It's not really that big a leap from redcurrants to blackcurrant cordial. Lots or recipes have fruit in them

I was making spiced red wine gravy to go with roast duck breasts a few weeks ago when I realised I'd forgotten to get redcurrant jelly.

Black cherry jam worked just as well!

My mother once added - by pure mistake - a strawberry yoghurt to a beef stroganoff instead of a plain yoghurt. Quite delicious.

someone i know was once salting the spuds in a pan and taking 2 aspirins for a headache at the same time. guess what ended up in the spuds pan - it wasn't the salt!

Lamb and Ribena sounds far more palatable than ham and coke.

I've not added Ribena to anything but anything made from berry fruits can pretty much be added in moderation safely to any rich meat casserole.

I can see where you are coming from, but I would have added cassis - Ribena for grown-ups ;-)

Red currant jelly is my all purpose poshing-up addition to any red meat gravy so I'm not surprised that a small splosh of Ribena gives a lamb stew a bit of added oomph.
