Swimming pool...

Hello following up from my last thread I had said I wanted to decorate the spare room into a gym, DH and I couldn't get to an agreement so left it. After thinking hard we thought of getting a swimming pool but we are not sure if the DC are too young. I just wanted to know if any of you have a pool and how much is it a month and maintenance and is it worth it.

In the spare room? wouldn't that be more like a plunge pool

I didn't see the last thread. Why is this in AIBU? And what do you need a new thread? And why are you assuming people a) know what's going on and b) are interested?
Is the swimming pool going in the spare room?

Don't know but if you do, and you live near me, please can I hire it to give swimming lessons in?

In terms of is it worth it, I would say yes. Kids will use it loads especially when friends come over.

How keen a swimmer are you and the rest of the family? I've had friends with pools in England and have not found it worth it IMO, better things to spend the money on - lots of holidays abroad to villas with pools, where the weather is more conducive to swimming. How often do you swim now and what's your local pool like? Home pools are usually small, so pretty shit for training in as it's just turn, tumble, turn, tumble, barely room to get a stroke in. So YABU to bother making a pool.

Why not get some weights, and just use the spare room to work out in? I think you'd get more use out of a gym personally. When I lived at my mum's I turned the library into a dance studio/gym and that was brilliant, and I could have friends over to train too. Now I'm living somewhere modest, on no money, I've turned one end of my bedroom into a dance/workout space, and much as I'd love to be able to swim every day I know that I get more use out of home gym area than I ever would a pool, plus it didn't cost anything, just the twenty minutes of my time taken to move furniture out...

My family and I swim a lot DC do galas and have 2/3 lessons a week. Our local pool is okay it can sometimes be very busy.

A home pool can only ever be a fun pool tho, like noodle says you can't train, if that's your standard, in a10m pool.

Anything less than 20m will make a decent swimmer sick, too many turns.

Why not look at endless pools, they're like a tank with a current.

You need to give information in your opening post, or, if it's carrying on from something earlier, then just carry on on that thread.

I recommend getting an indoor pool. Go ozone treated so its not so harsh.

Mostly used for socialising/fun/short laps rather than training though- but it 'grows' with the kids. You can have excellent parties.

Consider getting a decent sound system put in- it makes all the difference.

An adjoining shower room/changing room means you can wash straight away and there's no soggy feet/towels traipsing through your house.

Definitely look at infinity pools with a current to swim against if you want to do more than paddle/float. No idea on running costs but they can be fitted into a small space (even one lane width) and thus I'd imagine don't cost a fortune to heat

I think it would need to be something you really really want. I have heard that they can devalue a house due to the maintenance costs. Perhaps something to think about?
