to order a prom dress from an unheard of internet frock shop?

Because I just did.

Then thought - 'oh bugger, what have I done'.

However.... Non-dress wearing DD loves it and it was really rather cheap. And I had to strike while the iron was luke-warm and buy it there and then otherwise she'd change her mind and I'd have to take her shopping, the thought of which makes me cry a bit.

Is it ever going to get here? Will it fit? Will my card details be stole and my entire life savings of 37p be filched out of my bank account?

I order lots of stuff from different internet shops. Each time i mentally cross my fingers till the stuff turns up. So far - so good Grin (just ordered 50 quids worth of bracelet from a random in Cornwall ...)

Good luck OP.

fluffyraggies · 19/03/2014 19:07

Bracelet is a present for my DD. Wonder which will turn up first, your dress or my bracelet? Wink

TheWickerWoman · 19/03/2014 19:10

Where is it being shipped from? There's one in China that's notorious for ripping people off.

JodieGarberJacob · 19/03/2014 19:14

It's not the one that says 'Bargain prom dresses! Reduced from £395 to £80? Only dd3 is nagging me to buy one. I think it's an American company so I've refused because there's no returns and I can't trust the sizing!

Nocomet · 19/03/2014 19:16

I did (not China), they were very quick, but sent a totally different dress.

I swore a lot, because they weren't free returns.
However, DD tried it on and loved it.

Also it's since appeared on their web site for £30 more than I paid.

AtYourCervix · 19/03/2014 19:18

missydress.co.uk.

we shall see. I've put the occasion date in a good 4 weeks before the actual date so there's plenty of time if it doesn't appear or if it is shit. and - very reasonably priced compared with shop bought ones and made to measure rather than off the peg.

I ordered a posh ball dress from eBay and was a bit wary as it was being shipped from China. It came so quickly and was just as described, I was very impressed! The only issue was losing a few pounds to fit into it...

Fairyliz · 19/03/2014 20:20

my daughters both had prom dresses from China via ebay costing about £35 each. I was a bit worried but they were fab, real 'princess' dresses. they also laced up the back so you could get a good fit.

BornLippy · 19/03/2014 20:52

Just did a quick google, as I always do when I'm wary of a site and found this www.webutations.org/go/review/missydress.co.uk

Doesn't sound great, but at least the dresses do seem to have arrived! Also in the FAQ's the English is a bit poor which always rings alarm bells to me.

JodieGarberJacob · 19/03/2014 20:55

Oops! That is the company that dd wants her dress from! What put me off was the fact that you can't return it if it doesn't fit. Also I hate companies that are co.uk and when you look closely obviously aren't. They do look lovely dresses though.

AtYourCervix · 19/03/2014 21:06

well. I read the bit about returns if custom made and also import costs. so forewarned I suppose. If it is crap it's not the end of the world as not massively £££.

she's quite likely to wear jeans anyway.

Not a dress, but dd wanted a tuxedo type black jacket to go with a dress for a party.

We searched and found one. It seemed to be a French site (we live in France) we checked her measurements and ordered the correct size - using their measurements to get the right size.

I paid extra for express delivery - for returns you had to get a return number. Jacket arrived - it should have been for a 102cm bust. It would fit an average-sized 3-year old.

Asked for return number stating the problem. 2 months ago. Not heard a dicky bird.

PigletJohn · 19/03/2014 21:26

how did you pay?

AtYourCervix · 19/03/2014 21:41

debit card.

I wouldn't expect fabulous quality for the price. If it arrives and she wears it great. if not, then it's irritating but not the end of the world and better than if I paid £400+ for it.

I used a similar shop for my wedding dress and it was brilliant!!! Not to mention a fraction of the cost!

iggymama · 19/03/2014 21:55

Wicker woman is the Chinese site light in the box?

I have seen curtains on there that I would love to buy but reviews of wedding/prom type stuff rings alarm bells.

TheWickerWoman · 19/03/2014 22:25

The one I know of is called dresses online. Although, strangely, I have read the review that's linked above us too.. Just can't remember why. Maybe I just stumbled across it when looking for a prom dress.

mrsjay · 19/03/2014 22:27

I bought a lovely made to measure dress from light in the box. They certainly exceeded expectations. Never heard of this company though. Hope the dress arrives on time and is perfect for your daughter.

Cooroo · 03/09/2014 07:21

My DD bought a £35 dress from china for her prom too. I was really proud of her (and relieved as couldn't have afforded hundreds f £s!)
