To go to pilates with a cough when teacher has a newborn?

Our household has had a cough. Dd2 brought it home from daycare and we've all had it in sequence. Am on second course of antibiotics and feel fine. Just coughing. None of us had any nasal congestion. GP says it's bronchitis and not catching any more.

Last year I lost quite a bit of weight. I exercise most days but can't do cardio at the mo because of shortness of breath. So I've been going to pilates a lot so that I'm doing something. It's important to me.

The classes are at 6am so the cough sounds pretty rubbish as they do in the mornings.

On Monday, the teacher had a cough and openly blamed catching it on me. She then announced to the class that she hopes her 4 month old doesn't get "Gert's cough".

Was IBU to keep going to classes? I knew she had a baby but didn't really think about it in connection with me attending, since I felt well in myself. If I had thought about it I might have considered that if you have a job dealing with people then you have to accept they might give you colds and coughs. And also she could have caught the cough from anyone. Obviously I don't want her baby to get sick either. I haven't been to a class since but I'd like to. WIBU?

She is being vvvvvvvu.

You were not.

Ywnbu, and the teacher was rude and unprofessional.

She is - it's a cough, not the plague or TB.

Did you tell her that the gp had confirmed that you were no longer contagious?

If she's breastfeeding the baby will likely not catch her cough anyway.

Oh and well done you for getting yourself to a class at 6am!

If it's not catching then she can't have caught it from you & you should have told her.

Whether or not it's irritating for someone to be constantly coughing (if that's the case) throughout a pilates session is another matter.

GP told me it wasn't catching later that day when I went back to get the repeat prescription for antibiotics. So I didn't tell her. Also, it being 6am, it's as much as I can do to follow instructions as I'm still waking up.

Perhaps I should call up to reassure her.

diddl you're right about it being irritating. I hadn't even thought Blush

I'll keep away until it's better in any case. Thank you.

I think possibly you were being unreasonable to go to the class before it was confirmed that you weren't contagious.

I'm just recovering from the flu and I only started going out again once my cough was one in half an hour( ish) I'd hate to give it to anyone else and coughing is the perfect way to spread germs.
