I say naff knobs, dd2 says they are rock and roll. Music great. Speech just rather pathetic and rude to me.

I think they are one of the best bands ever. However they think they are too cool for school a smile at the Brits would not have gone amiss.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 19/02/2014 23:32

they're amazing.

goingmadinthecountry · 19/02/2014 23:51

Ok, amazing recordings. Is it ok to be that pathetic at the Brits?

OP posts:
VampyreofTimeandMemory · 19/02/2014 23:52

ah I didn't see it tbh, some bands are like this but mostly, i'm only interested in the music.

squoosh · 19/02/2014 23:53

We gave them a full appraisal on the Brits thread. Everyone on the Brits was a knob or a bore.

AnyFuckerHQ · 19/02/2014 23:54

dicks

nobody is that good at stringing a few chords together

what a petulant young man that lead singer was, worse than a 2yo throwing his dummy on the floor

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 20/02/2014 00:03

Oh thank god, that's exactly what I said but dh said they were great. Arrogant idiots. Yes rock 'n' roll will be around forever but you might not be.

papalazaru · 20/02/2014 00:06

Wankers. And most of the songs on the last CD all sound too samey.

IHaveSeenMyHat · 20/02/2014 00:06

Alex Turner is SUCH a bellend. He used to be... normal and then he got a quiff and started using an American accent on stage. Cringeworthy.

bringbacksideburns · 20/02/2014 00:14

It's happened before and will continue to in the Music industry.

The Stones used to flick ash on the heads of industry moguls. Years later Liam Gallagher did it to them.

I remember really popular bands like Duran Duran going through a phase of this on shows, when they get to that very successful stage where they think they can walk on water because they are surrounded by yes men who tell them they are wonderful. They end up looking like prize knobs when they are trying to look like cool, seen it all before, cynics.

In twenty years time Alex Turner will be playing the piano with hair dye on like Macca.

AnyFuckerHQ · 20/02/2014 00:16

yup, and "starring" on celeb BB, jungle etc

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 20/02/2014 00:17

In twenty years time Alex Turner will be playing the piano with hair dye on like Macca.

Yes. He so will.

Misfitless · 20/02/2014 00:18

Me and DH thought Alex Turner was being a total knob, too. Wasn't watching as I was busy mumsnetting - it was on in the background though, and I heard them!

I remember Bono going through still is as far as I know of thinking he was God. He used to be real, too. Shame!

DIddled · 20/02/2014 00:19

A dick- that is all!

Joules68 · 20/02/2014 11:45

Was he trying to be 'controversial'? it actually came across as if he was trying too hard

His fellow band mates looked embarrassed
Cringey

Joolsy · 20/02/2014 12:13

But he recently did an interview with Susanna Reid on Breakfast and they were flirting with each other, he wasn't so cool then, infact he came across as pretty nice!

squoosh · 20/02/2014 12:16

He wouldn't be the first nice rock star to turn into a wanker. Maybe something to do with the refreshments on offer.

Nancy66 · 20/02/2014 12:17

I suspect they are forced to attend by their record company. Even so, they've won an award - not contracted herpes. Be a bit more fucking gracious.

I think their music is ok but the whole super-cool, working-class, northern, rock n roll shtick is a bit tiresome

shadylane · 20/02/2014 12:21

They've never claimed to e working class. I think they are brilliant and maybe they just hate award ceremonies. Try are not starry, stay out of the press, live in modest houses etc. so they don't suck up at a shitty award ceremony?! They are very nice and quite shy.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 20/02/2014 12:45

I think they rock. I think not turning up would have been way ruder. When they started out their music was about rl-they've managed to stay interesting despite their wealth and popularity. They are very guarded about their private lives and that's ok and part of their enduring success IMO.

That said, I do like a good old gushy acceptance speech and they were markedly... short in that dept!!!

SaucyJack · 20/02/2014 13:03

I think he's a lovely young man with a keen interest in world issues particularly the economy of Columbia

ExcuseTypos · 20/02/2014 13:07

The way he moves when he's singing, really creeps me out.

I didn't see the Brits, what did they say?

ExcuseTypos · 20/02/2014 13:10

Shock I've just realised that they are the same group who did "I bet you look good on the dance floor".

That's sad if they've turned into knobs.

Lottapianos · 20/02/2014 13:11

I think he's a great frontman, really charismatic. Didn't see the Brits as I'm deathly allergic to James Corden so missed out on the shenanigans.

'Even so, they've won an award - not contracted herpes. Be a bit more fucking gracious'

Grin
SauceForTheGander · 20/02/2014 13:12

I love so many if their songs. Not that much modern stuff gets through to me now as I'm stuck on Absolute 00 and think I'm right on listening to stuff from 10 years ago. But the Artic Monkeys still impress me - but what dickish behaviour.

Damn him for making me feel 100 years old as I felt like I'd seen it all before and it was just soooooooo juvenile.

Spell in rehab coming up perhaps?
