To have never really understood the appeal of the "pigeon toe" stand and actually think that people who insist in doing it are twats

I see this pose done a lot in fashion magazines or by people who are trying to look a bit cool but casual etc.

Dunno, it just seems very affected to me and I instantly just think "twat" if is see someone posing like this or when having their photo taken.

do you know what I mean? AIBU? Am I the only one?

I'm a w sitter too. Although my most common sit is almost like cross legged but with one leg wrapped over the top of the other and down to the side. Wonder if that has a name?

AnyFucker · 27/03/2014 20:25

Can you find a photo of it, Beyond ? It doesn't sound hip-healthy anyway Smile

LovelyMarchHare · 27/03/2014 20:26

Im afraid to say that I find myself doing both of these. I'm rarely on a red carpet or fashion supplement lifestyle shoot but I definitely do it.

CombineBananaFister · 27/03/2014 20:27

wtf is a pigeon toe? - I try to steer clear of fashion mags and soapy tv news in general but am bemused.
I know what camel toe is (unfortunate) but pigoen toe? clearly I've been out of the media game too long

Here you go Grin

AnyFucker · 27/03/2014 20:30

Ah, Beyond, that is not too bad other than showing a freaky amount of hip flexibility

It is not encouraging the pigeon toe, trip over your own feet look

it's like an extra dimension to Indian Sitting Smile

MirandaGoshawk · 27/03/2014 20:31

OP - YADNBU.

I thought the same thing the other day, it was a fashion spread in a Sunday supplement. Made me think how we were told at school not to stand with feet pointing in, and that those models of the 50s looked so much more elegant.

NewtRipley · 27/03/2014 20:31

Combine

Look at AnyFucker's link.

MirandaGoshawk · 27/03/2014 20:31

Slouching, too. Why is that supposed to be a good look?

thenightsky · 27/03/2014 20:32

I've been pigeon toed and knocked kneed all my life. I'm glad to hear I'm finally fashionable Grin

Moomey · 27/03/2014 20:32

Is that davina mcCall on sport relief by anychance Happyagain

KippyVonKipperson · 27/03/2014 20:32

Yes! This is such an annoying pose. Love the pintrest compilation of stupid pigeon toed poses, I might start a similar one of models doing that annoying 'jump in the air' pose (often accompanied by a pigeon toe)

thenightsky · 27/03/2014 20:33

Ooh yes to the slouching... Zara models are the worst for this.

NewtRipley · 27/03/2014 20:34

Someone on that link of AF's makes the point that the pigeon-toed look 9and I suppose the slouching looks too) could be interpreted as looking young and vulnerable, not strong and confident.

Therefore I suggest models should stand chest out legs akimbo like Alfie Bow singing in Les Miserables

NorbertDentressangle · 27/03/2014 20:40

Oh God, yes, Davina on Sports Relief, she couldn't stand still and was jiggling and hopping around as if she needed a wee.

Re: Jess Cartner Morley - does she still stand like that?! I haven't read the Guardian for years but I used to get so annoyed at her pigeon toed or knock-kneed stances every Saturday.

NewtRipley · 27/03/2014 20:44

She's emulating models. Which is silly because she is not one. I don't look at the clothes much because I'm frothing about the pose, the price and the stoopid stripper high heels she wears with every outfit.

Mintyy · 27/03/2014 20:49

In The Guardian now the models just sort of "hang" there, slightly hunched and droopy. All of em. I'm amazed at the length of some of the arms.

LEMmingaround · 27/03/2014 20:52

I dont know what the pigeon toe stance is, but i read it and it computed as camel toe stance - i immediately thought of primark leggings and margate.

Blu · 27/03/2014 21:00

PMSL at camel toe.

OP: YANBU. Grown women trying to look cutesy-wootsie posing as toddlers, aaaargh!

That Boden pic is double aaaaaargh because it has the 'peekaboo' covering face like a toddler, too.

Objection · 27/03/2014 21:05

This is how I stand normally Blush I have a slight twist to my pelvis and I walk with a pigeon toed lilt.

Grin at least I'm fashionable now

Nerris · 27/03/2014 21:06

Not sure if she's been mentioned already but Scarlett Johansson is a mare for doing the pigeon toed stance. They just look ridiculous, like they can't walk in heels properly.

Alexa Chung does a lot of that crossing the leg thing too. Argh.

Objection · 27/03/2014 21:08

Reading the rest of this thread has actually made me feel really self conscious about how I stand.
I wonder how many people look at me and think i'm a "twat" "idiot" "lazy" etc Sad
I do stand cross legged too because it's more comfortable

CombineBananaFister · 27/03/2014 21:10

AAh, thankyou, so not good then -innocent awkward child pose but adult or trying to be quirky and unaffected - basically bleugghh

CombineBananaFister · 27/03/2014 21:11

non-medicaland comfortable reasons withstanding Blush
