AIBU to not understand the fuss about Cheryl Cole?

Apparently Cheryl is returning to X Factor. It's on the front page of today's Sun newspaper, you'd never think that there were more important things going on in the world like a plane with over 200 people on board still being missing or all the trouble between Russia and the Ukraine

I have never got the fuss over this pointless woman. She can't sing for toffee and has an assault conviction which she's never shown an ounce of remorse for as far as I'm aware, in fact the whole thing has conveniently been airbrushed out of her backstory.

A few years ago during the peak of her popularity I updated my FB status to say that I couldn't see the fuss about her, that I thought she fake, that she couldn't sing and I was sick of having her rammed down my throat. From the many responses I received you'd have sworn I'd murdered someone. I was told I was a "hater" that I was "just jealous" and one person even said that they were "shocked and disgusted" by comments. I was unfriended by some people and was the subject of many passive aggressive status updates saying how wonderful Cheryl was and that she should "ignore the haters" obviously referring to me....

The hold she has over some is just bizarre. Maybe she's like the Demon Headmaster or something and has hypnotic powers that many fall for but others not?

I just don't get it, at all? AIBU?

Neon I think in the world of showbusiness you are deemed positively ancient if you are over about 25 years of age, so Dannii Minogue is probably considered to be on a par with trotting out some 90 year old. Dannii Minogue is a very attractive looking woman, but that extra 'i' on the end of her name has aggravated me since she burst onto the scene as the teenage goth in Home and Away 25 years ago.

Can't join in with any FB malarkey. I don't have it. I thought you could put what's on your mind on there?

I imagine she is actually a pretty nice person inside as well as she has a close relationship with two of the girls from her old band and seems to be quite a girls girl.

I just think in terms of huge discernible talent then she is certainly not up there with Barbara Streisand and Whitney Houston and I don't think she will be winning an Oscar anytime soon but people on a Saturday night obviously enjoy looking at a very pretty face and I think like the chemistry between her and Cowell (probably only there because he never managed to dip his wick).

It's harmless really.

I'd like to banish Cheryl to room 101 along with Simon Cowell, Carol Vorderman and Ellie Goulding's stylist.

Sparkling bless you, you're so innocent. Have you not seen the threads in AIBU? It doesn't matter what you post as your status on facebook, there will be someone who is offended by it. And if you post nothing, there will be people who are offended by that as well, because then you are one of those awful people who is on facebook but doesn't post anything, therefore in some people'e eyes you are a stalker/nosey.

Facebook is one of those things where you really can't do anything right. Ever.

I am with you on EG's stylist Chipped but not EG herself. She is fabulous and could probably do a better job than Biffa Cole on the panel. Unfortunately she is touring the world though. Shame.

why are you dedicating so much time to thinking and typing about her if you don't like her? just ignore it all.

I think she used to be beautiful, but something changed in her during the X factor hype. Her face looks so greasy with make up, it makes my pores itch.

I'm sure she's a nice person but who cares?

I'm a Shazza fan myself. That's a woman who knows how best to spend her money.

I think she's fairly talentless and has the worst shittoos in the history of the modern world. I don't hate her tho. She does have a certain "rough diamond" charm.

And she is very very pretty- with or without the airbrush.

I think she's gorgeous and comes across as a 'real' person...she speaks her mind and I like that. I don't think she's especially talented but she has charisma I think.

There's is something about her though, I don't particularly like her it have any interest in her but when I see her on tv there's something about her that makes me keep watching?? Of course she's bautifull but its more than that. Really who cares, she's making lots of money and who can blame her???

The Facebook thing was when she was at the peak of her fame. I was quite shocked about it to be honest as it's just my own personal view at the end of the day, but it most certainly did happen.

She's made a little go a long way I agree but she is also a woman who has just (re) landed an incredibly high paying job and that is worth celebrating.

that selfie was ridiculous are they just selling selfies all over the place now , I dont get it either but i stopped watching x factor 3 years ago so I wont be watching her ,

she is a convicted criminal who isn't very good at her job, but still gets paid a lot for it.

She is seen as a National Treasure because she's an ordinary (although v pretty) girl who has lived her dream and because she gets emotional in public.

That, in a nutshell is what seems to appeal to the UK public... I am not saying they are right!

She was 19 years old and drunk when she had the nightclub altercation. Not condoning it but she has served her sentence and it was over ten years ago. Is she forever more going to be judged on a single drunken mistake she made as a teenager?

But haven't most people been 19 years old and drunk without assaulting someone? I'm not saying she should never be allowed to work again, or appear on tv or continue leading her life, because yes, she has served her sentence and justice was done. But on the other hand, if she didn't want people to remember her as 'that woman who assaulted someone in a toilet' she could always just have not assaulted someone in a toilet.

She called a toilet attendant a 'black bitch' and punched her really hard the eye. the dispute was about some lollipops.

I don't remember getting drunk and punching someone at 19. I was an adult.

She's extremely pretty - a real looker, and she can sing a bit as well. To say she can't sing isn't accurate - yes she can.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a fan of hers...or of Girls Aloud, or any of their manufactured pop garbage....but she can hold a note.
