Why?

Ours has to sit between us on the sofa. He doesn't shed, in mitigation.

Snugglepiggy · 28/02/2014 21:16

Love our dogs but no to going on our expensive sofas, and they don't go upstairs and that's the way it's always been io our house.Although tbh years ago when I first met DH his Labrador slept on his bed ,but harsh as it sounds after we got married that stopped. He snored and farted too much.Dog not DH that is!
Our dogs have a great old time.Loads of walks, best quality food and treats and we even plan our holidays mainly in this country so they come with us.But they are dogs - so they have their own squashy beds that they love, and a great big cushion each in front of each sofa.As I type this DH is sat on floor next to one stroking his boy.And I am sat on Snugglegirls cushion stroking her.Only the cat is sat on the sofa !

CerealMom · 28/02/2014 21:18

Cereal dog has blanket for the sofa and our bed, and various large cushions around the house.

Do love watching him turning around and around, clawing at the blanket/cushion to get comfy. He likes to sleep on his back with his back legs spread.

My old dog was stinky and rarely had a bath so wasnt allowed on the sofa. New dog bathes regularly - she wanders up puts her head on the sofa and looks up at me...sometimes I say no but when I want a cuddle I say yes. She also has an early morning cuddle on the bed. She is in no doubts that licking her bottom on the bed or sofa is socially unnacceptable.

She would never be allowed on if we had more visitors than seats, she doesnt have her own seat on the sofa and she wouldnt be allowed on anyone elses furniture.

ferretyfeet · 28/02/2014 21:26

My little dog wouldn't dream of being anywhere but on the sofa, she thinks it's her god given right to go there. She absolutely adores the sun and if she can sneak into my bedroom, there is a patch of sun on my bed on a sunny day and if she can lie in it she's in doggy heaven. But she's a little whippet and they have a mind of their own about where they are going to sleep, but she is very clean so who am I to complain'she's family

MrsMoon76 · 28/02/2014 21:35

Moondog likes to stretch out on the sofa for a cuddle unless there is a fire blazing in which case he sits almost on top of it and only comes to the sofa to cool off. He has his own bed in the bedroom and likes to be where we are.

getdownshep · 28/02/2014 21:39

ferrety your dog sounds like mine. He's either on my lap,on the back of the settee or sunbathing on my bed.
He's a mini pinscher who doesn't shed, smell or roll in anything smelly though.

maddy68 · 28/02/2014 22:21

I love my doggy cuddles on the sofa :) little room fir me with the three cats snuggled up to the dog as well!

DramaAlpaca · 28/02/2014 22:26

I am MNing on the sofa with a springer spaniel lying fast asleep next to me, upside down with all four legs in the air Smile She's lovely & warm.

Splodgewart · 01/03/2014 02:56

Gosh, almost scared to admit this but my dog lives outside...in a kennel! I had no idea that was so unusual! Hope she doesn't meet any of your pooches or I'm in big trouble! They are probably all on Dogsnet right now comparing notes... Which doesn't really matter coz I won't let her have a computer either..

No dog but our cats go on chairs and sofa when they like. I put a fleecy throw for them to lie on.

Minifingers · 01/03/2014 08:42

No. She stinks of fox shit.

SofaCanary · 01/03/2014 10:36

I love the idea of them all furiously tapping away on Dogsnet Grin

Crowler · 01/03/2014 10:45

I'm really worried about my human, she is very clever but really lazy & drinks too much wine....

LEMmingaround · 01/03/2014 10:46

Why have you got a dog splodge? is it a working dog?

D0oinMeCleanin · 01/03/2014 10:53

Depends on the dog.

Whippy; Allowed on the sofa, all the time under all circumstances, except occasionally for her own protection if there are excited, bouncing children all over it.

Devil Dog; Allowed on the sofa when there are no children on it or foster dogs or when I am in the room.

Current Foster; Started being allowed only when Devil Dog was not there first, but became so possessive of the sofa she is not even allowed in the room the sofa is kept in, except for when doing training, alone in a room with only me and her . We are working on learning "off" (the sofa) "on" (to the sofa) "bed" (self explanatory) and that allowing people near things she covets (such as the sofa, bed, pet bowls etc. brings extra goodies not threats. She is being rehomed to an adult only, dog experienced home.

Slapntickleothewenches · 01/03/2014 12:00

Before it all goes tits up for splodgewort I could add myself to the group "people who have dogs live in a kennel"
They were working dogs, massively preferred living outdoors (they slept indoors due to the risk of theft) and seemed to suffer no ill effects whatsoever. They are indoor dogs now but the mud, hair and general detritus after a days shooting often makes me wonder
Not for everyone but

LEMmingaround · 01/03/2014 12:12

Slap, i think thats the thing though - working dogS outside - fine, i can understand that, your reason for having the dogs is to persue your sport. The dogs have a function, companionship from each other, are stimulated by their "jobs".I'm willing to bet they're happier than many pet dogs. But i have to be honest and say that i think having a single, pet dog living outside is not fair and also, what is the point - you may as well have a rabbit.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 01/03/2014 14:18

Like LEM I don't see the point of keeping a pet dog outside. My dog thrives on interaction, company and affection. Obviously I get a lot out of dog ownership too.

Motherhen39 · 01/03/2014 15:20

DH and I spend evenings squeezed at opposite ends of the sofa with two 25k (clean and minimal shedding) dogs between us. We then head to bed, the dogs go to their beds and come morning we wake up to find said dogs taking the lions share of the bed and once again us hanging on the edge of the bed on our respective sides.

Youngest DD woke up singing the Pillow Pet song this morning, on further investigation I discovered RossiThe-Bast**d(cat) curled up round her head purring happily on her pillow. Our house has very gradually turned into a free for all. I do draw the line at the hens in the house though.

Mrsdavidcaruso · 01/03/2014 16:16

My Grandad made me laugh - when my Nan died he got himself a lovely female Boxer Dog from a rescue centre.

A couple of days later I asked him how the dog was settling in - fine he says but she sleeps on the bed, takes up all the room and snores and farts it's like having your Nan back

bodybooboo · 01/03/2014 16:29

no dogs here but my cats sleep anywhere and everywhere and the little one in between us in bed as we are mummy and daddy!

they also have baskets in the porch entrance which are on special shelves and ds has made curtains for them which we pull across if they venture to sleep outside so they keep warm.

I dread to think how we would spoil a dog. Grin

Splodgewart · 01/03/2014 18:54

Am not completely heartless honest! We don't live in UK and it's much hotter here. She does come inside sometimes to lie on the cool floor. Spend loads of time with her and she comes everywhere with us - on the farm, to the beach. Spends her days chasing rabbits, digging holes, eating bones and rolling in dead stuff. Just different I guess. I don't think I'm totally deluded when I say I'm pretty sure she's a happy diggidy dog!
