I think I am way too generous. We've had the same girl over the last few years. She was 17 when she started, now 20.

Just curious ...

10 Euro / hour - South of Ireland. Babysitter lives next door.

quirrelquarrel · 02/04/2014 12:24

My point was just that minimum wage is always working for very little.

But they could be earning more in bar work or having an evening off, you're paying for someone's time afterall.

edwinbear · 02/04/2014 12:26

Also 10 an hour plus cab home. The babysitter usually doubles the cost of the night out.

I pay DS's CM £8.50 an hour if she babysits. Sometimes I get one of my ex pupils to come and babysit if I'm out in the evening and I think it's unlikely that DS will wake up. I pay her £20 for 3 hours and leave loads of biscuits.

pinkdelight · 02/04/2014 12:55

Snap teacher123! I also pay £8.50 ph to DS's CM if she babysits. Would love to find someone similar to your ex pupils though and only pay £20.

fukkigucci · 02/04/2014 13:29

I pay 5 an hour to my teenage babysitter. I always add on a bit extra though, I want her to want to babysit.
2 year old is always in bed, 6 year old stays up for about half an hour after she comes. Dd loves her, they usually paint each other's nails!

puthyjip43 · 02/04/2014 13:34

$30 an hour (think it's about 20 UK pounds)
.. But I'm in Australia and everything is bloody expensive!!

Daiso · 02/04/2014 13:43

I get between £8.50 and £10 per hour and have own transport. I am a qualified and experienced nanny though and parents are happy to pay.

blahblahblah2014 · 02/04/2014 13:52

Just adding that my prevously quoted £5/hour is in central London

BrianTheMole · 02/04/2014 13:52

£8 per hour.

ScrambledSmegs · 02/04/2014 14:00

Last babysitter was £10/hr. London. Hang on to that babysitter, blahblahblah, you've got a bargain!

ShimmeringInTheSun · 02/04/2014 17:11

Crikey!

I used to babysit in the 70's and received the princely sum of 50p for the whole evening. They never put the heating on, and I had to take my own drink snacks.
At Christmas though I was paid a bonus........I was given a whole £1 !

I really appreciated it too Smile

bunnybing · 02/04/2014 18:18

Shimmering - I got £4 for an evening back in the 80s - they threw in the snacks though! This was quite a long evening - they'd regularly come back at 1am.

I always considered it easy money - much easier than a paper round for example.

UniS · 02/04/2014 21:19

I pay 15 quid for an evening if they are reading a story, turning out the light and then sitting till 11ish. 10 quid if I just need them to sit for a couple of hours after the child is in bed so a 7.45 - 10 sort of thing.
