Not aibu need traffic. I was up feeding baby when i could hear a shed door banging. Looked outside window and next doors got someone walking around their garden with a torch. They have an outhouse/jucuzzi ect so expensive stuff. I forget lights on therefor i can be seen lookig out. Pretty sure torch was directed at my window which has scared me. Not sure whether to call 101 or not ?? What would you do??

Why did you post here? Confused

FunkyBoldRibena · 30/03/2014 09:22

Has it come to this when people are unable to make a decision about calling the police when someone is in next door's garden with a torch - without having to ask the internet and then...ignoring all the advice.

Use the brain you were born with FFS.

HectorVector · 30/03/2014 09:23

How ridiculous. You posted here when you know you Gould be calling 999. You're then told to call 999 and you won't. Meanwhile burglars might be in your neighbours house. I hope your neighbours aren't as silly as you.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 30/03/2014 09:23

Why were you scared to phone the police to report a possible intruder?

Yet brave enough to post on AIBU!

Bit daft don't you think?

Floggingmolly · 30/03/2014 09:25

Karma will bite your arse tonight, op, when they come back to your house... Hmm

slartybartfast · 30/03/2014 09:26

perhaps it was the neighbour, looking for their spare key in the shed !

AvonCallingBarksdale · 30/03/2014 09:28

Good work, OP Hmm Thankfully you're not my neighbour. You know that's what the police are for, right?! they'll probably pop back tonight to see if there's anything worth nicking from yours

CherryLips1980 · 30/03/2014 09:29

FFS.

eurochick · 30/03/2014 09:30

Why on earth wouldn't you call 999 in this situation? FFS.

CharlieWoo · 30/03/2014 09:36

Gordy, was thinking the same thing!
Would not think to come on mumsnet when someone could potentially be burgling next door!

MimiSunshine · 30/03/2014 09:36

Scared it will come back on you? I doubt very much it's the local mafia creeping around.
More likely if it wasn't the neighbour it was a petty criminal who will assume you have now reported it to someone.

It's notoriously difficult to find evidence of who burgled you, any thief with at least half a brain knows not to wipe there finger prints all over your stuff or lick your possessions so chances are they won't get caught but you know if witnesses spoke up then the police might just have half a chance

saintmerryweather · 30/03/2014 09:43

The torch probably went off cos the robber was in your neighbours house emptying it. Lets hope your neighbours are able to return the favour one day

Bunbaker · 30/03/2014 09:47

So you come on here asking everyone whether you should call the police, they all say and and you do

nothing!

I'm glad you're not my neighbour.

Bunbaker · 30/03/2014 09:48

D'oh. They all say yes

Endymion · 30/03/2014 09:49

If the neighbours have been burgled, then the police are going to ask neighbours what they saw/heard. Is the op going to lie to the police and pretend they didn't see anything? Because the alternative is saying what was posted in the op - how bloody stupid will they look!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 30/03/2014 09:55

The torch went off because the burglar had got into OP's house by then and ate her kidneys with a nice Chianti. The police won't be coming cos she didn't call.

GinSoakedMisery · 30/03/2014 09:59

What a ridiculous Op. When would you call the police? When you could hear digging?

MissDuke · 30/03/2014 10:00

This is exactly the problem now, people don't want to get involved and there is no community spirit. How sad :-(

OwlCapone · 30/03/2014 10:00

person fires up laptop and posts on MN...

You have heard of smartphones haven't you? I'm posting from one right now.

However, smart isn't the first word that springs to mind when reading about the OPs inaction.

Octopusinabunchofdaffodils · 30/03/2014 10:04

OP I hope you did the right thing and phoned the police.

wowfudge · 30/03/2014 10:22

For crying out loud - this is just ridiculous. I hope the OP got a backbone and called the police. A few years ago I heard a commotion next door at midnight. There was really loud banging and voices - someone was trying to break in. I called 999 and they were round in a flash. Turned out it was drunken NDN and a male friend. She'd left her keys in the pub and they were trying to break a double-glazed window by the back door in order to get in.

Next day she apologised for the racket and thanked me for calling the police because I wasn't to know it was her.

Bornin1984 · 30/03/2014 10:40

PC bornin here - one suspects
The op shall not
Be returning to this Fred !Hmm

Floggingmolly · 30/03/2014 10:40

You have heard of smartphones haven't you?. What's your point? Confused. Op still used it to ask the world at large whether she should call the police to report an apparent robbery in progress, instead of using it to do what anyone with a brain in their head would have done, and called the police...
