To not get no make-up nomination?

Everyone knows what neknomination is, and now no make-up nomination is doing the rounds.

Whilst I think it's good to be confident to post a photo of your completely bare and natural face.

The purpose is it to raise awareness of cancer. Which I can't for the life of me see how this does.

Aibu to just not get the point of it?

YANBU - and here I quote my friend who has experienced and survived aggressive breast cancer;

"Please refrain from posting nomakeupnominations or photos of you in your underwear. It does not promote cancer awareness, it promotes your narcissism. And I can tell you first hand that seeing pictures like these when you're nearly bald still from chemo, have no eye brows or lashes, have spotty chemo skin and have either had your breasts cut off or had them cut into....does not make us feel 'supported' or raise any kind of awareness except that of your chest size and how butchered we are. Do something that makes a difference: donate to Cancer Research"

It is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month - in response to these ridiculous posts please share the common signs of ovarian cancer, signs which people are not always aware of;

Persistent bloating
Persistent pelvic and abdominal pain
Difficulty eating and becoming full quickly

If I'd understood these were the symptoms of ovarian cancer a few years ago I might not have been stage 3 by the time I was diagnosed.

Sharing these signs rather than your unmake-upped face could literally save someone's life.

people keep saying its for breast cancer but my face has nothing to do with my breasts and i really am not showing those on facebook

I get that it's a bit of fun and people can do as they please but let's not pretend it's actually doing anything beneficial. If much rather people donate a quid or even 50p to cancer research or Macmillan. Then maybe I wouldn't have to wait 3 months for a referal to the lymphodema clinic bitter

Anyone who knows my in real life, would actually do better to send me a nomination of a pic with me wearing makeup as I maybe do it only once of twice a year. The last time, my 11 year old did it for me.

I do feel sorry for anyone who can't go out without makeup and hair styled.

To be honest I don't get it myself , saying that my Facebook page is getting full of these nominations so much so il put a few pennies In a jar tomorrow when I see one. Maybe it reminds people to donate??

My facebook feed is full of this shite. Why do we need to "raise cancer awareness" as if anyone doesn't know that cancer exists? What the fuck has it got to do with makeup? Confused

I doubt it reminds anyone to donate. It more likely replaces the need to donate because people feel they've 'done their bit'. However all they've done is post a photo of themselves on Facebook and felt a bit smug about it. They seem to be the only one who benefits from this.

No need to feel sorry for people who choose to wear make-up.

I've just posted this to my Facebook status:

"I don't wear make up, so I'm not going to be posting a photo of myself. What I am going to do is say this: You know your own body. If something doesn't feel right, it's far better to go and see your doctor, get checked out, and either rule things out or catch them early. Whether it be a lump somewhere, a cough, or something else, it's better to be safe than sorry."

I've done this because, if my granddad had been more persistent in going to the doctors, the mass in his lung might've been discovered before he got ill with something else and passed away.

The thing is, I think these sort of things can end up causing hurt to people, not intentionally, of course, but I know I'm finding it hard seeing all these pictures when my granddad died from "disseminated thoracic malignancy". We're all well aware of cancer - why do we need things like this?

Far better to raise awareness of signs/symptoms etc and emphasise the importance of catching it early IMHO.

Ive just seen a few pics of friends FB pages accompanied by comments 'oh you're beautiful without makeup, you look so young, you look so good'. Hardly the point, is it? Bloody irritating

I've just seen this and it's annoyed me. It's using cancer awareness as an excuse to show off basically, and fish for compliments about how naturally beautiful/young/how they don't even need make up.

It's really quite vile when you think about it. Who invents these things!

I've posted a picture of myself so yes, actually I think you are all being a bit unreasonable. Okay so posting a picture may not "do" an awful lot but it shows that there are people out there who want to band together with their friends & show some solidarity (a few of mine who have had cancer have posted their pictures too). Before anyone gets on their high horses about simply donating instead, in the last 5 years before my son was born I ran Race For Life every year & raised nearly £2,000 to help in the fight for cancer so I think I've done my bit.

Also to the person choosing to unfriend someone over a silly picture, get over yourself!! You clearly can't like the person very much to begin with if you'll unfriend them for something as pathetic as a picture.
