To never ever eat again because eating means pooing. :(

I'm prone to piles especially since dc2 and thought I had it under control. I've been going daily for days but maybe Anusol isn't working its magic anymore..

anyway, I think I have anal fissures. In fact I'm sure of it. Today I spent 30 mins trying to poo, and it was like childbirth. I didn't push anything out in the end because it felt like I was about to tear open. I was sweating like I was when I was in stage 2 labour with my children.

I've used a glycerol suppository, and an anusol suppository and used loads of anusol. It's been about 5 hours now and I still need to go but am too scared to sit on the toilet. I haven't eaten all day because it just means building up more shit.

What shall I do? I'm not a troll btw, just really in pain. Why the fuck do women have to go through this shit after childbirth? .

A relative of mine had a fissure, they did go to the Dr and get some treatment, I forget what, but whatever it was didn't work particularly well. Apparently applying coconut oil directly to the fissure was almost like a miracle cure. You need to see the gp though so you know exactly what you're dealing with. Hope you manage to get it sorted soon.

kazzawazzawoo · 23/02/2014 20:35

Sorry, I mean use the olive oil in your cooking, lots of salad with olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper and also butter on your cooked veg. Then rub vitamin e oil from H&B into your anus after a movement and after wiping with a prep H wipe.

deste · 23/02/2014 20:37

I had a fissure for years, this is what helped me. Try not to go to the toilet till evening and then you have all night and next day to start to heal. Don't force yourself to go, that makes it worse. I find eating All bran and loads of fruit helps. I used Proctocedyl suppositories and the cream together, the only thing that worked. I used them whenever I needed to ie after pooing.

Thanks for those links Readytopop, I have plenty of broccoli in the fridge, will eat that tomorrow.

bulldozer thanks for explaining that. I just managed to go a few mins ago before reading your reply. I pressed down on my perenium and it made going easier. I also had my feet on a stool. I'm thinking I do have a prolapse or rectocele. Do these occur in different levels of seriousness? Because I don't have any problems with my bladder control. Can pelvic floor exercises help control a prolapse or rectocele?

Thanks to everyone for the advice, i've read them all. I'm feeling a bit relieved now. Have just inserted another anusol suppository. Thanks for the offer beyondthelimits :) I will go and buy some tomorrow now. Loads of water and fruit and lactulose for me tonight and tomorrow.

Another thing, I've been on micronor for the past month and apparently constipation is a side effect. Maybe it's this causing the flare up?

Haven't had time for the whole thread but breathing really deeply and blowing out slowly when I was going really helped me. I thought I was stuck with mine for life. But they did heal in the end. They were the worst thing ever. Good luck.

gimcrack · 23/02/2014 20:55

You must see your GP. The alternative is dreading ever poo, or being on the road to recovery. You cannot live your life around pooing, so go and get treated.

BlueDesmarais · 23/02/2014 21:03

Alright, true story. My mum did all this. Laxatives, special food, all of it. I was 7 or 8 or so, and I'd still catch her crying her eyes out. I'd ask if it was the pain, but she'd say no. Finally she admitted "I don't want a doctor looking at my bum."

I mean, I get it. No one wants that. But there comes a point you have to get it over with.

My mum eventually went in. She got surgery and had the fissure repaired. She was well again.

You can't go on like this forever. Please, see a doctor. They'll be so cool and blasé about it it'll be like looking at your wrist. Actually it's kind of funny just how NOT bothered they are. I dread smear tests and then I had to go in for a uterine infection, and they're just so - yeah, vaginas, whatever - about it all.

fryingpantoface · 23/02/2014 21:11

Anusol is rubbish for me, germoloids is better, the suppositories and the cream together helps

jen2014 · 23/02/2014 21:38

Go to the doctors and ask for a prescription for Movicol - that stuff Changed. My. Life. I was in the same situation as you, too scared to eat because I didn't want to add to the build up and make things worse. It also comes in sachet form which you mix with water and drink, and somehow it works through everything that's backed up and eases it out (tmi).
But I literally cried with relief once it started to work, so you really must go to the GP.
And then once it's fixed stay on top of it, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruit, veg and fibre and keep kids out the bathroom!

winterkills · 23/02/2014 21:39

How horrible for you, I remember that 'broken glass' torment so well.Sad I agree with the others that you really need to see your GP but I also understand your reluctance, I was just the same.

Movicol and Senokot didn't work for me at all and Anusol and Germoloids etc didn't seem to help much either. In the end I got it under control with Epsom Salts - a very old-school remedy but really works well, you can vary the amount you take depending on your needs and it's really cheap! It made me 'loose' enough so that there was no need for any straining at all and over time the fissures and piles began to heal. I also used vaseline before pooing to protect the fissures so reduce stinging and Sudocreme immediately after to soothe and heal.

singleandfabulous · 23/02/2014 21:41

Please go to your GP and get a referal to a colorectal surgeon OP. They really have seen it all. I had internal and external piles plus a rectocel, all sorted through two lots of surgery. bloody painful afterwards but all better within two weeks. Best way to poo is to squat on the floor and put your two fingers of your right hand inside your vagina and press them down to support the rectal wall. Breath as you did during labour. Afterwards, use Proctofoam H. bloody marvelous stuff. Get it seen to OP. really, it's not embarassing.

jen2014 · 23/02/2014 21:41

Oh and when I went to the GP he (of course, the young rather fit doctor with a motorbike helmet under his desk) didn't even examine me. I was 37 weeks pregnant, described my symptoms and he took it at face value before prescribing the laxatives. So they may not even look at you until they've tried the obvious solutions.

