To wonder when the "Bun look" will go out of fashion?

Im talking about those stupid donut ring things to make a massive over-sized scary bun. Everyday for the past few years i leave the house, now and then I see next door neighbour and her 3 daughters, all with matching buns.

I get on the bus to go to work, Im surrounded by buns.

I go to the shops, Im once again surrounded by women with buns.

They look ok on young girls doing dance classes, at a push teenagers, but for gods sake, the woman I've just seen in the post office had a bun wider than her head Shock. I could not stop staring at it. They just remind me of those stupid hair washing plastic things your mum used to get you to wear so the water doesnt go in your eyes!

Please i beg you, throw your donut ring in the bin!!

I love messy buns, but not those forced buns with those donut things. I have curly, crazy hair and if I don't straighten it, the only way to make it look halfway decent is to wear it in a messy bun. Been doing it for about twelve years!

Oh, is that what those things are? I spent an Easyjet flight a couple of weeks ago fascinated by one of the stewardesses' glossy, bum-sized hair bun. I didn't know bun technology was involved...

I like scrunchy's too. Blush Did they ever go out of style?

I wore a bun for about a decade, my shoulder- elbow - shoulder length afro hair didn't need one of those donuts but the style was the same. I've only just cut it short and am now desperate to grow it long enough for a bun again Blush.

Reasons for my celibacy 1, 2, 3.........

Still loathe people that flick their nit ridden locks all over the place in eating establishments a la Kate Middleton tho'.

According to the Sunday Times Style magazine, the bun-on-the-top-of-the-head look is called the "Harper"...

I tie mine in a bun everyday because I'm lazy, wondered if one of the bun things would make it look neater, took bloody ages and I looked like Dorothy Burke from Neighbours.

Cast into the bottom drawer in the bathroom along with DIY French manicure kit, false eyelashes, spray in temporary hair colorant, the snap wrap, the epilater...

DD hasn't got enough hair for a 4ft bun :o. She's lucky she has enough to actually wrap round the donut...

Not a great fan if the bun, but it can look nice on primary aged girls I think.

In my area, the messy bun seems to rule for teen. Along with vv short skirts and the obligatory thick, black tights. The next few months will see the return of my pet hate - the dreaded bum cheek shorts with no tights.

No drug mule buns on women over 21 in my area that I've seen.

I'm glad I stopped working in beauty therapy when this tragic eyebrow trend started, what is wrong with nice tidy brows, teenagers these days either want them plucked off and drawn back on in some ridiculous fashion or made really heavy and thick a'la scouse brow style. Confused

Miaowthecat oh my god, I had completely put out of my mind those plastic bun cage things. I shudder at the thought of my neon pink expandable bun cage. I think they stopped making them due to health and safety*

*may not be entirely true, but should be!

For those who do love a bun, but also get a bit chilly, fear not, you can still have a bun whilst wearing a hat

Maybe they use the massive donut as a neck brace when they get home.

you could put it on strange toilet seats when out so your sweet cheeks don't touch

YANBU I was sitting behind a woman in the cinema with one of those on - so bloody annoying! Ruined my view.

Looks ridiculous too IMHO.

I love a bun, I've been wearing my hair in a bun (usually with a net over the top) for years and years. Not all the time but I tend to have either a bun or a tight plait when I will be handling food at work. I've never used one of those bun insert sponge things but as my hair is very thick and hip length it does make a big bun.

Why a bun though, it's so 2013. I want to see other shaped things on people's heads. People need to up their hair topiary game, maybe a wellington boot or a phoenix rising from the flames.

Buns are so amateur.

About 90% of women where I live wear buns on the top of their head, and they get bigger and bigger. I think it's like marrow growing for towns-folk. I admit I do own a donut 'cos I wants to fit in Blush but it involves standing with my head upside down wrestling my ponytail until I am in a total rage so I don't bother.

Can I just point out that the huge bun is a Mumsnet creation? See here. The OP made an enormous bun doughnut with old tights, like a cave woman making coats of animal skins :o

They are hideous things. There's a young woman at my work who has one - it's now wider than her face. I am in awe - how does she actually make it? Confused
