AIBU to not like idea of DD ordering Dominoes pizza for school lunch!

Apparently a group of them get together and order pizzas at break taking advantage of Tues BOGOF and a delivery driver brings them to school at lunchtime. Am I just being old fashioned objecting to this? DD is in first year at secondary school. I already hate that they are allowed out to roam the streets during lunchtime but this seems worse although if I'm honest I'm kit sure why!

I'm amazed that the local Domino's will deliver to the school, and that the school haven't put a stop to it.

I can't actually think of a great reason, other than pizza is not very healthy really, but I don't like the sound of this.

Never known year 7s being allowed to "roam the streets" (no judgement there!)

We used to go to the chip shop every Friday for lunch when in the sixth form at school. No different to that really. Although not as young as 11/12 though.

Pizza is probably no worse than the bacon butties and pasta pots served at DDs school.

Honestly secondary food isn't very good and the queues are ridiculous.

Yes unfortunately they are allowed to go out at lunchtime. I didn't want DD to be left out and find it difficult to make new friends and fit in so I reluctantly agreed to her going with her friends - usually to a local supermarket! I so wish the school would clamp down on this. Fair enough for upper school but for years 7-9 surely they would be better on school premises! She has already made arrangements with her pals for tomorrow so I have told her she can do it tomorrow but not to make it a regular thing. Dominoes pizzas should be a rare treat not part of a regular diet!

Good god, it's fine. When we lived in Canada the DSs school frequently had a pizza lunch with the local pizza place delivering pizza, the kids loved it......unclench.

There's only one local school left around here that lets its pupils out at lunchtime and the local chicken/kebab.pizza/fish and chips/Greggs make an absolute killing.

I agree with you, once in a while is fine, regularly is not ok. Does she do much sport? I'd be inclined to ignore it if it was only once a week and she was running around a couple of hours a day.

So where in school do they get delivered? Reception would really annoy office staff.

The guy waits outside in the bus stops. I'm not comfortable with the idea for school lunch, I think Dominoes pizzas are yummy and consider them a treat for special occasions. The children often choose them for a birthday tea and I'm fine with that. I actually think it's the idea of ordering take away food, being delivered by some bloke in a van that I'm more uncomfortable with the more I think of it. Mind you there is also a chip van that parks outside the school. I agree - it completely makes a mockery of primary packed lunch policing and because of the tight rules at that level these children aren't well practiced at making sensible choices themselves and are suddenly faced with all this choice! Fortunately DD does a lot of sport and is fairly health conscious, prefers humous & veg to chocolate (very odd!) so I'm sure it won't do her much harm but I do wish the school would put a stop to it.

In the grand scheme of things it's not too bad! She's making friends and is pretty enterprising with clubbing together and doing it on BOGOF Tuesdays.

I don't get the worries of the pizza 'man in a van' he's hardly likly to abduct your girl is he with her friends about?!?

Make sure Tuesday's dinner is lovely and healthy and light to compensate if you're worried about nutrition.

I think the domino man is the least of your worries, if you really knew what went on in secondary school playgrounds you'd home educate with immediate effect!

Tbh I don't see the problem. If there is a group sharing she'll probably eat what? A couple of slices. And it's only once a week.

It's normal here for kids to go out for lunch too and I don't think it's a big deal, however I live in a fairly quiet town so that's possibly why.
