To think that it would be ok to have 4yr old DS's party on Easter Monday?

Hi, my little boy is excited already about having a party and his birthday is on 21 April which falls on Easter Monday. We'd like to have the party that day but do you think it's a bad idea? Would you be willing to take your child to a party on a bank holiday...welcome any advice thanks.

I'm sure a lot of them won't be able to make it. You should check with his BFF's parents before setting the date.

A lot of people may be away. My son's birthday falls on a back holiday weekend and I am having the party the following week.

We usually have family plans over Easter weekend so I'd check. But I'm not against bank holiday parties at all.

Weekend before/after? Kid can have two birthdays, ooh etc.

I wouldn't go to a party on easter monday as we'll undoubtedly be out at an event. Or if we're really unlucky at the PILs

I think you'd be better having it before the Easter holidays or after. imo there's two problems with having it on Easter Monday. 1) people will be on holiday. 2) people will forget about the party because they're not seeing each other and chatting about it.

We'd always be away Easter making most of long weekend. Plus very big family occasion in DH's family.

I've got bank holiday kids and I always avoid those weekends for their parties, after discovering early on that people are either away, or hedging their bets and considering going away if the weather's nice. One year most people I asked couldn't make it so I invited lots of other kids, then the forecast was dire and people cancelled their weekends away and brought their kids to my house instead. 12 wild 5 year old boys in my house - never again!

I'm not keen on BH birthdays... or weddings, for that matter!
But especially kids' birthdays - there's often other stuff on we want to do (but could miss) or whole weekend away stuff that's less easy to miss.

Thanks everyone...looks like it wouldn't be the beat idea to have it on Easter Monday. The weekend before and after are still in the Easter hols though so may still be lots of people who are away. Think will have to just go with one and hope for the best.

Lots of parents will be grateful to have a party on Easter Monday I reckon. Something to do with the kids! Especially if it's raining.

Id take my DCs to a party on a bank holiday/easter Monday. Nice activity for them, I suppose some families may have other plans but Id think most would attend. Not everyone goes away at Easter

Many people are away, it is the longest bank holiday in the year except Xmas. Have it the weekend after, if you have it on the Sunday most people will be back by then as school on Monday

My Ds 13 Also shares this date as his birthday we have had many parties over the Easter hols and have found them to be very successful. Think people are glad to have something to do !Smile

Sorry posted too soon. We recently had my DD's on a public holiday Monday (not in UK). We did check with her closest friends first, that they'd be able to make it. I assumed most of the rest wouldn't, invited too many kids and they all said yes. I had an awful lot of kids in my house. :)

I had a party for DD once on 'Easter' Saturday, along with a party in the weekend in the middle of the Easter holidays, and both had a very low attendance due to people being away. If you can have the party on the following weekend I would if I were you.

My kids go back to school the day after easter monday. It wouldn't worry me really. Many people don't have stuff on and would welcome something to do with the kids.
Do you have any way of speaking to some parents to check before sending out invites? Even if you had a smaller one at home there may be enough kids.

easter monday is last day of school holiday for most anyone who has been away for long weekend will be coming home that day, I think following weekend would be better, previous weekend is in middle of school holiday

however if low numbers would help you easter monday is a good idea

It's up to you but be prepared for a lot of no shows or low uptake. My DD's is usually around a bank holiday weekend and my DS is bang in the middle of the summer holidays. They're older now so it's no longer relevant but when they were younger I used to arrange the parties outwith holiday time.

I have a party booked for my daughter this Easter Monday, I had the same thought as you but texted a good few mums and most are around so have decided to go ahead. However we are back at school the next day and having an afternoon party so I guess most people planning to be back anyway.

I've held Easter egg hunts at my house for the last 3 years and always had a huge uptake by DD's friends. End up with far too many people as i always invite loads assuming most wont be able to make it.

Thanks, I've texted a few friends to see whether they can make it but don't have the numbers for DS's friends at nursery.
