AIBU to not understand the fuss about Cheryl Cole?

Apparently Cheryl is returning to X Factor. It's on the front page of today's Sun newspaper, you'd never think that there were more important things going on in the world like a plane with over 200 people on board still being missing or all the trouble between Russia and the Ukraine

I have never got the fuss over this pointless woman. She can't sing for toffee and has an assault conviction which she's never shown an ounce of remorse for as far as I'm aware, in fact the whole thing has conveniently been airbrushed out of her backstory.

A few years ago during the peak of her popularity I updated my FB status to say that I couldn't see the fuss about her, that I thought she fake, that she couldn't sing and I was sick of having her rammed down my throat. From the many responses I received you'd have sworn I'd murdered someone. I was told I was a "hater" that I was "just jealous" and one person even said that they were "shocked and disgusted" by comments. I was unfriended by some people and was the subject of many passive aggressive status updates saying how wonderful Cheryl was and that she should "ignore the haters" obviously referring to me....

The hold she has over some is just bizarre. Maybe she's like the Demon Headmaster or something and has hypnotic powers that many fall for but others not?

I just don't get it, at all? AIBU?

I seriously cannot believe you used someone getting battered as a dig against them.

She's also been a batterer; we know of the toilet attendant at least.
She has also defended Chris brown for his violence against Rhianna and her own memoirs speak of her violence towards men.
www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2217060/A-study-self-delusion-Cheryl-Coles-memoirs-seek-reinvent-sophisticated-divorcee-whos-X-Factor-sacking-her.html
Sorry, but whether she had an ex who was violent or not, I cannot put her in the same category of other survivors of domestic abuse.
If that makes me disgusting then so be it.

Impatientismymiddlename · 11/03/2014 14:44

Looks like I am wrong anyway and she was the one beating the junkie boyfriend.
A real shining example of a national treasure Hmm

MichaelFinnigan · 11/03/2014 16:42

the sister lived in a council house with so many kids by so many men, hair scraped back in a ponytail, multiple ear piercings, tracksuit etc etc basically making out she was a chav

There but got the grace of god goes chezza

How do they do those teeth?

Are her old teeth underneath? They can't be or she'd be double toothed, so have they been removed?

That's a weird (and certainly not exclusive to Biffa (thanks for that) I accept) sign o' the times

Like in ye olden days when ladies would have their teeth removed for their 21st birthday, or foot binding. Such a destructive thing to do to perfectly good bits of your body Confused

squoosh · 11/03/2014 16:54

They file the teeth down to nubs and then put the new teeth over them. It gives me the creeps to think about.

Nancy66 · 11/03/2014 17:22

veneers aren't like crowns. with crowns they file the old tooth down to a stub but not so with veneers.

Impatientismymiddlename · 11/03/2014 17:25

Finnigan- was Vicky pollard modelled on chezzas sister?

MichaelFinnigan · 11/03/2014 17:25

So with a veneer a new tooth is stuck to the old? So is the resulting tooth really thick in cross section?

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2014 17:34

Ive often wondered this? And do yiu take them off to clean your teeth? If not, ddon't they just rot underneath?

Impatientismymiddlename · 11/03/2014 17:35

No, they file the original teeth down a little just not nearly as much as they do for crowns. People can have terrible problems with veneers. Katie price had terrible pain with hers (I know she is a drama queen anyway), but they can make the teeth very very sensitive and they don't last forever.

Impatientismymiddlename · 11/03/2014 17:36

They can rot underneath, just like with crowns.

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/03/2014 18:21

She's incredibly pretty. Even in that old photo somebody posted when not groomed to within an inch of her life.

She has a charming accent and when she remembers to be (which is almost all the time) she is quite charming.

However the mask does slip on occasion and we're all reminded she is still that girl who assaulted a toilet attendant underneath it all.

GoshAnneGorilla · 11/03/2014 18:33

Both Nicole Scherzinger and Tulisa could outsing Chezza without breaking sweat.

Also after Cheryl's terrible performance in the Brits, I'm amazed anyone takes her seriously.

If someone is a singer, then excpeting them to be able to perform live surely isn't too much to ask.

It's sad because we have plenty of talented singers in this country. Why can't the likes of Estelle or Terri Walker enjoy the sort of fame Cheryl does?

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 11/03/2014 19:00

Tulisa. Cripes.

There's another one.

TeaAndALemonTart · 11/03/2014 19:08

Not a fan, and the arse tattoo is tragic.

songlark · 11/03/2014 19:13

I don't even think she's beautiful, pretty in a hard faced kind of way....but when you think of real beauty's such as Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot you see the difference. Not in the same league....Apart from that real beauty shines from within, hardly the case with Cheryl Cole.

Animation · 11/03/2014 19:15

I thought she was very good on X Factor and I admired the way she stood up to Cowell.

Animation · 11/03/2014 19:17

She's pretty as well.

wannabestressfree · 11/03/2014 19:40

She no more had 'an illness' than I have had it......
Think Columbian marching powder and a visit to something that sounds like 'bee rab'

kennyp · 11/03/2014 19:51

it was ian hyland (tv critic - news of the world, then the sunday daily mail, now the sunday mirror) who coined the expression "biffa" cole.

i couldn't give two hoots about the x factor. i think it's over-produced bollocks. although obviously simon cowel et al speak highly of me though xxx

Odaat · 11/03/2014 19:59

She is very pretty ... Um, thats it :/

treaclesoda · 11/03/2014 20:20

you mean the malaria thing?

I'm so naive, it's never occurred to me that someone would lie about something like that, and weirdly I tend to be quite cynical usually! Although I did wonder at the speed of her apparent recovery. Do you think that she didn't really have it?

Dubjackeen · 11/03/2014 20:41

Not sure what happened there, it should have read ' was vile when the band was being formed', but she could have bad gas too for all I know
Hope she didn't have it while getting the arse tattoo Grin

BumPotato · 11/03/2014 20:57

kennyp Biffa was/is used by a good few of the comedians also, I don't think it is an Ian Hyland original.

NeonMuffin · 12/03/2014 10:29

Nicole Sherzinger is amazingly talented voice wise and is wasted singing the guff that she usually does.. If you don't believe me go on YouTube and look up the clip of her singing The Phantom of the Opera live at the Royal Variety Show. She really nails it.

As much as it pains me to say Tulisa also has a really good singing voice. I think Simon hoped to do the same thing with Tulisa that he did with Cheryl. Pick a rough diamond and turn her into"the nations sweetheart". Didn't work though sadly.
