'I'm having a Facebook cull'

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 18/02/2014 14:44

Yeah I know, another fb one, but I'm avoiding cleaning the bathroom...

Can anyone explain to me why people need to announce they're having a fb friends cull?

Followed by 'If you don't want to be deleted then reply here'

Or

'If I don't talk to you then you're getting deleted'.

Why the need to announce it? Just do it. Is it to prove to yourself that you've actually got loads of friends and everyone must love you? Does anyone else think it's attention seeking and needy?

The next time one of my fb friends announces this WIBU to tell them 'don't worry I'll delete you first' or 'bye then'.

Right, back to cleaning.

I had a friend who used to do real life friend culls before FB was invented. Complete with telling those who were about to be culled. Makes the FB friend culling seasons look positively humane.

Ev1lEdna · 18/02/2014 15:29

I never announce. I'm like a silent assassin Grin

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 18/02/2014 15:31

I do have a friend who I often consider deleting but she makes my news feed quite entertaining with her dramas. Although why she needs to share details of her sex life I don't know and I swear her kids are never at school.

I clicked 'not now' on a friend request about three years ago from an ex needy friend. I've never done anything about it!

My fb favorite is one of the school run mums, who updates us with each advancement in her Dc's reading level.

As I said I wish I had the balls to cull.

hermionepotter · 18/02/2014 15:35

YANBU, just dreadfully bad manners IMO. Don't be friends with them in the first place

sadbodyblue · 18/02/2014 15:42

chipped keep upping her so your kid is always on a higher reading book. bribe the teacher. it's worth it!

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 18/02/2014 15:44

I have never responded. I have never been culled. It's soooo sad

SouthernComforts · 18/02/2014 15:45

I saw one that made me laugh recently

"Just had a huge clear out. If you can see this status - congratulations, you're probably not a cunt."

Anonymai · 18/02/2014 15:46

They do it for the same reason anyone does anything on facebook. Attention. Neediness.

Bellini81 · 18/02/2014 15:47

This is why I don't have facebook..

ReadyToPopAndFresh · 18/02/2014 15:49

has a good old clean up of my Facebook 'friends' a while back. I decided there waa no point having people on there I spoke to on the phone or saw regularly. You'd be amazed how many 'Everything ok? Have I upset you?' texts I got from grown adults over the age of 30, two of whom I'd had lovely phone conversations with the previous day. Very odd!

natwebb79 tbf, I'd find that quite confusing too unless you explained.. as most people want the people whose lives they are interested in hearing about on their FB! Also it's just another way of keeping up with people. IT would be like blocking a good friend's emails or phone calls.

Chippednailvarnish · 18/02/2014 15:51

sad I considered it, but then all the other Mums will think I'm also a sad bitch Grin

RedFocus · 18/02/2014 15:55

I did a cull once and deleted every single fucker on my friends list! Wink
Deactivated my account years ago because of all that shit. Don't miss it because I found MN Grin

Chippednailvarnish · 18/02/2014 15:56

In my defence I only have Fb for my foreign relatives.

Animation · 18/02/2014 15:57

Would love to delete my whole fb account but have no idea how you make it disappear.

usuallyright · 18/02/2014 16:01

I think its incredibly bad manners to delete someone. It takes less time to hide their updates so you never hear from them on Facebook. Unnecessary to defriend. Just attention seeking.

littledrummergirl · 18/02/2014 16:23

Ive only defriended one person. They kept posting about their "little princess" in a way that expected everyone to continually comment about how wonderful she was. I have a dd who I think is the most amazing dd in the world ever I am not going to tell anyone else this about their dd anymore than I expect them to tell me this about mine.-it was driving me mad. This was after an update on every little detail through her pregnancy.
Anyone would think she was the only person ever to have a dd.

This type of announcement is reserved for numb skulls.

falulahthecat · 18/02/2014 16:34

Someone I went to school with and was a bit of a dickhead did a status saying "If you can read this then you've survived the facebook cull, and I actually like you, so congratulations!" < They weren't being sarcastic.

I replied with "Ooooh thank you so much, I'm SO pleased! bows down to greatness"

Then unfriended her.

I also had to unfriend someone who did CONSISTENT "Well me and DC don't need you in our lives anyway, so sick of being let down" "Can't wait to go out tonight with REAL friends that actually give a sh*t" "Why are ALL men such dickheads!!" Accompanied by multiple photos of her pouting fishily at the camera like a 14 year old.
It occurred to me I'd probably avoid her in the street at this point so figured there was no point staying 'friends' on fb.

It's a funny old place.

Farrowandbawl · 18/02/2014 17:47

To the PP who asked how to delete FB, you have to google it. It'll still take you two weeks and that's IF the way you delete hasn't changed.

I did it and haven't missed it one bit.

Thanks for the link ReadyTo Pop

Will give it a go - but expect you're right Farrowandbaul

sicily1921 · 18/02/2014 18:48

Much as I hate cleaning the bathroom Pobble it is preferable to FB, for me ( know a lot of people love it, each to their own)

BuggarMeGently · 18/02/2014 19:15

Or the "Deactivating my account and leaving...goidbye facebook"....erm...bye then!
