...start a thread with a title that gives no indication as to what the thread is about?

I want a thread title to give me some idea as to whether I will be interested in it's contents or not. I don't want to waste my valuable time opening a thread "What do you think or..." only to find it continues "...of 19th century Bolivian accountancy methods?" when you open it. In the time it took to realise the thread was as boring as a toaster, I could have left the house to go and do some manly pursuit, and en route arrived at the scene of an accident just in time to save a young child's life. These types of thread titles could kill. Please stop them.

What I especially love is the threads asking a specific technical question about 19th century Bolivian accountancy methods. People google, find links, relate tales of the time they used their time machine to see for themselves the maths prowess of the Bolivians - and the OP never, ever returns. One day I will track one of those posters down and tell them "it was nothing, really - don't mention it. The pleasure was all mine".

And so pleased you've been promoted, Tiggy. Did you bypass the MBE or did I miss that?

MBEs are for lollipop operatives and minor sports persons.

So I should think of that sort of title as similar to the angler fish's light. Lure people in before devouring them with the real AIBU.

And tosters are boring, hence the phrase "as boring as a toaster". They toast. That's it. Their whole raison d'etre is to toast. Sometimes they have bagel or crumpet settings depending on the class they're aimed at, but that's only toasting on just one side.

But another Mumsnetter may come up with the vexatious lack of general knowledge regarding the frequency of which Bolivian accountants had to give tax relief for the owners of toasters (adjustable for crumpets, bagels and otherwise) surely? Without such threads, how are we to know this sort of stuff?

Do you have unusually large crumpets? (Not a euphemism) I've never had any crumpetular issues regarding their toasterfication

I shall measure my crumpets and start a thread titled AIBU to ask you how big your crumpets are.

Maybe they are Bolivian crumpets.

If you want to post a thread about South American accountancy of any era, you should post it without shame BUT title it correctly so interested parties can find it.

Maybe it needs a forum of it's own?

I have no crumpets at all

adjustable for crumpets, bagels and otherwise. But they're just the same setting: Toast on just one side. It just depends on the class of toaster.

Upper class toaster:

cherrytree buy supermarket own brand crumpets. Kingsmill and Warbutons are too thick. As a short rule, if there's only six crumpets in the packet, not a single one will fit in the toaster. Only buy crumpets which are sold in packets of eight or more.

I have the black faceted toasted and it has ruined my marriage. DH hates it, he thinks the toaster is too big for the kettle and they should not be together.

He is nearly 6ft I am only 5, I think he is trying to tell me something.

Toaster/kettle respective proportions don't matter. Giant kettle, tiny toaster - no problem.

What matters is that they must co-ordinate. Mine are both dark red.

I bought a crisp bread roll in Sainsbo's this morning. Does anyone know where I can by a toaster that it could fit into? Not really interested really because I like my rolls halved, well buttered and accompanied by a soft boiled egg.

I went to a barbecue once where guests took a contribution. Someone had made rissoles out of mince and, as they warmed up, they fell through the barbecue into the charcoal. Just thought you'd like to know.....
