To think these parents have lost their minds and wonder If SS could be involved?

DM Link

I will try to find another link but gist of the story is these parents are supporting their 16 year old daughter in her choice to move to Turkey to live with and marry a 21 year old Turkish barman who she started a relationship with on the family holiday.

To me it just seems a madness and I wonder if there's a case for involvement by outside agencies. I think they are not just allowing but helping their child to put herself in such a vulnerable situation.

The Uk in 1950 would have been a much easier place for a young woman with a poor education to find employment than today is.

Having low aspirations for your child is not a crime that needs SS involvement, it's just a different way of parenting

Fail and Mirror-bastions of journalist propriety.

the parents don't sound terribly bright
but that could be said of many parents
I expect they are just relieved that she seems happy
she must have had a very hard time with leaving school and college because of the bullying
did is 17 an many of her friends have issues such as self harming eating disorders and one has even been sectioned
I think you shouldn't judge other peoples lives by your own
not everyone is the same
I wouldn't me happy if this was dd but maybe they are just happy she is alive and happy

My dd dropped out of secondary due to anxiety disorder. And I'd be fucking terrified if she went off and put herself in a situation where she was totally dependent on the goodwills of IL's she was not even able to communicate with. I could so easily see ways in which that would be worse than the prospects of unemployment in the UK.

But agree with Fanjo that the whole story sounds fishy anyway.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 23/02/2014 15:52

I actually think the story probably is reasonably accurate.

Not because I believe the newspapers but because of the content. If the DM were going to make something up it would be along the lines of

"Evil Turkish waiter seduced our darling baby and now is forcing her to marry him so he can get a passport, come to the UK, get £££££ in benefits and jump the list for council houses over hard working British families."

mrsjay · 23/02/2014 15:55

well I think the mother is bonkers for allowing this I cant see what she is thinking but permission she has given , I live in a country where at 16 you don't need parental permission to marry so dd could go off and happily marry her boy friend tomorrow if she wanted

mrsjay · 23/02/2014 15:57

the dd had this on her facebook think it was on huffington post or something so not just the DM reporting it

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 23/02/2014 17:22

Didn't say accuracy was questionable, but is it really news? Take a break fodder. Very sad, but news?

mrsjay · 23/02/2014 18:46

it is one of those public interest stories it has probably been sold to take a break or chat magazines as well Hmm
