selected yogurts (including the hazelnut one mentioned above) are fantastic. They may not meet your criterion of "just yogurt" because they also have a shit load of cream in Grin but they do taste great. My favourite is the lemon curd one.

TheBigBumTheory · 02/04/2014 16:33

What's wrong with plain Greek yoghurt?

Andanotherthing123 · 02/04/2014 16:34

Yanbu - and the one's which are just yoghurt, without fat removed or sweetners are astronomically expensive. Pisses me right off.

MinesAPintOfTea · 02/04/2014 16:34

Greek yoghurt with frozen berries, chopped fruit or a dollop of jam or honey is what you need. I don't get flavoured yoghurts these days and can't do a whole morning if i've had low fat yoghurt for breakfast.

CountessOfRule · 02/04/2014 16:35

Yes but it doesn't have wanky proprietary bacteria in it.

I buy full-fat Greek and add tinned or fresh fruit. I'm low-sugaring so adding honey or jam is off the agenda.

MrsGoslingWannabe · 02/04/2014 16:35

Yeo Valley raspberry yogurt is my absolute fave. It tastes how yogurt did when I was little. Full-fat & creamy. Its got the bifidus bacteria etc but that's all good and normal.

stinkingbishop · 02/04/2014 16:40

I'm with you! I buy the toddlers' ones if they're BOGOF but otherwise it's practically impossible! Tesco are doing BOGOF on the large pots of Yeo Valley (normal fruit, normal fat, no added prebiotics/pro-retinol/pantene pro-v/mach 3 crap).

Have tried just stirring my own fruit into natural/greek yoghurt but noses were turned up...

DorothyGherkins · 02/04/2014 16:42

Make your own plain yog -its breathtakingly simple.

HesterShaw · 02/04/2014 16:42

YADNBU. The only normal fat yoghurt you can get is natural. You just have to put your own fruit in.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 02/04/2014 16:44

Yes stinking. My kids will not entertain that at all. In fact they only eat that type of yogurt with chilli powder stirred in to it as an accompaniment to one of dh's kofta or keema curries.

ShatnersBassoon · 02/04/2014 16:44

Longley Farm make proper, nothing modern about it yogurt. I can only get it in Morrisons, in individual pots.

Twighlightsparkle · 02/04/2014 16:45

Ski is what you want.

The first yogurt I ever remember.

I used to also love munch bunch banana!

JohnFarleysRuskin · 02/04/2014 16:47

I agree. The amount of low fat yoghurt there is is madness.

Is nobody listening to all the information coming out about low fat stuff?

TheBigBumTheory · 02/04/2014 16:47

I make my own, it's cheap and easy.

puffylovett · 02/04/2014 16:49

Why would you not want friendly bacteria?

It's good for you. It's also how yoghurt is made

mrsminiverscharlady · 02/04/2014 16:50

Do you all drink full fat milk then? Because low-fat yogurt is just made with low fat (ie skimmed) milk. I don't quite understand the angst over it, full fat dairy isn't particularly good for adults.

CountessOfRule · 02/04/2014 16:52

Full-fat milk is low fat anyway. And [citation needed] re full fat being bad for adults.

Low-fat yogurt has to have other things added to it (starches and sugar, typically) to give the right texture. The extra few % fat do that without fucking about.
