hi all,

I need an outside opinion or two.

I'm coming up for 12 weeks pregnant, EDD 26th September.

My mother in law has booked and paid for a family holiday departing UK on 24th October. so that will involved her, her 3 children (one of which is my DH), and all their respective partners and children, 12 people in total.

i am asking my DH to cancel us going on this family holiday for the following reasons:

my DD was 2 weeks late.
i'm expecting this baby to be 2 weeks late.
which will give me 2 weeks to register birth, get passport, get my head back together, and go on holiday.
i had extreme anxiety after DD was born, and relied heavily on Health Visitors.
the baby fog lifted approx 2 months after birth last time.
the holiday is in dubai.
my DH has melanoma, so i'm paranoid about my DD inheriting this by being out in the sun too much, so i'm pretty anti Dubai holiday anyway.
we used to go to Dubai a lot pre-malanoma, but i feel very differently about sunshine now

my DH is saying no, he's saying we should go, he will take DD to the water park, play with her in the pool all day, and if i'm going to be stuck inside with a newborn, i may as well do so in 5 star luxury.

i am worrying if i'm being ungrateful about this holiday.
i am worrying that i will feel like this is a huge pressure hanging over me when i'm getting to the end of pregnancy/first days of having newborn.
am i making a fuss over nothing?
i'm sure the anxiety won't be the same this time around, i wont have the chance, i'll have a 3.5 yr old to look after as well as a newborn.

what are your thoughts please mumsnet jury?
should we go? or cancel?

Another one who thinks its a ridiculous idea. However not completely ridiculous for dh and dd to go (if there is someone who could look after you). Rescheduling for the new year may be doable though?

Christelle2207 · 10/03/2014 16:38

Ps there is a chance her travel insurance could cover it, I reckon.

Bogeyface · 10/03/2014 16:42

I do think your DH and DD should go. I think she might blame the baby for the fact that she didn't go on holiday with everyone else.

Dont be ridiculous! At 3.5 she wont even know she is missing out unless anyone tells her, and she probably wont realise what it means anyway, never having been to that place before.

Another thing to bear in mind is that we are talking about Dubai, a Muslim country. If you BF, will you feel comfortable doing this out and about or feel trapped in your hotel room? If you are on any medication, need to be careful about packaging/permission as Dubai is strict on what drugs can be taken into the country. Will it be Ramadan whilst you are there (again not a problem in the hotel).

I've been to Dubai in October, unbearably hot. Can't see the point of going if you can't make use of the pool and both your children will need vigilant protection from the sun. If your DH has melanoma, why oh why would he risk his health going to Dubai?

popterryvent · 10/03/2014 16:56

Do not go. Your DH is crazy.

PiperRose · 10/03/2014 16:57

Sorry I had't realised I was being ridiculous.

Absolutely no way!!!

Firstly I would not take an unvaccinated newborn on a plane. My ds caught laryngitis on a plane aged 1 and it ruined our holiday - he had to spend 2 nights being nebulised in hospital

If you are bf then it is ludicrous to suggest it - as at 2 weeks I was half naked most of the day trying to establish feeding - I had had Stitches and would not have been comfortable on a plane or even travelling to the airport

Even a bottle fed baby is still establishing feeding at that point what if your baby loses weight or you want medical help?

It would be very selfish of your husband to go away for a week leaving you with a newborn to look after

He has forgotten what babies are like

You don't need this hanging over you - please just say no

I definitrly would go if it was me and I could passport. He can take me if he wants!
