To expect a professional cleaning company to give me some idea how many hours?

Hve been talking about getting cleaners for years, finally talked myself into it. Sent off my list of jobs plus size of house and they won't give me any indication of how many hours it may take...ball park even.
I could prob afford five hours for two cleaners....but what if they went beyond that I would feel screwed. They are very hard to communicate with not very friendly or forthcoming but the only company in my area.
What would ye do?.

I would expect them to come round, discuss requirements and then give a quote based on how much cleaning you want to be done.

I would think ten hours cleaning a week means you have a large home and have quite a lot that you want to be done.

how long does it take you to do all those jobs? There's your answer.

I have a 4 bed, 3 bath house. Cleaner hoovers throughout, dusts throughout, cleans bathrooms and kitchen, mops floors - 3 hours.

I have an average size home and this would b the initial clean and then mayb they could come bk every second week. I hve been ill for quite a while so this is a big deal to me and something I want to go well not something else to stress me out and rip me off..

Good idea to see will the come first for a look around and quote then. I would b afraid they would take advantage and b here for ten hours type thing..

I used to run my own cleaning business. Minimum was two hours. This covers almost all normal houses. Generally I did 2-3 beds in that time. Biggest had seven bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. It was beautiful and took four hours. Hope that helps.

I would ask them to come for x hours, x being what you can afford and getting them to start cleaning the bits which irritate you the most, then moving to the next area etc until their time is up. That will give you an idea for the next time, if you decide to do it again.

I personally hate cleaning, but I also hate paying out good money for a job I could do better, quicker, and to my liking. I prefer to clean the house myself (when it really gets bad!) and use the money to pay for a takeaway.... I use the time I've saved by not cooking to do the cleaning.

It might be cheaper for you to use a cleaner recommended by a friend or neighbour.

Alternatively, you can also check this website. I have not used it so cannot recommend it but it is worth checking if they have cleaners in your area.

I'm sure it's very trivial to some but it's important to me. I would be devastated if I got stuck with a bill for 300 pounds or something. Have had quite a few knocks recently so I'm very wary about things.

There's a company I used to use called time for you. They are nationwide so may be one close. They come out and look at your house and give realistic timings. The use vetted cleaners. They are a bit costly. At the time it was 6-10 per hour and every three months there was an 80 quid 'insurance' fee. Possibly another fee too. After the contract is up tho you can poach the cleaner and get her without paying their fee

Hi there - I don't blame you OP and am surprised they don't want to come round before quoting tbh.

I remember Kim & Aggie saying a regular clean of your house, including bathroom, takes as many hours as you have bedrooms. I've found that to be case for 2 and 3 bedroom houses.

Get two or three quotes and decide from there.
