Just that really.

You think the suggestion that education be secularised is inherently militant?!

Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread. I'd like to see the end of faith schools in this country, certainly, as I don't believe in segregation. However, it would be a good start if we could get rid of collective worship in schools which are not attached to a particular faith.

As someone who made a point of moving to an area where there were decent schools without religious affiliation, and who specifically chose to send dd to a very multicultural school, I was a bit taken aback to discover that collective worship of a broadly Christian nature was a requirement. I was not impressed when dd, at 4, came home and told me that Jesus was the light of the world. Hmm

Where is the choice in that?

No I have no problem with secular schools, I went to one and so did my siblings and my child goes to one. What I have a problem with is this push to try and secularize all schools.

Kim147 a bit presumptuous aren't you. You have no idea what my beliefs are.

hak at 17.28 you used the word 'intolerant'. My idea is that a generation who hadn't experienced any faith schools would be more tolerant.

"What I have a problem with is this push to try and secularize all schools"

Can you explain why?

Serendipity30 · 30/03/2014 17:34

Kim147 I believe in choice, why should I or any parent have to explain MY choice regarding schools to you or anyone just because you dont understand my choice.

Serendipity30 · 30/03/2014 17:37

fideline and are you saying that children who attend faith schools are intolerant. Where do you get this from? What about children who are sent to private schools. How about we close all private schools Or if its state funding that bothers you, let all the faith schools become private then your not funding it are you?

"Or if its state funding that bothers you, let all the faith schools become private then your not funding it are you?"

I'd be happy with that!

Serendipity30 · 30/03/2014 17:38

CorusKate you recent comment alone is disgusting so because some do this, your tarring everybody with the same brush, shame on you.

Fleta · 30/03/2014 17:39

If you dont like faith schools vote with your feet, instead of trying to airbrush faith out of society. Im so tired of the atheist militant agenda that is so prevalent on mumsnets. I find it discriminatory and quite worrying

Not actually that easy though is it? Where I am, I have NO option other than CofE or Catholic primaries. It isn't about militant agenda it is about the right to CHOOSE.

We are atheist. That is just as valid as someone who has a religion. When my daughter is old enough she will choose - if she wants to follow a faith then absolutely fine, if she doesn't - also good. But I want her to be able to find out about things through careful consideration and personal thought not because Mrs Smith in assembly says this is how you should believe

CorusKate your own prejudice is coming to the fore which proves my point. Its not faith schools but people of faith you have a problem with. As apparently we go around calling people 'Infidels'

Hakuna- why do you have a problem with schools being secular?

Serendipity30 · 30/03/2014 17:41

Dont you read your posts before you send

Fleta · 30/03/2014 17:43

My thinking would be: -

Secular schools - 100% state funded
Faith schools - 100% private

Then there are options for all
