Is it unreasonable to not RTFT all the time, especially when there is 100+ responses

And I just want to answer the original post. A few times I've had a flaming for not RTFT when it was too long. Is this unreasonable for AIBU posts?
I do read some but not all depending on the post.

As a fairly new user here, what is your personal top etiquette rule on a forum such as MN?

OP posts:
LtEveDallas · 22/03/2014 11:41

Green for OP, pink for me and 'all on one thread' because I can't be arsed with pages. As said, makes it a lot easier.

(One of the best cases for RTFT I have ever seen was on the first couple of 'Malaysian airline disappearance' threads. Towards the middle of the first thread the question about mobile phone useage had been comprehensively answered. Posters who hadn't bothered to RTFT were still coming on, 500 posts later and two threads later to ask why no-one had used their mobile phones! I though the main contributors were going to explode Grin)

WottaTheOdds · 22/03/2014 11:48

Haven't read the whole thread but YABVVVVU

CountessOfRule · 22/03/2014 11:49

Green and pink, and all on one page.

I skim OP's post on sad or concerning threads to get past the reams of requests for updates.

EveryDaysAnAdventure · 22/03/2014 11:56

Purple for the OP, green for me

They are clearly the best colours Smile

Nanny0gg · 22/03/2014 12:27

Definitely green for the OP and pink for me. Nice and clear.

And the fewest number of pages. Much easier if you want to go back to a post.

Nanny0gg · 22/03/2014 12:28

Oh! Been back to check!

It's forest green and dark lavender!

Who knew?

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2014 12:33

I hope everyone is bookmarking too. Wink

AlpacaLypse · 22/03/2014 12:39

I think about 80% of us who are using highlighting are going for green OP and lilac for themselves.

And this post of course is a fine example of a thread turning into something completely differentSmile!

EduCated · 22/03/2014 12:40

Green for OP, lilac for me.

I don't always read every post on a thread, but I make sure to scan down to get a gist of it, read the OPs handily highlighted posts, and read the last few posts to check where the conversations got to.

My personal pet hate is people not realising how quickly threads in AIBU move. It's very easy to cross post/have about 50 posters post within 10 seconds of each other saying te same thing, but then people get jumped on for repeating the same thing 'uneccessarily'.

In fact, if I've been reading a very long thread, I'll refresh when I get to the end, as there can easily be a load more posts which change the direction in the time it's taken me to read/type out my post.

Aeroflotgirl · 22/03/2014 12:41

I only read the op and her posts, I do not have time to read 100+ posts, I don't know many who do

CountessOfRule · 22/03/2014 12:45

I'll point out that you can't highlight on the app, which also helpfully leaves large chunks out of the middle of long threads. I know, I know, I should use Mobile site... but that's even worse

ImaLooney · 22/03/2014 13:03

What is bookmarking sparkling I am not familiar with this

OP posts:
AlpacaLypse · 22/03/2014 13:05

If you hover the cursor over the bottom right of the most recent post, a little box 'bookmark' will appear. If you click on it, it will turn to 'saved!'

When you next visit that thread, you will automatically scroll to that point.

Nifty eh?

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2014 13:07

Looney when you are reading a thread if you take your cursor (laptop user) to the right hand side a little 'bookmark' wor appears. Click on it and next time you go back to the thread it will start where you left off IYKWIM.

You have to enable bookmarking first. That's either in customise or profile will go and look.....

Chocoholism · 22/03/2014 13:09

Can you do that on mobile site?

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2014 13:09

It's in Customise-down at the bottom.

Display bookmark links: Change from No to Yes.

Chocoholism · 22/03/2014 13:10

Btw I've changed nickname now :)

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2014 13:14

Not sure about the Mobile Site but would have thought so.

Tweasels · 22/03/2014 13:16

I would recommend the desktop site over the mobile site. And using either over the app. Using the app is a nightmare and you can't do any of the customising stuff.

Chocoholism · 22/03/2014 13:21

Ok I did it on mobile site thanks sparkling

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2014 13:23

Did I explain ok Choc? Saves you trying to find where you were up to.

Chocoholism · 22/03/2014 13:25

Yep found it straight away :)

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 22/03/2014 13:32

For me on the iPad if I have bookmarking turned on, it means I can't copy and paste from a post. Tis quite annoying if you want to quote from something a PP wrote.

I am purple for OP and lilac / pink for me, deffo all on one page. Didn't realise how yooneek I am Grin

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2014 13:41

That's a bit rubbish Hearts do MNHQ know?

EduCated · 22/03/2014 20:07

Are you sure, Hearts? I can do both Confused
