Can anyone tell me how many times a phone can be repaired before they have to give you a new one.

My phone just come back from repair still in the same state it went in! not working. The shop I bought it from was useless they sent it off first time, it came back not working so they suggested I sent it to Nokia myself which I have. Its now booked in for third repair, its still under warranty.

This leaves me without my phone again for several weeks which is irritating.
Im on a contract with orange but bought the phone outright! wish I hadn't now.

I thought that by now surely this phone is not fit for purpose they obviously cant mend it, what rights do I have?
ee shop manager did write me letter to send to nokia the first time but said that he could do no more, and he could not replace the phone.

How long have you had the phone

since last August

I had issues with it within months I took it into the shop and one of the young assistants just took the back off no easy task on the nokia and took battery out, put it back in and switched it back on, made me feel very stupid, and said there you are its working now!

There is only so many times you can get the back off to get a phone to work, this method doesn't work anymore either, its died completely now.

Your contract is with the retailer so go back to them and start quoting the sale of goods act and mention reporting them to trading standards. It is up to the retailer to choose whether to repair or replace the phone but they do have to do something. They could offer you a refund less reasonable defuctions for the time you have had it. Do not let them tell you to deal with nokia directly.

I'm probably in a minority but I've never had this problem because I hardly ever use my mobile phone. It's just for emergencies and the number is held by very few people and only because I've used it to contact them.

I use a landline for any calls I make or receive otherwise .................

I had a problem with my television remote control, checked the batteries, pressing here and there and it worked. I didn't have to put new batteries in. I'm not saying that the Op's prolem was simple but, sometimes, it can be. Daren't ask if it was plugged and switched on.

I tried the sale of goods act thing last time, manager said that there was nothing he could do as he didn't have the authority to sanction a new phone.
Battery been replaced first time apparently, Im not convinced it was, I have tried different chargers etc, and each time it comes back the paperwork says its working.

take it back and tell them you wont be leaving untill y ou have a new phone in your hands!

what shop was it?

If the manager is refusing to repair it or is claiming to but not doing so then report them to trading standards.

Complaining to customer services via social media ie twitter or Facebook can also get results

I had a very similar problem, with Orange, and it took months to sort. Three times it was in for repair, and on one occasion I cried in the shop because the woman serving was so rude to me

Eventually the phone repair place they'd sent it to decided enough was enough on my behalf, and sent me a new phone. Orange were worse than useless and I left them as soon as my contract finished

This is orange and the ee shop, I cant understand how they are getting away with this, I will try the shop again tomorrow.

That's a good idea about twitter and fb.

threaten them with trading standards and go to trading standards if necessary....
