Not aibu need traffic. I was up feeding baby when i could hear a shed door banging. Looked outside window and next doors got someone walking around their garden with a torch. They have an outhouse/jucuzzi ect so expensive stuff. I forget lights on therefor i can be seen lookig out. Pretty sure torch was directed at my window which has scared me. Not sure whether to call 101 or not ?? What would you do??

Jeez I'm really shocked that the op didn't call the police. That's actually really awful. Sad

hashtagwhatever · 30/03/2014 11:03

Hope the neighbours don't have the same thinking next time when it's your house.

ICanSeeTheSun · 30/03/2014 11:10

It's ok to be scared to phone the police.

Op has a baby and don't want to be targeted if the police catch this person.

I think if OP wasn't seen then she would have phoned the police.

nickymanchester · 30/03/2014 11:42

You have heard of smartphones haven't you? I'm posting from one right now.

Well good for you boasting about it. It's only a minority of people that have a smart phone

KickassCoalition · 30/03/2014 12:02

Thanks nicky manchester, I was having a really shit day until I read that Grin

OwlCapone · 30/03/2014 13:07

Would you like some vinegar to go with that chip on your shoulder?

OwlCapone · 30/03/2014 13:08

Anyway, my point was that the OP may well not have had to "fire up the laptop" and it is entirely possible to post almost instantly.

OwlCapone · 30/03/2014 13:11

Still, I find it hugely amusing that you think I was boasting. It's hardly a boast to have a smartphone.

Slainte · 30/03/2014 13:11

Use the brain you were born with FFS.

^^ This!

Actually, more people in the world own a smartphone than own a PC. 22% of the global population have a smartphone and 20% have a PC. That is global population so one could assume that, considering we are not a third world country, the percentage in the UK is far higher and the percentage on MN probably higher still.

AgentProvocateur · 30/03/2014 13:20

*It's ok to be scared to phone the police.

Fuck me!! I can't believe this attitude. Does having a baby mean that you have no moral responsibility? Would it be ok not to phone the police if you saw someone being attacked? I hope I never come across anyone as pathetic in real life if I ever need help.

Floggingmolly · 30/03/2014 13:37

The fact remains, Owl, that op posted to ask should she call the police; and despite a universal cry of "of course you should, why haven't you done so already?", decided not to Hmm
It hardly matters what technology was available to her, she chose not to bloody well use it.

HuskyBlueEyes · 30/03/2014 20:44

Well bit shocked by responses.
I am in a house on my own with a three week old and v frightened. I meant should I call 999 or 101 I was rushing didnt come across v clear. I called 101 in the end and my neighbor was over today telling me to stop being so suspicious and in futute ignore as.he finishes work at 4am and goes to collect 'stuff' from his cabin before bed. I was too worried to call 999 incase it was wasting policetime. Thanks a lot MN for making me feel like shit for feeling vunerable.

I was seen! It scared me I didnt want trouble if the person wasnt caught.

OP posts:
Nanny0gg · 30/03/2014 20:48

I hope he thanked you anyway!

Otherwise, yes ignore, and if it really is a break-in one day it'll be his own fault!

FastWindow · 30/03/2014 20:53

jammygem · 30/03/2014 21:30

Glad you did call 101 OP. Your neighbour sounds like an arse though, I hope he at least thanked you for being concerned!

MiscellaneousAssortment · 30/03/2014 21:45

Everyone leaping in without full story is usual but can feel quite bruising if it gets harsh. Flowers

You have very little baby - three weeks old, lovely and I hope you are doing ok. Hormones and that massive protective instinct kick in and can get a bit confusing to work out what's the right reaction on occasion.

Sounds like you have a rubbish neighbour. Ignore him and do what's best for you and your safety, which in this case was dialling 101.

HuskyBlueEyes · 30/03/2014 22:05

I recieved no thanks.he was thoroughly put out that id called and had him disturbed :(

RubyGoat · 30/03/2014 22:11

Your neighbour sounds like an arse. An ungrateful arse. I'm certain that if it had been an intruder he would have been rather more polite.

LEMmingaround · 30/03/2014 22:16

You're nrighbour was v rude. Lets hope karma kicks his arse

mygrandchildrenrock · 30/03/2014 22:25

My neighbour once saw my trailer tent being stolen at 3 am. She was on the way to the loo and saw it being driven away without lights on. She thought it was us being considerate because it was the middle of the night!
We never did get it back.

KeatsiePie · 30/03/2014 23:11

Wow. He should have thanked you and he really shouldn't have acted like you were being overly suspicious. Sorry he was so rude. Glad you called but I don't think it's weird to feel vulnerable (especially with a new baby) or stressed about calling.

OurMiracle1106 · 30/03/2014 23:21

I would rather call the police and find neighbors was in the garden and had problems with their electric than feel responsible for them losing their possessions.

I would also rather get a knock on the door from police and be glad to know my neighbor has my back than they left it to happen. Also makes you look guilty of something if they are broken into. The light going off means nothing really tbh

CurlyhairedAssassin · 30/03/2014 23:35

OP, are you sure he's coming back from work at that time of night? I mean, surely he would be putting stuff BACK in his cabin not taking it out? Maybe he's the one you should be suspicious of? Strange reaction he had. Anyone would think he has something to hide! Anyone want to take any guesses?

Meth lab? Hoard of ladies' clothes for when he gets the transvestite urge? Is he a secret lemonade drinker?
