Money-Supermarket Porn Outrage

SSWise · 04/02/2014 11:41

Is it just me or is anyone else a little angry Angry with Money-Supermarket for using the presenter of a Hardcore porn movie - Snoop Dogg (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snoop_Dogg%27s_Doggystyle) & massive sexist in their TV adverts.

What message does it send to children when a family brand like Money-Supermarket endorses people involved with a predatory industry that is already too much a part of mainstream culture.

I'm ashamed to say it (mainly as I sound like my mum), but I for one will not be using them from now on!

OP posts:

Ha ha-what cbeebies show could Snoop present? (my beebies knowledge ended with the Tweenies but Im sure you youngsters could come up with something amusing.)

WelshMaenad · 04/02/2014 23:12

Let's Play?

CatAmongThePigeons · 04/02/2014 23:14

Rhyme Rocket fo' sho'.

NettleTea · 04/02/2014 23:16

I think I'd quite like to see the Snoop doing CBeebies (tho not in the 'doing' sense the OP refers to)

LEMmingaround · 04/02/2014 23:21

Snoop dog made porn? Who knew??? See, all that is on my mind now is what it would have been called...

LEMmingaround · 04/02/2014 23:22

Id be more upset to learn justin fletcher was once in a film called mr rough and tumble gets it on.

Caitlin17 · 04/02/2014 23:55

I know who Snoop Dog is , I haven't the faintest idea what Money Supermarket is.

Custardo · 04/02/2014 23:58

snoopy doggy style is my guess at porn film name

I just thought he was a huge druggie

CuttedUpPear · 05/02/2014 00:01

OP you might have a more reasoned reception to your thread if you posted in Feminism.
People are more prepared to debate the point there.

Onesleeptillwembley · 05/02/2014 00:13

So all those kids would recognise him from a porn film? Honestly? Get a hobby.

themessyapron · 05/02/2014 00:26

I too am outraged and have already written to the PM!

Nah, only joking.

I don't get the porn/pimp thing with Snoop. He married his school sweetheart in his early twenties and they have kids and from what I saw on his reality show (don't judge me!) they seem like a nice sweet couple.

I think it's all playing to to the camera really, the pimp and hoe stuff.

And I thought the advert was quite funny! Saw it earlier this evening

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 05/02/2014 00:37

I remember when he first became famous. He was on The Word and they made a huge thing of him being a drug dealer.
TBH that makes me more annoyed than being a porn star.

steff13 · 05/02/2014 00:44

I didn't know he had hosted a porn film or what a porn film host is. I DID know that he prefers to go by Snoop Lion now. Wink

bunchoffives · 05/02/2014 00:45

Well I'm with you OP.

Anyone who makes porn, watches porn or condones porn is an ignorant selfish bastard as far as I am concerned. And the less we see of them and porn the better.

The porn industry not only objectifies and dehumanises people - those participating and viewing - but also exploit the many vulnerable people who are working in that industry. It's disgusting to me, one step away from prostitution, and anything that normalises porn further or encourages it to be accepted as part of mainstream culture particularly in media that children see is just irresponsible and morally bankrupt.

YANNNBU

BobaFetaCheese · 05/02/2014 00:45

Has he given up on Snoop Lion? Shame that.

I'll judge him more for Starsky & Hutch that Doggystyle...

Neverending2012 · 05/02/2014 00:57

Time to get out more... It's not like this is something that really matters is it...

Takingthemickey · 05/02/2014 13:32

Are you sure you have your facts right about Snoop and porn. Your 15 year old daughter saying it does not make it true.

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken · 05/02/2014 13:38

Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle is a mixed hardcore pornography and hip-hop music video featuring the music of rapper Snoop Dogg and presented by him. It was released in 2001. It was the first hardcore video ever listed on the Billboard music video sales chart.[1] Because of its huge success, it started a trend where rappers are put into the mainstream of the porn industry by hosting X-rated movies.[2][3] Many films of the genre followed, starring Necro, Mystikal, Too Short,[4] Ice-T and Yukmouth.[5] It also allowed Hustler to expand its boundaries by launching new subsidiaries for their recently formed fashion line and CD label. The scenes were shot at Snoop Dogg's house in Claremont, California. Snoop Dogg himself however, does not appear nude or perform any explicit acts.

GhostsInSnow · 05/02/2014 13:39

Taking, yep, its snoop doggs doggystyle wiki link

Waaay back in 2001. I think he's probably moved on a fair bit since then.

mayorquimby · 05/02/2014 13:54

Doggystyle remains one of the greatest rap albums released.
Pity his debut album was his only good one.

jojoanna · 06/02/2014 21:12

He was a director of a porn film. He was a professional pimp and he is also a certified football coach

MistressDeeCee · 07/02/2014 03:15

I quite like fancy Snoop. He's a lean mean machine...

I'd be concerned if he was advertising a product aimed at children but beyond that - no, not really. He's not a youngster himself, is he? So I don't think he'll resonate with children in any way

But for someone who's totally anti-porn I can see that it may be offensive to see him in ads. If all who'd been involved in porn at sometime in their lives were banned from tv tho, I have a mind many would get their marching orders. I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon.

fivefourtime · 07/02/2014 04:30

One of the kids in Outnumbered has a dad who directs porn in real life! Let's boycott Outnumbered!!!!! BOYCOTT

fivefourtime · 07/02/2014 04:31

It's not quite the same thing. However... I don't see why Moneysupermarket has to demonstrate moral probity of any sort. It's not a secondary school maths teacher or whatnot. It's an insurance website.

jojoanna · 07/02/2014 07:09

He's resurrecting his huggy bear role for the ad. I'm not sure he's relevant anymore anyway
