Is it unreasonable to not RTFT all the time, especially when there is 100+ responses

And I just want to answer the original post. A few times I've had a flaming for not RTFT when it was too long. Is this unreasonable for AIBU posts?
I do read some but not all depending on the post.

As a fairly new user here, what is your personal top etiquette rule on a forum such as MN?

OP posts:

the thread title catches the eye, the opening post demands a response. no-one is obliged to read all the opinions of randoms who have posted before. post your own response and move on.

RandallFloyd · 22/03/2014 21:23

You have to move the keyboard out of the way a Hearts.

It took me ages to figure it out too but if you press the little hide keyboard button you can copy. Then when you click into the message box it just pops back up.

RandallFloyd · 22/03/2014 21:26

But RabbitLady, what would be the point of the site if everyone did that?

dontrtft1 · 22/03/2014 21:26

Usage of "RTFT" is a good indicator of being a moron self appointed forum admin who gets off on feeling important on the internet.

EduCated · 23/03/2014 07:24

There are times when RTFT is appropriate. Like when peoe need to RTFT.

RustyBear · 23/03/2014 07:35

Of course, if the OP changes her name half-way through a thread the highlighting thing won't pick it up, so you'll have to rtft to find out.Wink

Once you have discovered it, then Ctrl-F or 'Search on this Page' is your friend...

SanityClause · 23/03/2014 07:38

Sorry, Hearts, not yooneek, at all. I have the same.

Great minds?

ICanSeeTheSun · 23/03/2014 07:45

I just don't bother posting on large threads, unless it's a topic I like.

LtEveDallas · 23/03/2014 08:14

How amusing, some GF feels the need to NC on a thread as innocuous as this. Says a lot about their kind of contribution.

Joysmum · 23/03/2014 08:22

I am forever grateful to whoever it was a couple of months back who posted about customising the settings to highlight posts made by the OP (green) and me (grey).

It's much easier to navigate now. Certain threads (like the waxing and wiping thread) were so much easier because of it. That was an example where if everyone highlighted OP posts the thread would have been so much shorter although far less entertaining and worthy of classic status

NewtRipley · 23/03/2014 09:31

Rabit

Posting your own response is meaningless of the thread has moved on.

Saying rtft may be a bit rude, but not reading the thread can make you look insensitive, stupid, or rude. Which you may or may not care about if you don't read orher people's responses to your comment ......

NewtRipley · 23/03/2014 09:32

Thanks all for the tip about bookmarking. Had no idea about this.

EdithWeston · 23/03/2014 09:37

I think it's right to comment along the lines of RTFT. Because if it is upsetting a thread that has moved on, leaving it there without comment means that more posters might follow suit (not having read the middle of the thread, but seeing (wrongly) what it still appears to be about from the most recent post).

The 'F' in similar acronyms used in school stands for 'full' so you needn't take it as offensive, just a friendly reminder (assuming nothing else contentious).
