It's called "women who eat on tubes" and is entirely made up of pictures of women, taken without their knowledge, eating in the tube.

I know it's not illegal or anything but it's a bit of a nightmare for me. Like many women I carry around a few food issues and have never been keen on people watching me eat. Still I've had to eat on the tube a few times...rushing from work to child pick up or at the end of a long day with the kids when it's my first sit down for hours...Those kind of situations. I would never whip out a full Indian takeaway on the Jubilee Line but on this group anything is fair game. A bag of raisins in your handbag will get you posted up there alongside the "secret sandwich scoffers".

AIBU to panic at the thought of this? I haven't spotted myself on there but I'm so paranoid that I will...

OP posts:

just wierd how people find the time to either read, post or care about such trivial crap.

best ignored op. don't look on the site. very very childish.

thebody · 27/03/2014 08:00

by post I mean not you posting op but the Facebook posts.

MrsWedgeAntilles · 27/03/2014 08:13

That's so weird, why would you do that?
In quite a lot of those pictures it looks as thought the next photo would be said woman or someone near her ripping the photographer a new one. What a strange thing to put yourself at risk of a beating for.

Whenever you think "there's no way someone would do that", pretty much the next person you come across is doing it.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 27/03/2014 08:25

My grandma who is the guru of all things "well mannered" has informed me that it's very poor manners to eat walking in the street and on tube/train/bus. I think it's only poor manners to eat on public transport if it's smelly; I'm looking at you man who ate a sloppy curry on the 186!

Beachcombergirl · 27/03/2014 08:35

Madamemattise Um, I think picnics have been going on for many centuries?

riskit4abiskit · 27/03/2014 08:50

Aargh I eat all the time outside (dont go on the tube tho). Would only eat on transport if starving tho. Quite like pushing pram with one hand, greggs slice in the other!

Saw an interesting Facebook page on someone's wall yesterday; drawing cocks on the paper. Had a good few laughs at that one childish? Me? Never!

akachan · 27/03/2014 08:53

I eat a piece of toast walking to the train station every morning. It's not really a time saving thing I just like it. Unrepentant!

Trenzalor · 27/03/2014 08:56

What a strange group. I'm now regretting that pret sarnie on the northern line but I was starving and it was the first time I was able to sit and not push the buggy.

frostyfingers · 27/03/2014 09:01

Do your best to ignore it - FB won't take it down, there are some really vile pages out there which encourage violence and harassment and they stay.....

picnicbasketcase · 27/03/2014 09:05

That's very odd and voyeuristic. These people have no idea that pictures have been posted of them online, they haven't given permission to be photographed. If the people running the pages started taking pictures up women's skirts, they'd be in serious trouble, why would they think it's okay to take pictures of people eating for their own weird enjoyment?

Teeb · 27/03/2014 09:12

I've got to saying do despise with every fibre of my being people who choose to eat in such a contained space as tubes/trains with other people, it's hugely inconsiderate and self absorbed to put your needs above others comfort. These people especially like to eat crisps using every angle of their teeth possible, it gives me the rage!

(FB page is weird and intrusive though)

andsmile · 27/03/2014 09:20

Why is it just women?

I dont get it.

Pervs.

WilsonFrickett · 27/03/2014 09:44

I did this once. And got so many smiles and waves from people driving by that I made it a regular occurrence Grin

I don't have a commute anymore but thanks for that memory akachan

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2014 10:31

This is a bit weird, and I wouldn't like to find my picture on there (because I have huge issues about my weight and appearance, and would feel horribly judged for 'eating while being fat'), but in fairness, you can't say they are invading people's privacy, because they are out in public.

MadameMattise · 27/03/2014 10:45

Those of you asking what the difference is between eating on the tube/bus/train and eating a picnic in a park/BBQ/restaurant - if you have to ask that then I feel sorry for you.

HarderThanYouThink · 27/03/2014 11:17

I hate that people can take secret photos of you and post them online, its just wrong.

pettybetty · 27/03/2014 11:27

I understand the slight discomfort, but I think YABU. What makes these pics any different to those posted of those people of Walmart or other pics that people like to look at on the internet? Some people look at pictures of cats, other people obviously like to look at women who are eating.

I do feel sorry for anyone who was snapped, but we all know that we could be snapped at any time now and we are on cctv all the time (well, you are as I'm not in UK atm) so its obviously just a niche corner of the internet. I prob won't visit the group, because its not something that interests me and I assume the same of most people.

andsmile · 27/03/2014 11:53

Why madam

Dawndonnaagain · 27/03/2014 12:06

All of you delightful judgy folk who think it's 'skanky' to eat in public, kindly remember that there are people with diabetes and other conditions that require them to eat. On occasion that may be in public. If this doesn't happen there is the possible that they may die, but hey, you carry on judging...

Aventurine · 27/03/2014 12:28

Agreed Dawndonna

softlysoftly · 27/03/2014 12:40

I commute and in early pg stages it made me sick so I nibbled a biscuit throughout.

Next time I'll jist vomit on people instead much politer!

I hate that you can have your picture up like that feels pervy!

Latara · 27/03/2014 12:50

It sounds like a very 'studenty' group to me. I bet they are art students. (stereotyping wildly here).

Seriously there are some strange groups on FB.

I dislike the 'Spotted' pages though, they like to shame people seriously.

Joolsy · 27/03/2014 13:00

OK feel sorry for me then madam, although I really don't want or need any sympathy. Picnics, barbecues, garden parties, eating a sarnie in the park during lunchbreak, pub gardens, even wedding reception - these are all in public and outide. So I and millions of others must be really skanky, or you're wrong.

KellyElly · 27/03/2014 13:00

I will be looking at everyone suspiciously next time I'm stuffing my face with a bag of crisps on the tube Grin