Bulldozers · 23/02/2014 22:28

Glad you managed to go. Yes pelvic floor exercises, done properly and regularly will help.

Yes, different severities and also symptoms. I have a rectum and bladder prolapse and have continence issues. If anything my bladder can often get over full before I realise I need to go for a wee.

deakymom · 23/02/2014 22:33

distraction works for me (along with the creams etc) i put cream on eat fruit drink water everything im supposed to do than announce im going to the loo DO NOT DISTURB ME pack my ds a footstool and a book (just in case) pull my cheeks apart a little (if i flinch its worse) and sit there waiting and distracting

bloody awful isnt it Sad

frogslegs35 · 23/02/2014 23:06

I don't mean to get so graphic but if it helps you, what the hell - How long are you leaving the glycerol suppository for?
I used to suffer bad constipation after being on morphine long term. It caused me many problems with my bum and I used to cry at the thought of going.
Anyway - leave the suppository in for as long as possible after pushing it up there as far as you can, literally wait until you feel you're going to explode.
I found lying on the bed on my tummy with a book and a cuppa helped me fight the urge, I know it's uncomfortable but kind of do squeezes upwards too.
It does liquify things very well.
I also swear by Lactulose for long term prevention.
Good luck, I hope you find some relief very soon, I really feel so sorry for you. Xx

chocolatemademefat · 23/02/2014 23:06

Put your feet up on a footstool or a box and lean back on the toilet seat - it helps a bit. I had terrible constipation after a lot of surgery and was taking iron tablets so had great difficulty going. District Nurse recommended to change of position and it helped. I feel your pain. (sad)

BocaDeTrucha · 23/02/2014 23:21

As someone who has just been diagnosed with a retrocele 5 months pp I know exactly how you feel. I also had an anal fissure several years ago which I had operated on and the pain and bleeding from that disappeared immediately.

The feeling of needing to pass what feels like a grapefruit out of your bum is a terrifying one and straining so much but not getting anywhere, even when you know it's all there, but just won't come out is the worst feeling. If you are getting the bulging feeling in your perineum then it sounds very much like a retrocele.

I know I don't drink enough water so am consciously trying to drink more. I eat several prunes and dried apricots every day and have cut out chocolate. A teaspoonful of linseeds every morning with a glass of water keep things moving nicely too.

Don't think twice about having the doctor looking at your bum. I always think he /she must have to look at the shriveled piles of some dirty, old fat blokes so the bum of a young woman can only be easier to deal with. A bum is a bum s far as they're concerned.... All part of the job.

Anyway, the surgeon who operated on my fissures just happened to turn up at the school where I was working in the office to enrol his daughter... Talk about embarrassing when I was thinking "he's had his fingers up my bum!!"

BocaDeTrucha · 23/02/2014 23:22

Don't know why I keep writing retrocele when I mean rectocele!!!

I forgot about that Choco
Really good advice as it seems to take the pressure off.

Jollychops · 23/02/2014 23:58

I also agree with Movicol, but try and get a prescription as its £12.00 for a box of 30! I went into Boots the other day to buy some as was running low, when they said how much it cost I phoned my G.P for a repeat prescription instead. They give me 60 sachets per prescription. I take one every second day as a maintenance dose. When my fissure was at its worst and I couldn't sit down for hours I read online to lubricate your anus with Vaseline to help reduce the tearing. I also had the gtn cream but was only allowed it for 2 weeks, I think the movicol has been most useful. I truly sympathise with you op!

JustLetMeSleep · 24/02/2014 07:38

I'm also having similar. Really horrible. I've found having my shower before going and sitting in warm water for a bit, then liberal amounts of vaseline and wiping with baby wipes after is helping. Plus all the fibre, loads of water etc. Are you bfing? I think that contributes to my problem. Also haven't been to GP as am fed up with having to show my bits to people. Ugh.

Aboyandabunny · 24/02/2014 07:52

Anusol hc has the steroid hydrocortisone in it. You can buy it over the counter. It was much more effective than ordinary anusol.

DVDplayer · 24/02/2014 09:21

Thanks everyone for replying. I never realised so many other people have this problem too. I really sympathise with you all.

I'm feeling much better this morning. Last night I ended up eating 2 large bowls of Cheerios and 3 glasses of tropical juice and some lactulose. This morning I had a fairly painless bowel movement.

I'm reading all these stories about movicol and might phone the doctor today. I still have my maternity exemption certificate so might as well put it to use. I know I don't have these fissures all the time; they come and go over a few weeks if I get constipated. The bulging perenium is worrying me, I've been doing pelvic floors all night.

JustLetMeSleep yes I am breastfeeding exclusively. I was thinking this last night. Doesn't matter how much water I drink its getting used within minutes by my body. Maybe I should start drinking much much more.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 24/02/2014 09:39

OP, I have a slight rectocele (I think) and have had awful anal fissures in the past. Worst pain, just so awful, I really sympathise.

The GTN cream for fissures doesn't just numb you, it is designed to stop your bowel twisting itself up ...this is what causes the pain but also stops the bowel from being able to heal. Get the cream! It works!

And avoiding constipation is soo important. Lactulose over the counter will do until you see a GP. I have ended up stopping eating wheat as I think that causes my co stipation, and I know I'm not alone.

Thanks Thanks Thanks for you.
