Sorry need hand holding having panic

Not sure where else to post.

On way to hospital from London DS18 months has fallen down 10 stairs at nursery banged his head. Dad now with him at a and e.

He didn't lose consciousness hasn't been sick and while quiet is still responding. Big bump on forehead. How worried should I be?

He's 4th you'd think is be used to it but none of them
have ever hurt head like this and it terrifies me

He's in the best place, they will monitor him closely.

Deep breaths and try to stay calm, easier said than done, I know.

Of course you are worried and panicking.

Nursery have done the right thing. His dad is with him. Ds is probably quiet because he doesn't know quite what's going on!

My dd did the same at home at roughly the same age. She was all ok.

You may well find that by the time you get to the hospital, your ds will be almost ready to go home.

Babies heads are made to withstand lots of bangs or the human race would die out! It is so rare for a child to be seriously hurt and as no loss of consciousness or sickness then good signs. He is in best place and try not to worry. My DD fell down 17!! stairs, carpeted so not so bad, at 10 months. BIG bump...but she was ok. Accidents happen and humans are amazing at surviving most of them. I used to joke that I had a named chair in A & E what with 3 very active, confident little Monkeys. Good luck and lots of cuddles when they get home.x

Bumps which swell are better than indents according to my doc. Poor you!

Not sure nursery did so right thing. He was going down the stairs himself at 18 months. Really steep stairs with one member of staff at top and one at bottom. Over 20 stairs.When we teach him at home one of us right behind him. Then when try called and I explained that we were both over hour away I had to beg them to get him to a and e rather than waiting for us.
Poor baby has been in half of week with wheezy chest too. My nerves are frayed.

Mine have had a few bumps to their heads over the years, and it's always a worry.

By the time you get there he will probably be his usual happy, smiley self, and you will wonder why you were so worried.

Hand hold here. I'd panic too in the same situation (I've definitely panicked for less!) but he's being treated and they'll monitor him very closely especially given his age.

to be honest I wouldn't have taken mine to a&e if there was no loss of consciousness, sickness, dizziness etc. and if there is a big lump all the better, it means the swelling has pushed out rather than pushing in. I'm sure he will be completely fine. try not to worry, as hard as it is.

As an x childrens nurse, a CM, nanny and Mother I am slightly aghast at an 18mth old going down such a big flight of stairs on their own! I am in no way a worrier but have ALWAYS been just behind DC/charges on stairs. Always. My DDs accident was caused by someone not shutting stairgate properly in our flat.(I still feel guilt). I really think they need to look at this. Glad your DS getting seen to. And meant to say that I am mentally holding your hand and giving virtual hugs.

It was the mechanics of injury that made us go to a and e ;height of child v height of fall ratio is a standard indicator for hospital attendance.

Been checked all ok so far.
