To have just shouted at a horse rider outside my house

Have namechanged for privacy.

I am so angry right now. We sometimes (twice a year at most) get horses going past our house as we live around the corner from a small private farm. We live in a city, so it's quite a novelty when we hear the sound of "clip clop" outside.

About 20 mins ago we heard the sound of clip clop and I took DS to the front room to look outside. As we watched the horses go by one stopped and kind of turned around and SHITTED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DRIVEWAY. Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit. And the rider laughed at her other horsey friends.

As soon as I saw it I put my shoes on and ran outside and the rider was going on her way again. Her friends had gone up ahead. I ran up to her shouting "excuse me" and she wouldn't stop. I shouted at her if she was going to clear up the horse poo outside my house and she replied "stop shouting at me" without even turning around to see I had a toddler in my arms.

I couldn't go any further because I was holding my DS and had left a sleeping baby inside.

Now I have a pile of horse shit outside my house, and I want to actually KILL this horse rider. Our road is a school route and I don't want children stepping in it but why the fuck should I have to clear it up? I am so pissed off. I want to get into the car and hunt down the fuckers and pull them back by their ears and tell them to clean it.

I have no horse, have never ridden a horse, and have never owned anything larger than a cat.

Pipbin · 04/03/2014 17:55

I'm with the majority here but it is wrong to say that horse poo has no health risks. It can contain tetanus. I know because I used to have to have annual tetanus jabs because we had horses.

So, is the consensus that you DO need to 'well-rot' the manure before using? What does this mean, you just make a pile and leave it?

frogwatcher42 · 04/03/2014 17:58

Well, shouting around a horse is really stupid quite frankly. And that you say you did.

I would be horrified if I saw somebody shout near a horse. Ignorance at its best.

And horse poo is not dangerous in any way. They are herbivores. So there really is no need to panic. I would be very very very surprised if the rider picked it up. Round here, as soon as a horse poos, the neigbours are out grabbing it to put on their roses.

I am still sure this is a wind up as I truly do not believe there are people this ignorant.

usualsuspect33 · 04/03/2014 17:58

By the end of this thread OP they will have had screeching and screaming. at the horse.

WillieWaggledagger · 04/03/2014 17:58

actually i'm reasonably understanding about being annoyed about horse poo in the road. it doesn't personally bother me, i'm not a horse owner or (current) rider but I have ridden in the past. but if you don't like it you don't like it

it's the running and flapping and shouting around horses that i think is unreasonable, and that is the actual AIBU question in the OP's title

frogwatcher42 · 04/03/2014 17:59

Hazel - yes, pile or bag and leave to rot.

Or you can use it round certain plants in its raw state.

Chickens love pecking through it.

coldwater1 · 04/03/2014 17:59

Its only horse poo, shovel it up and put it on your flowerbeds. Problem solved Grin

True squoosh.

usualsuspect no, by the end of the thread I will have thrown an axe at the horse's legs to stop it in its tracks and will have pushed the horse rider's face in the poo. Wink

Ooh, thanks, frog / kotinka

usualsuspect33 · 04/03/2014 18:05

It isn't harmless.

Clostridium tetani spores can live for a long time outside the body and are widespread in the environment. They are commonly found in the manure of animals such as horses.

I sometimes get camels outside my house

BuzzardBird · 04/03/2014 18:07

I would love to know how I got my first reply deleted for asking if this is a wind up? Several other people have said the exact same thing in astonishment!

Thattimeofyearagain · 04/03/2014 18:07

You are aware of the fact that you sound like a fucking lunatic, op ?

Capitola · 04/03/2014 18:07

She could hardly dismount and clean it up, could she? Even at grand horsey parades in London involving royals, the horses just shit with impunity and it's left there.

I don't mind a steaming horse shit outside my house; I shovel it up and put it on the compost.

SeaSickSal · 04/03/2014 18:08

I have to say although I think she over reacted a bit I do have some sympathy for the OP.

My local park is right over the road from a football ground and on match days police horses patrol it.

There was a match on Saturday and today directly outside the gate to the children's play area was a massive stinking horse shit. It was very difficult getting a toddler round it.

It irritated me, but mainly because the council know that it happens but they don't organise anything to sort it out. It wouldn't be that hard to pick it up and move it five yards to a flower bed.

Annual tetanus jabs? Really? Any other equestrian workers on here been advised they need this? Very odd and never come across it despite having had horses all my life (until I moved to London 3 years ago).

usualsuspect33 · 04/03/2014 18:11

I'd be embarrassed if my horse shat all over someones drive.

I'm with you all the way OP.

I don't care what kind of an arse it came out of, shit is shit and it shouldn't be left on the road.
