To have never really understood the appeal of the "pigeon toe" stand and actually think that people who insist in doing it are twats

I see this pose done a lot in fashion magazines or by people who are trying to look a bit cool but casual etc.

Dunno, it just seems very affected to me and I instantly just think "twat" if is see someone posing like this or when having their photo taken.

do you know what I mean? AIBU? Am I the only one?

I just googled it, it doesn't look bad when the slebs do it, if I stood like that people would think I need surgery on my hips.

Flibbertyjibbet · 27/03/2014 19:49

My niece has a fashion blog and every bloody entry has her in some wacky outfit and pigeon toed position. She has, er, curvy legs and favours very clumpy plattform boots and shoes. Not a good look.
Her mother an I smile indulgently whilst muttering about her needing to stand up straight.

Happy

I am often shouting at the telly for women to blinking well put their shoulders back.

Claudia Winkelman I am looking at you

NewtRipley · 27/03/2014 19:50

I love Claudia Winkelman, by the way

minipie · 27/03/2014 19:50

newt I agree. There is a phenomenon known as "catalogue model thigh" I believe, in other words a thigh that is thinner than anyone has ever seen in RL but seems to be the norm in catalogues.

I wonder if it might be mostly Photoshop.

Cocole

She needs to pout a bit more and grow a beard. The trousers are nice and short though

OverAndAbove · 27/03/2014 19:54

Oh yes! I really get riled by this.

If it's an infomercial for the Rickets Society, then fair enough; I say feel free to continue turning your legs inwards. But in all other circumstances, it looks silly and girly and lacking in vitamin D. I apologise if this offends anyone who actually has Rickets

Cocole

You can literally find anything on the internet. Well done Grin

Even has a Breton T shirt

NewtRipley · 27/03/2014 19:57

Euphemia

The really sad thing is that that is how I have to stand after a few drinks and 2 children

You should note that hipster bird isnt standing pigeon toed, obviously too achingly hip to follow the masses.

BeverleyMoss · 27/03/2014 20:10

That link of Anyfucker's is funny, I admit it.

It's a curse I tell you, I was forever tripping over my own feet as a child. I had to make myself walk with 10 to 2 feet for a year to train myself out of it. It has mostly gone apart from when I unexpectedly have to run, then the pigeons get the better of me Sad

Logg1e · 27/03/2014 20:13

Blimey you lot, how do you want women to stand?

thesaurusgirl · 27/03/2014 20:13

I know Jess Cartner Morley in real life. The pigeon-toed stance is indeed an affectation, and she is indeed a twat.

AnyFucker · 27/03/2014 20:14

You pigeon toed people need to sit Indian Stylee for an hour a day

Do not W sit

You shall be cured Grin

I hadn't noticed this but it's probably all I'll see from now on. I was also drawn in by the misunderstanding with 'camel toe'. No photo links please.

Logg1e · 27/03/2014 20:18

So long as their toes aren't pointing inwards or they have one leg in front of another or their shoulders slouching forward...

Logg1e · 27/03/2014 20:19

I remember hearing the toes slightly together thing on a slot about wedding photography, as being in preference to standing with your legs apart, feet wide.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 27/03/2014 20:19

This is clearly the one reason why I am not a model. I was wondering what it was Grin If I stood like that, my hip would pop out!

BeverleyMoss · 27/03/2014 20:20

AF, that's how I always sat as a child - and still do quite comfortably, completely flat against the floor. I was amazed at others not being able to do this, - they of course thought I was some kind of freak Grin

I was born with dislocated hips and had splints on until I was about a year old - I developed a very interesting bum shuffle to get about.

AnyFucker · 27/03/2014 20:22

Bev, you prove my point with your dicky hips and bum shuffling Smile
