The throat infection has shafted your taste buds :) but its no different to gammon cooked in coke i suppose, i may give it a try

littleowl14 · 29/03/2014 19:46

I think just a splash, and deffo trying the blackcurrants and balsamic combo some time :)

OwlCapone · 29/03/2014 19:47

It's not really that big a leap from redcurrants to blackcurrant cordial. Lots or recipes have fruit in them

EeyoreIsh · 29/03/2014 20:10

Surely it's just like adding cassis, glad it worked.

littleowl14 · 29/03/2014 21:01

hmmm cassis hmmm Grin

my god having a baby makes you forget all sorts of lovely things!

saulaboutme · 29/03/2014 23:43

Has anyone tried cherry coke ham?

It is fabulousa!

Am cooking lamb shanks this week so am going to try onions, tinned toms and brown sugar.

Hope yours turns out good.

DumSpiroSpero · 29/03/2014 23:51

Ham in coke is lovely

I was making spiced red wine gravy to go with roast duck breasts a few weeks ago when I realised I'd forgotten to get redcurrant jelly.

Black cherry jam worked just as well!

cozietoesie · 30/03/2014 00:18

My mother once added - by pure mistake - a strawberry yoghurt to a beef stroganoff instead of a plain yoghurt. Quite delicious.

littleowl14 · 30/03/2014 12:21

ah there's a little heston in all of us!

Can't say I've ever used liquid nitrogen though... Ribena, yes.

mrsjay · 30/03/2014 13:11

oh you are having Lamb and a ribena Jus for dinner it could catch on Grin

phantomnamechanger · 30/03/2014 13:32

I'd draw the line at strawberry yogurt with beef! bleurgh! LOL

someone i know was once salting the spuds in a pan and taking 2 aspirins for a headache at the same time. guess what ended up in the spuds pan - it wasn't the salt!

Caitlin17 · 30/03/2014 13:35

Lamb and Ribena sounds far more palatable than ham and coke.

I've not added Ribena to anything but anything made from berry fruits can pretty much be added in moderation safely to any rich meat casserole.

mrsjay · 30/03/2014 13:42

Ham and coke sounds vile I have never had the urge to try it

Trazzletoes · 30/03/2014 13:44

Mmm ham in coke is DELICIOUS!

mrsjay · 30/03/2014 13:59

but does it not taste like hot cola ? not sure id like that

OwlCapone · 30/03/2014 14:18

Hot, salty cola.

mrsjay · 30/03/2014 14:23

Hot, salty cola.

see im not even sure that is a thing anybody would want to be eating Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/03/2014 17:39

What MrsJay said.

PasswordProtected · 30/03/2014 17:45

I can see where you are coming from, but I would have added cassis - Ribena for grown-ups ;-)

ImAThrillseekerHoney · 30/03/2014 17:51

Red currant jelly is my all purpose poshing-up addition to any red meat gravy so I'm not surprised that a small splosh of Ribena gives a lamb stew a bit of added oomph.
