As your blood may have boiled up reading that title, why not donate some of it? - www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-26577766

I've been this week and have a lovely bruise to show from it. It was handy actually, they had a mobile clinic set up at the gym and I could just drop in, much easier then the local centre and their appointment system.

AgentProvocateur · 16/03/2014 12:46

Ha ha - great title!

I donated my o Rh negative blood last week

nickelbabe · 16/03/2014 12:46

notapizzaeater you won't be able to give blood whilst on iron tablets.

EverythingsDozy · 16/03/2014 12:46

Thank you nickelbabe. I will definitely go and, at least, attempt to donate! Knowing me, I will come out looking like a pin cushion...

LauraAshleyDuvetCover · 16/03/2014 12:47

Actually, I have a question and somebody might know.

Can you move between the Scottish and English and Welsh systems easily, or would I need to re-register? I'd have to leave eight months between donations if I don't, so would rather donate in the other system, but will the paperwork be a nightmare?

you'd need to ring them.Laura

trainersandaches · 16/03/2014 12:50

I can give again as of next month - had a piercing before Christmas and I can't donate until four months afterwards. Great bait!

Cookiepants · 16/03/2014 12:51

Regular donor just running down my time after baby Grin. I have common as muck A+ though.

gordyslovesheep · 16/03/2014 13:00

A- regular donor - booked in for next month already

if you don't give blood please think about it - it's very straight forward and you get biscuits

notapizzaeater · 16/03/2014 13:35

Thank you nickelbaby - will ring them and cancel my appointment so,someone else can have it.

HadABadDay2014 · 16/03/2014 13:56

Can't as I have recently donated :)

ProlificPenguin · 16/03/2014 14:02

I am a regulalr donor, Have been for years. I called the day after I received my letter inviting me to donate and the session was full. No bookings being taken and not allowing any walk ins, my appointment was made for next event in May. Could I suggest that if the stock is so low they put on extra sessions?

DMCWelshCakes · 16/03/2014 14:11

Well played, Giraffes, well played. Grin

Regular O neg donor here!

GreenLandsOfHome · 16/03/2014 14:13

I'm not allowed to donate because I had two blood transfusions after having dc1. Which writes me out forever now.

I was a regular donor before.

Also, another Scottish/English question here, why can I donate every twelve weeks in Scotland but only every sixteen in England?

feathermucker · 16/03/2014 14:57

Do it whenever I can Grin

DulcetMoans · 16/03/2014 15:03

Bumping for you too.

I've been rejected as of last week so my new challenge is to get others to go instead. Got two people at work booked for May so just got to get them to keep the promise and there will be two donations in place of my one!

Never quite made it to my 10 donations either because of splitting between English and Welsh blood services... :(

LittleMissDisorganized · 16/03/2014 15:04

Well done giraffes! I had 18 units of blood during a very serious illness i. 2012 and I am indebted to those O neg and B neg individuals for their generosity.

Please give if you can.

isitme1 · 16/03/2014 15:13

Just a little bump

HollyWhiteAlwaysWearsAHat · 16/03/2014 15:15

Oooh you clever woman. Wink

BreconBeBuggered · 16/03/2014 15:16

I wondered that about the gap too, Laura. 12 weeks is somehow easier to keep track of than 16. I could donate now, but have to wait until April here. Don't like the appointment system either. It never seems to lead to any less of a queue.

For the poster who asked about transferring between English/Scottish/Welsh systems, it sort of works. You can donate immediately anyway. They've probably got better records over the years, but I've had 2/3 bronze badges awarded before finally getting to silver. As long as you're not too worried about that kind of thing, there shouldn't be a problem.

goldenlula · 16/03/2014 15:17

Ok, a little question (thick I know and yes I could Google but as this thread was here I thought I would ask). How do you go about finding out if I am able to donate? I have a minor liver condition (imbalance in bilirubins). Have looked it up before but no conclusive answer so would they tell me at the donor clinic?
