To think calling the group 'Raggamuffins' is wrong?

A local class aimed at children under 5 has the name 'Raggamuffins'. I don't know IABU or whether I am over reacting and other people are not bothered?

You could post it here, Penguin

Pooka · 05/02/2014 18:10

And write to little tykes while you're at it too. :)

TamerB · 05/02/2014 18:11

I would forget it and post it on here.

DanceParty · 05/02/2014 18:12

No, No - don't destroy the email. Please send it. I'd love to know if they have this emoticon ..........Confused or this one........Hmm

SlightlyDampWellies · 05/02/2014 18:15

Oh good, I needed a chuckle. And hats off Op for being so prepared to be wrong. :)

Please post on here.

NowRising · 05/02/2014 18:19

One of our local childcare centers has groups called 'rogues' & 'scoundrels'

waterlego6064 · 05/02/2014 18:19

I call my children urchins sometimes. Is that wrong?

Bowlersarm · 05/02/2014 18:24

God, I still call my teens ragamuffins when they look scruffy. I had absolutely no idea it was possibly a no-no (I thought it might be outdated and old fashioned though)

wetaugust · 05/02/2014 18:27

YABVU

Google 'Ragged schools' - schools for the poor in the C19th.

At this rate we'll soon only have a handful of words left that don't upset somebody or other. What then?

IneedAwittierNickname · 05/02/2014 18:32

I call my dc raggamuffins, which is silly because they are better dressed than I am!

Lottiedoubtie · 05/02/2014 18:38

It's an affectionate term for a dirty/scruffy child.

Culturally we've come so far from the Dickensian reality of hoards of poor children with no shoes that it's become a jokey term.

Nothing to be het up about OP, but please do post your email here Grin

Madeyemoodysmum · 05/02/2014 18:49

I'm always using the word. I quite like it.

MmeMorrible · 05/02/2014 18:51

Don't understand what's wrong with this. I use this as a term of endearment for the DCs...

It's not like the group is called LittleBuggers is it?

bodygoingsouth · 05/02/2014 18:54

what with this and the 'boiler engineer doing a poo in her toilet and taking photos' thread,( it's good read it,) I now feel that others are clearly pissed as farts on a school night.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/02/2014 19:17

Mme - I would have happily sent my dses to a nursery/class called Little Buggers!

Ledaire · 05/02/2014 19:20

It's not like it's called "Tiny Wankers", or "Musical Little Shits"

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 05/02/2014 19:20

To me "raggamuffins" are what my DCs are approximately 30 seconds after being dressed in clean clothes with freshly scrubbed faces and neatly brushed hair. Quite how they manage it is a mystery to me. I call them urchins more often than raggamuffins, mind you.

SavoyCabbage · 05/02/2014 19:30

I use it a lot too. It's a great word. I happily shout 'come on ragamuffins' across parks etc. perhaps the OP has witnessed this and thinks its a way of rounding up the ethnics.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 05/02/2014 19:31

Why do people always blame their hormones when people don't agree with them? Just admit you were wrong/silly/whatever.

NigellasGuest · 05/02/2014 19:33

a better name would be Fucking Bastards

MadameJosephine · 05/02/2014 19:35

There's a childminding service near me called 'little bees'. Always makes me chuckle

RunRabbit · 05/02/2014 19:39

Isn't it a type of cat? Hmm

Pascha · 05/02/2014 19:39

The boys get called ratbags and ragamuffins many times a day aged only 1 and 3, its cute (and true)
