West End. The bar prices are horrific. I'm going by myself which makes ms feel strange anyway. I've just noticed a small empty water bottle. Would it be terrible to make a gin and tonic up and take it with me?

As it is the West-end I'd do it, but small struggling provincial
theatres I would buy a drink from the bar. They need the revenue.

Procrastinating · 04/03/2014 16:45

YANBU. I usually take vodka in a water bottle and buy a cold coke.
I go to things by myself a lot, I like it.

Have fun.

motherinferior · 04/03/2014 16:46

I paid £15 for two glasses of rose, some water and a packet of crisps recently Shock .

PastaandCheese · 04/03/2014 16:49

Agree with those saying buy an iced tonic water and just take the gin.

Enjoy.

AdventColander · 04/03/2014 16:50

Just because you can go without a drink for a couple of hours, doesn't mean you should Wink I'd do it, but drink it at your seat not in the bar.

MimsyBorogroves · 04/03/2014 16:52

Hell yes.

Though you've given me an idea to make Thursday's toddler group more interesting.

Lighthousekeeping · 04/03/2014 16:55

I won't be at the bar I will outside getting some "fresh air"

OP posts:
Lighthousekeeping · 04/03/2014 16:56

Vodka in freezer

badbride · 04/03/2014 17:27

Though you've given me an idea to make Thursday's toddler group more interesting.

Why, how much G&T were you planning to give the toddlers? Grin

badbride · 04/03/2014 17:30

OP, if you're worried about getting your handbag searched, I suggest hiding your G&T in one of these: wine bra

I would advise against adding ice to it, though Shock

Ok, I'm recovering from a booze problem so perhaps that colours my thinking but this thread does rather indicate booze issues to me.

Just because one of the warning signs is not being able to contemplate certain situations without booze, and it seems a bit desperate to me to do this (even I was never desperate enough to do this).

Sorry, as everyone seems to think it's perfectly normal but it doesn't scream normal to me.

Also, finally, an acquaintance did this in the only decent pub in town, got caught and is now barred. They could probably eject you without a refund for doing it.

motherinferior · 04/03/2014 17:39

The OP is going out for an evening. To the sort of occasion on which one usually purchases a drink. Even if one doesn't usually drink in the week. It is the Theatre. She is considering something which won't get her chucked out - it's not a pub, it's a theatre - and is IMO perfectly reasonable.

The events which always sell out of drink are the school plays/concerts. And frankly you don't have to have a booze problem to need a drink to get through those.

expatinscotland · 04/03/2014 17:39

FGS! So because you have a problem, everyone who fancies a drink at the theatre has an alcohol problem (even worse than yours). You have issues.

likeneverbefore · 04/03/2014 17:41

She asked for opinions. I gave mine politely.

Shame you failed to do the same expat.

expatinscotland · 04/03/2014 17:45

By pointing out that is is presumptuous and sanctimonious to assert the OP has a drink problem, that is even worse than yours, of course, because even you could refrain from alcohol at the theatre?

Scolding someone and telling them they have an alcohol problem because they fancy a drink at a play is hardly polite.

squoosh · 04/03/2014 17:46

Oh come on, a drink or two goes hand in hand with a trip to the theatre for most. Really does not indicate a drink problem. Indicates that someone would like a G&T without paying extortionate prices.

likeneverbefore · 04/03/2014 17:46

I will post as I see fit, thank you expat.

expatinscotland · 04/03/2014 17:49

Go right ahead. I will as well.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 04/03/2014 17:51

I recommend handbag wine (those 187ml bottle) wholeheartedly.
It is only due to handbag wine that I can contemplate sitting through Hobbit-type guff with DP at the cinema (its a posh one with tables and drink holders - I buy 1 glass to take in with me then top it up several times a bit

Capitola · 04/03/2014 17:53

Go for it - theatre bar prices are exorbitant.

Lighthousekeeping · 04/03/2014 17:55

OMg I've never been one to stay in my seat during the interval. Best check myself into a clinic.

OP posts:
iklboo · 04/03/2014 17:57

A lot of people enjoy a drink at the theatre. They don't enjoy paying nearly £15 for a couple of g&ts that cost the theatre next to nothing. And, yes, I know theatres are expensive to run, but bar prices take the proverbial. They'd probably actually sell more if it was cheaper.

sallysparrow157 · 04/03/2014 17:57

A friend of mine has been known to take a bottle in a nice gift bag with a gift tag and a bow, so if anyone gets suspicious she is sneaking in her own booze, well, she is out for a friend's birthday and has brought her a bottle of Malibu or whatever (has to be a non see through bottle so they can't tell you've been drinking it!) as a present to take home with her

Lighthousekeeping · 04/03/2014 18:01

Wow. Sneaky!

I have friends who take spirits every time the go to the local pub. That annoys me.

OP posts:
akachan · 04/03/2014 18:07

I always take a couple of tins of G&T to the cinema. Never done it in the theatre though weirdly.
