To be sitting in the car AGAIN waiting for PFB to wake up?!

It took me 3 hours of trying everything to get him to sleep so sitting in the car for an hour has got to be better than waking him and having to go through it all again!!!

I learnt very quickly to always have a book in the changing bag for just such occasions - I got through a lot of books in completely nap refusing little hellion's PFB's first year!

For this reason I always preferred to go for a long walk with them instead of a drive. Then you can leave them in pram sleeping in the hall,conservatory or the back garden in warmer weather.

Queen above has it sussed for the car - leave a book there or connect to your wifi from outside and mn while waiting.

The nap thing becomes mad - I used to walk for an hour for a 40 minute nap. Loopy

My pfb is now 5 and running around upstairs with a friend from school!!

It used to be the highlight of my day, even had the odd snooze.

It may be worth just seeing if he wakes up if you move him from car seat to buggy, if he doesn't then you can take him wherever you want him to continue sleeping. I clearly remember the day DH and tried this with our PFB (about 6m at the time) and he barely stirred - it was a revelation - we went for a fabulous lunch and PFB slept throughout. Thereafter I'd get him to sleep in the car, then move him to buggy and go for coffee/lunch/a walk - most days, for a wonderful 18m or so .

I pack up a thermos and a bit of crochet.

I've got two DC now and my greatest luxury is the forty minutes after DDs swimming lesson when she has a late nap and I sit outside school in prime position because of arriving so stupidly early with a thermos of good coffee and a bit of craft to do or book to read and the radio on.

No housework, no endless questions or complaints, absolute bliss!

I think there's a stage where you decide that the effort put into a nap just doesn't compute - and I say that as someone who spent the snowy spell last winter trekking up and down the single street of my village with a wakeful nine month old who would only nap if either held or walked in his pushchair.

Now he's heading for two, and there's a limit to the investment I'm prepared to put into a nap.

ah, those were the days, having a good book in the car for nap time, the radio on...

Not sure I shall be able to do it with DC2 when they arrive, as I imagine nap time will be exactly when I have to do something with DC1 which means I cannot just sit in the car and relax for a hour. Boo.

I was there this afternoon with 2 of them asleep in the back of the car.

I'd nap myself, but my neighbours would think we'd gassed ourselves in the garage I think....

I used to carry the car seat in as it was a clip in one so I never had to sit and wait it out. Especially when it gets to baby number 3 you've got far too much to do to be waiting around.

McDonalds drive through. Coffee and a chocolate cookie. Used to do this approx three times a week at one stage. At least you are resting in your parked car with a book and a hot drink that way, not fretting about what housework needs doing.

Oh dear. You need to perfect the art of gently removing them from the seat and sneaking them into their cot. Easier said than done I know. But 2 years of practice and I am now expert at it. DH is rubbish.

I miss the walks! Another one who did big hour, hour and a half long walks so pfb would get a decent nap as she was one of those dreaded catnappers. But at least my maternity leave was mainly in the spring and summer and it was quite nice to plug my headphones in and go for a wander for a while.

I was a walker too but would wait until asleep then head to a quiet coffee shop with a book. When back at work my Fridays off in the coffee shop were bliss.

None of my 3 ever slept through a transfer from car seat to anywhere else, so I'm another one who kept a stash of magazines and a novel in the glove compartment. We used to drive to a local beauty spot, and I'd get up to an hour of peace - it was utter bliss. I miss those days now!

Mine woke up when I turned off the ignition! All grown now and cant get them out of bed!!

Wakes up as soon as I open my door to get him out let alone transfer him anywhere :( I also do the 1-2 hour walks to get him to nap - live in a flat with stairs so don't even have the luxury of leaving him the garden or the hallway!

Woe is me! :)

Glad I'm not the only one - will take some mags out with me tomorrow and stock up on some choccies!

Oh yes, I spent many an hour with DC1 doing that. I read many books.

Of course DC2 just had to go with the flow of DC1's routine and I didn't have the luxury second time around.

I remember sitting in a parking space and watching as a woman lifted her baby and toddler out of their car seats into their respective places in a double buggy. Neither of them even stirred! I was so envious. Is their a knack to that I wonder? All of mine would've been wide awake as soon as the door opened.

Have you tried a sling/carrier? DD used to drop off in the carrier, and I'd either leave her in there while I pottered around, or if she was on my front and getting in my way I would carefully bend over the bed/sofa so she was lying down, unbuckle the carrier and ease myself away from her, leaving the carrier underneath her. She almost always woke if I tried to transfer her from the car, but this worked as there's no loud noises or sudden movements.

Oh this brings back memories

Another one here who stayed in the car for hours or who wore out lawks knows how many shoes pounding the pavements..
