funnily enough i just took a pic the other day of my dog with dh on the sofa....he is massive. and still growing. (the dog...not dh) Grin i would share but dont know how to insert a pic?

LokiDokey · 28/02/2014 17:18

Here is 18 week old Murphy the Scottie dog in his favoured position, back of the sofa. He likes it here because he can look out of the window. Grin

He's quite small and our sofas are quite large so I don't envisage a problem.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 28/02/2014 17:25

The first rule we had for candydog was that he was not allowed on the sofa. It was also the first rule we broke. Wink He's small and non moulting though and doesn't care where he sits, so not a problem when guests come over.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2014 17:36

Of course our dog is allowed on the sofa. He's a shorthaired standard dachshund, very clean, doesn't shed or smell, and perfect for cuddling because he doesn't have awkward long legs all over the place. Last night we watched a DVD ... DD and her duvet had one sofa, I sat on the other, DH lying on it with his legs over me and the dog somewhere atop us (so he wasn't actually on the sofa Grin). Very cosy.

ohhifruit · 28/02/2014 17:39

Our dogs are always on the sofa, the tiny one in particular is like a little hot water bottle and very handily he likes to sit on the back part of the sofa. This comes in handy when I have a sore neck!

OneMoreThenNoMore · 28/02/2014 17:42

Our dog is allowed on the sofa, but she loses her place first if we have guests. Actually her favourite spot is on top of the smaller sofa, looking out of the window.

She is small, non-moulting and we have leather sofas that are easily wipeable.

Years ago when we just had one cat (we now have 2 cats, a dog and two dcs), she had her own spot on the sofa and nobody was allowed to sit on her side Grin

thesecowsaresmallthosearefaraw · 28/02/2014 18:27

Grin at "FURniture."

MajorGrinch · 28/02/2014 18:30

Ours is either snuggled up next to one of us, on a lap or snoozing stretched out on the arm.

He's the same size as a cat but less likely to take umbrage with a tickle & attack us....

KarinMurphy · 28/02/2014 18:36

When we got our first dog we said 'not on the sofa' and 'definitely not upstairs'. Gradually they sneaked onto the sofa but still didn't go upstairs. Eventually they died and we got new dogs. One of these was quite a tiny puppy and a total cuddle monster and before I knew it DH was letting her onto the bed. Now I regularly find myself inched out of bed by three large, hairy and frequently muddy hounds. They look so blissful, streched out while I have about an inch on the edge. Grrrrrrrr!

FrontForward · 28/02/2014 18:39

It's a guilty pleasure. Every so often he sleeps in the bed …under the covers with me as well. Has to be veeeery cold for that though

Mrsdavidcaruso · 28/02/2014 18:52

My puppy is not allowed on the sofa - my 3 cats won't let him

LEMmingaround · 28/02/2014 18:57

I have two dogs on the sofa with me just now - i wouldn't have it any other way Grin They also sleep in our bed Blush I can't sleep if they aren't there.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/02/2014 18:57

My logic was that the cat was allowed on the sofa, so it would be mean not to let the dogs on. And they are lovely and snuggly.

Crowler · 28/02/2014 19:43

I feel as though I have part-dog DNA. I get such joy out of a stretching, yawning dog snuggled right up next to me in bed or on the couch.

I love dog breath, I love kissing their noses, they're just delicious.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 28/02/2014 19:56

crowler me too! I am definitely part lab. Where's the food?

I also love the smell of wet dog Blush

Crowler · 28/02/2014 19:58

Yes, where indeed Wink

You are all on your own with the wet dog thing. Dog breath is gorgeous, wet dog not so.

cees · 28/02/2014 20:16

Your not alone, our dog has her own bed and a lovely fluffy rug to sink into so she can bugger off if she thinks she is getting my settee all smelly and hairy. No thanks.

KittensoftPuppydog · 28/02/2014 20:38

Dog breath is my favourite smell.

namechange74 · 28/02/2014 20:41

because i love him SOOOO much i would rather sit on the sofa with him than anyone else.

VivaLeBeaver · 28/02/2014 20:44

Funnily enough the only dog I ever successfully kept off the sofa was my greyhound.

Happiestinwellybobs · 28/02/2014 20:51

Our Lab has two leather tub chairs just for when he is in a sulky mood, he sleeps on one of our sofas every night with a blanket on, and often cuddles up to me on the other one.

Sofas are wiped down, dog bathed frequently and he isn't allowed upstairs as it's carpeted.

Can't understand why you wouldn't want a cuddle from a 5 stone bundle of gorgeousness if you own a dog :). (Although we don't let him climb on there when we've vistors!)

fanoftheinvisibleman · 28/02/2014 20:51

There are a number of people I would ban from my sofa before I banned the dog!

He is happy for me to get in his bed so share and share alike here.

expatinscotland · 28/02/2014 20:55

Yuk.

We have a lovely hamster.

TheCatThatSmiled · 28/02/2014 20:57

Don't have dogs, but if I had they might be allowed on the ifs if they weren't mucky, didn't hog it or the remote control and didn't fart ( unlike my husband who is often guilty of the last three)

Slapntickleothewenches · 28/02/2014 20:59

No dogs on sofas or upstairs here
Ours are working dogs and spend walks crashing through all sorts of mud and undergrowth. I am a good dog trainer but have never managed to teach them that clean means ok on the sofa and muddy means not, we settle for a blanket ban all round :)
