to expect 22 month old to be happy on a buggy board?

This is probably the wrong category, but tbh just thinking of the traffic, am considering buying my 22 month old a buggy board instead of forking out for double buggy with newborn pending this month. Is it cruel to make her give up the buggy this young? Or are they actually any good?

She might be a bit young tbh. Can you not buy a cheap double buggy to use for a bit - you don't have to do the whole Phil and Ted thing, I used a Cosatto twin pushchair when dd was born and ds was 23 months. A lifesaver until ds was happy on a buggyboard.

I think a 22 month old is too young at the moment. Try your local Freecycle as a Wanted item. It's amazing how generous people can be. You could Freecycle as an Offer item yourself when you no longer need it.

I needed polystyrene pieces and so many people offered bagsful. Lotsof us keep things 'just in case'.

Too young I think, I bought a cheap £200 double buggy when I had a newborn and 1year old, can't remember the exact name but I'm sure it was Red Kite.....I love it, I really wanted a expensive one but didn't really see the point.

i tried it with a 22month old op so I didnt have to fork out for a double buggy. ended up buying a double buggy lol The mamas abd papas twin is brilliant

I had an older child and a buggy board, the biggest problem was if it was a long walk (or even around the shops) he would very easily fall asleep whilst standing and was too dangerous so had to be put away till he was older.

Possibly a bit young.. Could you not put the baby in a sling until your toddler is a little older?

I used a buggy board with 23 month old and newborn, but he's happy walking anyway.

Our DD was a week off 2 when DS was born and she loved her buggy board, which was lucky because buying a double buggy was not an option for us financially expecting the age gap to be a bit bigger!. She has always been and still is a very good walker so this could have made a difference.

It may not work for you just yet but they are an excellent option for when your little munchkin is ready. Xx

I would agree with those saying too young.

I'm another one sayin too young, I'm afraid. You will need a double, unless you drive everywhere and don't use a pushchair much.

You can get buggy boards that have a seat too. Would that be a better option to rest little legs?

Dc1&2 are 16 months apart

Lugged a double about for 6 months and then was well and truly sick of it so I bought ds1 then 22ish months a buggy board to go on the back of our single pram

He hated it
He screamed blue murder

So we went back to the double. He finally accepted the buggy board at about 2.5 years

Dd1 was 19 months when dd2 was born and she was fine just walking. I had a carrier for dd2 incase she needed to go in the pushchair and for us it worked however the supermarket was half a mile away and town centre 5 mins walk. You know your child best and what they'll do.

You are unreasonable expecting a 22 month old to be happy with anything. The best solution I found was toddler in pushchair/baby in carrier/sling, until the baby gets too heavy, by which time the toddler is a little older and can better deal with the buggy board.

I had double pushchairs!

I wouldn't waste money on a double buggy for a child so nearly 2.

Would you consider wearing newborn in a sling and pushing toddler?

My friend had no problem with her 22 month old on a buggy board so it depends!

My toddler's two and a half - just had second baby and assembled the board today. We've had a trial run round the back garden so far...

Only problem is she steps off if I try to reverse the buggy.

I was going to just use the baby carrier I used for DD but new baby is considerably larger than she was I think I'd hurt my back!

If your 22Mo regularly sleeps in the buggy then it wouldn't be a good idea!

My 2.2yo naps in the double with our 5mo every afternoon.

I suppose you might get away with a buggy board if you don't use your buggy much.

You can get baby carriers that are supportive enough to carry a toddler (I carry DD who is 16 months and 25lb ish in a carrier still) so a large newborn shouldn't be a problem!

I loved my stretchy sling till DD reached 16/17lb, then I moved on to a buckle carrier- the thing to look for is that baby has a nice wide seat so their legs are spread round you instead of dangling. It brings their weight in closer to your centre of gravity so less strain on your back, and the way the straps are positioned is more supportive than most high street carriers. The manduca is a good buckle carrier, and it can be used from newborn. It's available in store at Kiddicare so you could give it a try.

I thought my dd would be fine (26 months when her brother was born) but she wasn't. She point blank refused to go on it and eventually managed to tell me she didn't feel safe on it.

We just tried to go to local groups etc and she would walk but I just made sure that we had plenty of time as she was sooo slow. Do you have any friends with a buggy board that he could try it? When she did start to use it when she was older it was great and I'm glad I didn't get a double buggy.

Should be fine. We did with smaller gap. Get a decent sling though also ( not babybjorn). We often just had baby in sling and elder ( 16 month gap) just toddling along so no pram needed.

And by 2 we sold single as no one used. They nap at home or on friends sofas though

I tried this with my two year old recently. Dd had just turned two when ds2 was born last month. She refused to even stand on the buggy board. I carried Ds2 in a sling for the school run and he got soaked when we were caught out in the rain. I've just bought a second hand Phil and Teds, much better.
