To be completely freaked out that we've not had a winter

Seriously, I'm weirded out.

2 very light frosts the whole winter. Not cold enough to put the heating on hardly.

I don't remember a winter like this in 40 years.

Yes, the news stories are all about the terrible floods but I've heard nothing to explain why there's been no wintry weather.

I also agree with the pre-2009 I only remeber one winter in Edinburgh with snow up until 2010 where the 1st bad winter hit I think ,the weather is'nt predictable as such so it's not necessarily a disaster waiting to happen just because we haven't had snow.

quaginty · 19/02/2014 22:48

same!

Caitlin17 · 19/02/2014 22:48

We have loads of snowdrops in the garden and I think daffodils (not sure was very dark tonight when I was out)

Dillydollydaydream · 19/02/2014 22:51

Haven't even had to dig out scarf or gloves yet. Today it was like spring, went out in a short sleeved top and cardi.
And there's daffodils sprouting up everywhere!

NotTwit · 19/02/2014 22:56

I'm getting hay fever symptoms already. Sad

heating has hardly been on at all this year

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 19/02/2014 23:42

Yanbu. I suspect it means that we won't have a good summer this year either. It'll just be cool, wet and not BBQ friendly.

HesterShaw · 19/02/2014 23:48

If you remember, in the 80 s there were a series of really mild winters. They were talking about no more skiing in Scotland ever again, and Alpine skiing being a thing of the past within 20 years.

It has been this mild before. And I do believe they've had tons of the white stuff recently in the Scottish resorts.

PatrickStarisabadbellend · 20/02/2014 00:42

I have roses growing and get this... tomatoes on my plants from last summer. Wtf?

QueenStromba · 20/02/2014 00:45

I've only put on a coat this year when I've been dressed up so it would be strange to wear a jumper and have gone to Sainsbury's a few times without even a jumper on. As someone who doesn't like the heat I've loved this winter because it's not stupidly hot in shops etc.

Littledidsheknow · 20/02/2014 00:51

Never got around to buying my 4 YO new hat, gloves and scarf this winter, but then she's never really needed them. I have a childish disappointment at the lack of snow this year, but a decidedly adult concern about the changing nature of winters. I don't think I have actually felt cold this winter at all!

MoominMammasHandbag · 20/02/2014 00:59

Fanny yes! I left my summer geraniums in their pots. Not only have they survived the winter but they are covered in buds. We are in the north west by the way.

SamHamwidge · 20/02/2014 01:06

Yanbu, its weird. As much as I hate winter, there needs to be a proper cold and proper hot season to keep things 'right'.

In fact I might be talking rubbish but in my experience the milder the winter, the cooler the summer (to keep the average temperature the same over the year as a whole maybe?) so I don't think anyone should get their hopes up for a blistering hot summer.

FrostedButts · 20/02/2014 01:20

I am on the south coast. Can remember a couple of very heavy winters - 95 or 96 was very heavy snow, also 2005/6 and 2009. Very mild this year, not had the heating on once whereas last winter it was on Dec-April

CheesyBadger · 20/02/2014 01:20

Very pleased to see this thread, was finding it all very odd. I still think the snow is yet to come

I wish you had posted Tuesday; we had 18" of snow in our yard. I'd have happily sent you some. It was 50 F today, and is supposed to be 66 F tomorrow. We've had days that were -30* F this winter. It's been crazy here.

Monty27 · 20/02/2014 01:59

I've got crocuses growing on the very swamped and uncut lawn :)

The Daffs are coming up. But then a neighbour's tree came down a couple of months ago in the storms, so now I have sun in the back again :) I haven't seen a flake of snow, the temperature has been mild, I love it and I think I've cleared frost off the car's screen about twice all winter and that's in the shade out the front :)

Bring it on Spring, bring it on.

I agree, the last 2/3 winters have been awful, so I'm just enjoying what we have this year so far.... (SE London) :)

3lovelykids · 20/02/2014 02:02

I still have 2 pots on my patio with bedding plants in Blush

Coumarin · 20/02/2014 07:42

I hadn't thought about it until this thread bit yes it is weird and oddly unnerving. It's cold, windy and very wet but more like late Autumn than Winter.

I understand why this would be a good thing for a lot if people but personally I miss it.

DarlingGrace · 20/02/2014 07:45

I still have summer flowers out (lobelia) in my baskets that hasn't died off - its been blooming all through. It has been very mild this year, but the cold snap often doesn't arrive until February/March. I'm probably older than you by a fair margin and I seriously do not remember snow when growing up. It's only been in recent years we've had it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/02/2014 08:06

I thought some of you might be interested in a summary of notable UK weather events

here which shows that snow isn't a recent invention for England but rather an occasional thing amongst what is a very varying climate.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/02/2014 08:08

1910s and 20s were notably snowy!
