WIBU to phone the police?

welshnat · 11/03/2014 02:37

Apologies if this is a duplicate but I jut wrote a AIBU and it doesn't seem to have posted.

It's just myself and my 2yo in the house at the moment. I was fast asleep about 2 this morning when I heard 3 massive bangs on my back door - plastic part not glass part. It honestly sounded like someone was using a hammer.

I stayed in bed for 10 minutes absolutely petrified and finally get the courage to go as look out the windows so see if anyone wa there. Couldn't see anybody outside the front or back of my house.

Now my garden is very easy to get into, no side gate, just walk down the side of my house and you're there. It's far off the main road, so nobody just wandering past doing it for fun.

So should I phone the police or would they think I'm wasting their time? I just don't want to wake up in the morning and find out that someone else's house has actually been broken into.

Hope your ok OP Thanks

It won't be long untill its light out, you just keep snuggling ds untill then. And don't ever be worried about ringing 101 (or even 999 in some cases).

welshnat · 11/03/2014 04:47

Yes back in bed with tea and my mobile. The police said nothing about marks on the door.

DS is in crèche tomorrow afternoon so hopefully can last until then for a nap. It's really made me think what I would do if someone actually broke in - and the answer is I have no bloody idea!! May ask my dad to stay over tomorrow night just so I feel a bit safer.

Hope you're ok op Brew

MusicalEndorphins · 11/03/2014 05:14

Oh boy, I am surprised they returned. (The door banger) Good idea about getting a security light. Are you in a position to have a dog?

welshnat · 11/03/2014 05:25

That's what scared me the most....that they can back twice!

As much as I would love it's not possible in the house I have now plus planning in returning to full time work, so would be very selfish.

Will look into a motion light and extra locks for my doors.

Meant not possible to have a dog Hmm not sure where that bit went.

Hi. Where do you live? Just interested by username don't want you house number and postcode Wink
Anyway.. This is meant to be reassuring so I hope I don't terrify you.. if you have a upvc door on badly made or budget ones the panels can sometimes be easy to remove. But not on all. I know this as I locked myself out once and tried every way to enter my house before I parted with over 100 quid for a locksmith.. a local boy 'helpfully' suggested I could do this. . It wouldn't budge.
so it may have been a chancer..
also another reason I asked where you live is that my police force (south wales) did actually send out 2 pcso s to assess security and weak points around my home. This was a few years ago mind you.
Hope you are ok

welshnat · 11/03/2014 09:18

Hi Jupiter I live in South Wales too Smile so it was South Wales police who came out last night. I will call in to the local station when I'm passing this week and ask about the security check. Thanks for that Grin

Good grief, just saw this. I am so sorry you had another scare, but I'm really glad police turned up and dealt with it properly. Good luck with the security check, lights, etc.

I just learned that you can get security lights that run on batteries, so you don't have to mess around with wiring. I thought that was nice, much less daunting to install.

bubblegoose · 11/03/2014 12:23

Oh my goodness, just seen this. You poor thing, OP. Hope you are ok and you catch up on some sleep today.

welshnat · 11/03/2014 19:32

My father is staying over tonight and I will be looking at battery operate motion lights tomorrow. It seems like we may have an idea of who's been doing it. He's had trouble with my father but none with me. He actually came up to me in the shop and asked what happened last night (seen on fb) and whether I had seen who it was. All with a smirk on his face.

So now I am a lot less scared and a lot more pissed off! Cricket bat ready at the side of my bed and father asleep on sofa Smile so if there's any repeats were ready and 999 will be rung!

Can you drop something non-injury forming out of a window over that point in your house. I'm thinking of something like urine water rather than anything that you'd get in trouble for causing a head injury.

Or a supersoaker so you can aim from a window further along.

And then shout 'oh sorry I thought it was a neighbourhood cat' to excuse yourself.

Joules68 · 11/03/2014 19:47

Foxes can do this kind of thing op, can make a racket bundling into doors whilst scavaging around

CSIJanner · 11/03/2014 19:53

Is the 2yo still in nappies? Pelt the bugger with them if he comes back. Did you let the police know? There might not be evidence, but that can give some rather stern advisory words

SometimesLonely · 11/03/2014 20:18

You don't need to give out your address if you are calling emergency services from a landline. The telephone number is visible on a screen there. It's not a new thing. Our son was doing a paper round 30 years ago and thought he saw a fire. He came home and told us so we reported it, and he reported where he had seen it. We finished up with a fire engine outside and firemen at the front door, traced simply by our telephone number because they couldn't find a fire.

Our son went off with them to show them what he'd seen but it turned out that what he thought he'd seen was some sort of reflection or other. They were pleased that he'd contacted emergency services though.

welshnat · 12/03/2014 00:09

It just happened again Confused literally ten minutes after I went to bed. I left all of the lights on but it still happened. My dad is now going I sleep downstairs so he can look out the window quicker if it happens again.

Will phone 101 in the morning to let them know.

Flossyfloof · 12/03/2014 00:15

I am no weakling but I would be phoning 999 by now. Not that I am trying to scare you but it is what the Police are for. If you think you have a name give it to them. Glad you have support but how scary for you.

charmschool · 12/03/2014 00:17

Can you go to a boatyard and get an aerosol klaxon thing? These are emergency noise makers and make a huuuuuuuuuuge sound. That should scare the bugger off.

Failing that, watch Home Alone and leave booby traps for the sod.

Oh, and don't put anything else on facebook. Maybe he came back to provoke you into posting new items so that he can get off on the notoriety xxxx

aufaniae · 12/03/2014 00:18

Yes, ring the police now, don't wait till the morning, especially if you know who it is.

NotALondoner · 12/03/2014 00:19

Just call 999. They are paid to sort out stuff like this, you are not disturbing them.

aufaniae · 12/03/2014 00:20

That is what the police are there for, please din't worry about wasting police time, you're absolutely not.

BillyBanter · 12/03/2014 00:20

Phone 999 now. Also tell them about the 'suspect' when they get there.

And how can this person see your fb? Get that sorted for starters.

daiseehope · 12/03/2014 00:27

Hello OP, you OK?

FannyFifer · 12/03/2014 00:27

Wtf, glad your dad is there.
