to tell you all how much I love my FIL

....because he is such a gentleman. He treats me with more respect than my stepfather ever has done and treats me as one of his own. He dotes on DD and asks about how we both are all the time. He took me in when I had nowhere to go and he didn't bat an eyelid, even though I wasn't officially in a relationship with his son.

I luffs him. Even though he frustrates me as he has no regard for his own personal safety. I keep catching him on ladders cutting bloody hedges! He's 82!

Come on, tell me about your FIL

I've never had a FIL (died before I knew DH) but yours sounds lovely. There's a lot of negative feelings about FILs here, it's so refreshing to hear your story.

I've got a lovely FIL too (and a lovely MIL).

FIL drives DH mad, but not me (we rarely see them due to being so far apart). I laugh to see DH get wound up, yet my DF winds me up and not DH.

We are very lucky that we both love our inlaws.

How lovely Chris, I am so pleased for you and I am sure he appreciated you as much as you do him.

My FIL was fabulous too; decent, reliable, generous to a fault, a real gentleman, bon viveur, rambling raconteur after a few and a wonderful grandfather. We all miss him very much.

My FIL is a huge worrier and is always seeing potential danger that isn't there where his GC are concerned! It does grate a bit sometimes! But there isn't a nasty bone in his body and he'd give you his last penny if you needed it.

My FIL died 6 weeks ago and we all really miss him. He was such a lovely chap.

Oh i adore my FIL. He took me in and accepted me before DH and i had begun a relationship and when we did he hoped that i would be his DIL. When we got married he told me that he now had another daughter and was proud that his son had managed to get someone like me. Every christmas or birthday he asks me what i want or send us money. I have had two phones he bought for me including the one i use now. He tells anyone who cares to listen how smart i am and that if i had had the same opportunities as DH growing up then there would be two doctors in the family[him and DH] and me being the third. Might be true.

I am from another country, different races and cultures but he is just colour blind. He genuinely loves me and i love him. I know if the shit was to hit the fan then he is where and who i would run to as i have no family here. He is divorced from mother in law . Well MIL on the other hand is a dragon. FIL lives in another city so we don't see him often whereas MIL lives 10 mins from us and i don't see her often either.

I hope that he will have a long long life. He is only 66 so hoping for 30 more years.

I love my FIL, lovely funny, generous man, would do anything for you. He's extremely lazy and openly admits it, that's part of his charm and makes for many funny stories drives MIL up the wall, glad I don't live with him. Made me feel at ease the moment I met him. Brilliant grandfather, the kids love him and it's hard to tell who's the biggest kid!
