It's called "women who eat on tubes" and is entirely made up of pictures of women, taken without their knowledge, eating in the tube.

I know it's not illegal or anything but it's a bit of a nightmare for me. Like many women I carry around a few food issues and have never been keen on people watching me eat. Still I've had to eat on the tube a few times...rushing from work to child pick up or at the end of a long day with the kids when it's my first sit down for hours...Those kind of situations. I would never whip out a full Indian takeaway on the Jubilee Line but on this group anything is fair game. A bag of raisins in your handbag will get you posted up there alongside the "secret sandwich scoffers".

AIBU to panic at the thought of this? I haven't spotted myself on there but I'm so paranoid that I will...

Madame what's the difference between eating in a cafe, or in a park at a picnic, and eating on the tube? No one's setting up a three course meal or anything on the tube. It doesn't really impact anyone else, so why the objection? 'Too much pride' suggests you find something shameful about food. Confused

MrCabDriver · 26/03/2014 23:20

I'm confused. Is it some sort of fetish or are they trying to embarrass people?

What's wrong with eating on the tube?

NurseyWursey · 26/03/2014 23:21

Noo aventurine sorry I should have made it clear I realise now looking back!

Ooof they don't go easy on people who dare to post photos of women on TRAINS instead of TUBES.

They have very clear requirements!

I don't get the tube

NurseyWursey · 26/03/2014 23:22

^I'm confused. Is it some sort of fetish or are they trying to embarrass people?

I'm not sticking up for them... but I don't think they're trying to embarrass anyone. Like I've said they've shot people down for making rude or sexist comments.

I think from the looks of things it started off small and has now snowballed into a 'thing'.

NurseyWursey · 26/03/2014 23:25

Oh this is their 'message'

*WWEOT is observational not judgemental. It doesn't intimidate nor bully.

Subjects are embraced and cherished. We celebrate and encourage women eating food on tubes, we do not marginalise them. We always look for the story in the picture. We don't swear.*

It's made me hungry though, I have to say.

Aventurine · 26/03/2014 23:25

I just looked up the group. That has to be one of the most boring Fb groups ever. It's like

"Men scratching their head on the tube."
"Men blowing their nose on the tube."
"Men reading a book on a tube."

Yawn!

WilsonFrickett · 26/03/2014 23:27

Ugh. I think it's fetishy. No-one fucking asked them to 'cherish and embrace' the subjects. Weird, fetishising and an invasion of privacy.

stroudd · 26/03/2014 23:34

I agree the women bit in the title seems to be sexist but there's a website, lookatmyfuckingredtrousers that is entirely focused on men and think its hilarious. There's an important concept of invasion of privacy in all these things however

CoffeeTea103 · 27/03/2014 00:37

How weird. But to be fair some of those things look like they would reek out the tubeConfused

ICanSeeTheSun · 27/03/2014 00:43

womenwhoeatontubes.tumblr.com/

Omg these photos should be banned.

If people are against eating in public don't you ever have picnics in the park or go to restaurants. Same thing you are eating in public.

Madame Matisse - does that include picnics ? Eating Al Fresco when on holiday on the terrace of a posh eaterie. Barbeques ?

maffive · 27/03/2014 05:11

Couldn't resist having a look. Very odd. However, posted yesterday is a lady eating pombears Grin!

Chococroc · 27/03/2014 06:35

no one has to eat on the tube - I ate whilst on the tube yesterday, I'm a type 1 diabetic and my blood sugar was dropping rapidly. If anyone, as above, thinks that's common or means I have no pride and am skanky that's their, unnecessarily judgmental, call. I'll carry on doing what works for me and my health.

izzydazzling · 27/03/2014 06:51

'men who take up too space on the train' was a big one last year.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 27/03/2014 07:08

"Everywhere I go I see women eating on tubes. Like little mice hiding packets of crisps and biscuits in their bags and purses. Slowly, secretly, guiltily raising each bite-sized morsel to their salty lips in the hope that no one’s watching. Well, I’m watching. And I’m photographing, documenting the fascinating world of the Women Who Eat on Tubes."

GertTheFlirt · 27/03/2014 07:18

Well I nicked this off their page ... this is the WWEOT Christmas party - the whole thing seems to be a celebration.

Last year November, my sister took WWEOT to the next level:
Time: 6th November 2013
Food: Red wine, White wine, Roast chicken, Victoria sponge
Line: Too long ago, but XXX do you remember the line?

Nocomet · 27/03/2014 07:20

Your not allowed to talk to anyone on the tube.
Your not allowed to smile at anyone
So you might as well eat!

As for the FB group, it's misogamistic, weird and wrong.

GertTheFlirt · 27/03/2014 07:21

Seem to be a lot of women in it judging by their christmas Party.

Odd but harmless.

aermingers · 27/03/2014 07:33

It's not common to eat in public. The Queen does it all the time at garden parties, picnics, barbecues and hunts.

I think what you actually mean is it offends your lower middle class sensibilities like a bit of dog hair in the car or net curtains which have been left a bit too long without washing. Personally I find this much more 'common' of we're going to bandy that word around.

Aventurine · 27/03/2014 07:38

I don't think it's harmless. They didn't give permission to be on the fb group.

akachan · 27/03/2014 07:44

If it bothers you OP I'm surprised you're driving traffic there. I think it's very rude to sneakily take pictures of anyone so I don't like it.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 27/03/2014 07:50

If they want to hang around on the tube troughing then fine, have at it. But I hate the idea of posting pictures without consent, it's bloody rude at best.

For what it's worth the best food is eaten in public, street food etc.

I'm not aware of that bylaw, you can't drink alcohol on the tube though.
