It's called "women who eat on tubes" and is entirely made up of pictures of women, taken without their knowledge, eating in the tube.

I know it's not illegal or anything but it's a bit of a nightmare for me. Like many women I carry around a few food issues and have never been keen on people watching me eat. Still I've had to eat on the tube a few times...rushing from work to child pick up or at the end of a long day with the kids when it's my first sit down for hours...Those kind of situations. I would never whip out a full Indian takeaway on the Jubilee Line but on this group anything is fair game. A bag of raisins in your handbag will get you posted up there alongside the "secret sandwich scoffers".

AIBU to panic at the thought of this? I haven't spotted myself on there but I'm so paranoid that I will...

It is creepy and weird, but I wouldn't let a small group of weirdos run my life and dictate when and what I eat (and I also overcame an eating disorder)
There is a site called 'women picking up dog poo' and I always get a bit nervous when I'm clearing up after the dog in the park.
But, if they weren't posting these photos on to a site, they would be putting them on Tumblr.
In the old days, they probably took poloroid pics and posted them to each other.

In the really old days, they probably drew pictures on the walls.

There will just always be oddballs who take too much interest in other people going about their daily lives. Changing my schedule won't stop that.

it's like this too, but this is men and women and it's to laugh at them. Some of them are a bit Hmm though

Kleinzeit · 27/03/2014 15:31

“Subjects are embraced and cherished. We celebrate and encourage women eating food on tubes, we do not marginalise them. We always look for the story in the picture. We don't swear.*

And do we ask subjects’ permission before embracing and cherishing them and publishing their picture all over Facebook? Thought not.

Valdeeves · 27/03/2014 15:34

I think these guys have too much time on their hands and probably have never had a girlfriend.

nannynewo · 27/03/2014 15:42

I have just looked up this group and think it is awful! These poor women probably don't even know they are on it. I just saw one picture of a woman eating a banana with some sexual comments.

Please can everyone who disagrees with this, report it? I just have.

whois · 27/03/2014 15:54

Only common people worry about other people being common. Fact.

Nothing wrong with eating on the tube as long as it's not something smelly or messy. Got to eat sometime!

PloddingDaily · 27/03/2014 15:59

Another type 1 diabetic here, who sometimes has to eat - shock horror - in public! Hmm A hypo is a medical emergency and despite the best control in the world they do sometimes happen at awkward times. I figure it's all round probably politer to stuff my face in public than to collapse messily in a coma & possibly die. Which is worse to inflict on the public - Crumbs or a corpse? It's a no brainer! Smile

I didn't ask to be diabetic (type 1 is autoimmune & in no way related to lifestyle!), & frankly find the idea that people would get a rise out of seeing me scoffing in public odd to say the least. As for those who get offended by it; have a Biscuit , which I hope you have the decency to nibble in private.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2014 17:22

I remember when I was a Girl Guide, and we were on a day out with the guides (a county fair, iirc), and the Guider was at great pains to tell us that we would be letting down the whole guiding movement if we were seen eating whilst walking around in public. It was fine if we were sitting down to eat our ice cream cones, but if we wandered round with them (like every single other person was doing) we were a Disgrace To The Uniform, and Lady Baden Powell would haunt us forever and eat our souls (it is possible I may have exaggerated a bit, but I haven't exaggerated much - honest).

Sallyingforth · 27/03/2014 18:18

It's FB. No-one forces you to look at anything or anyone on there. Go and do something useful instead.

sarine1 · 27/03/2014 18:31

I also hate people eating on the tube BUT this is intrusive and creepy. Post photos with people's consent but this is nasty - and why women? Just more misogynistic morons behind it.
Just because we can do something doesn't make it right!

Aventurine · 27/03/2014 19:09

We may not be forced to look at the group, but people are being forced to appear on it without their consent.

MuttonCadet · 27/03/2014 19:15

Eating in public is common?

I'm assume that doesn't include restaurants?

I have no issue with eating in public, but then I know I'm not common so would laugh at anyone who tried to judge me.

katese11 · 27/03/2014 20:27

Exactly Aventurine. It doesn't matter what the medium is...If you suspect people might be laughing at you behind your back, you want to know, however much it hurts. And for all the purity of the official group line, there area still going to be people who use it as a chance to make fun of women for being fat, being common, eating messily etc....All things that are kinda triggery for me. What freaks me out is that the person I recognised in there isn't a sad, lonely weirdo type at all. He was one of the super popular ones at dh's work and being in such a sneery group makes me think he probably sneered at dh and I as well.

It's common to eat in public? Grin I haven't heard anything so funny for ages.

roadwalker · 28/03/2014 17:07

However hard it would be to police I think it should be illegal to put photographs of people on-line without their permission
I hate it on here when posters put pictures of overweight girls in leggings, it is all so cruel

EEatingSoupForLunch · 28/03/2014 17:07

"Common" and "skanky"?? Some people are seriously weird. It makes me pleased to have such a relatively uncomplicated life.

iloveny001 · 28/03/2014 21:31

I often eat dinner on the tube, I work 14 hr days, often skipping my dinner break so I can look after sick patients. I do it to save me time so when I get home I can shower and go straight to bed. Would be severely pissed off if I saw someone taking a photo and would tell them too.

kanno · 28/03/2014 21:49

i have a tube hands phobia.... the study that claimed that "all kinds" of bodily output was found on seats, handrails etc. if ever i've eaten on the tube, it's been a starvingly shameful act after anti-bac wipes.
WTF would want to post stalker pics of people in the act?

Val007 · 29/03/2014 20:26

These men are SICK. They need to get a life, really.

digerd · 29/03/2014 20:53

In Germany it is illegal to eat or drink on public transport. Sucking a sweet is OK so long as you bin the wrapper and not drop it on the floor or seat. Except in the trains that have tables to eat and drink on. I enjoyed a scrumptious meal on one long distance train

bebows · 29/03/2014 21:01

Similar to the sleepy commuters on twitter

its hilarious and I would certainly post a pic if I saw a scoffer or a snoozer

katese11 · 30/03/2014 10:38

Can I ask why bebows? Mocking people for sleeping and eating? Aren't these things you do? How blessed you are to always have enough time to only eat at home and have plentiful amounts of sleep!

OP posts:
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/03/2014 11:55

I assume bebows would have no objection to an embarrassing picture of her being posted, for others to laugh at? Maybe she believes that, because it is OK for her to hold others up to ridicule, it is equally fine for it to happen to her.

It is very sad to see that there are people, mature adults, who believe it is acceptable to put up pictures of other people, without their consent, to be laughed at. Who don't realise how nasty, and small-mindedly mean it is.

Poogate · 04/04/2014 22:23

Bebows, ah, you're a bit of a sad case aren't you ! Bless
